New Cash Register Numbers 24326 and 48652

In the new opening sequence we see two numbers, 24326 before Maggie is scanned, and 48652 afterward.

It is common knowledge that the 847.63 of the old sequence was the average annual cost of raising a baby in 1989, so my question is what do these new numbers mean. It is possible that it now costs 24,326$ per year but I can not find any figures to concur.

Perhaps this is futile to some of you, but I tend to care about the useless. Any thoughts? Research?

Well, you can start with the fact that 486.52 = 243.26 x 2.
I don't think it's a ZIP code; 24326 is Elk Creek, VA, while 48652 is Rhodes, MI.

(By the way - a dollar sign always goes before the number, not after.)

maybe they forgot about the whole "cost of raising a baby" thing and just put a random number

  6. #6

nah i dont think they would do that, it prob. has some significance
"what'd you get it(fruit basket) for?" - lisa
"pushing burns out of a third floor window" - homer
    "is he dead?" - lisa
"what do i look like? a doctor?" - homer

Al Jean is a math nerd. It must have some significance.

It surely has a reason but I don't think they'd revert back to the cost of raising a child joke if they're revamping the intro.

I am also curious as to what this could be

    Well, 24,326 = 29 cubed plus -4 cubed plus 1 cubed, but I don't think that's it...

Thank you very much for bringing to my attention that the second number is double the first, also, thank you for correcting me, people really like to be corrected.

well if they do then this is how your statement should have been typed

thank you very much for bringing that to my attention, people really like to be corrected.

notice how its straight to the point and makes sence to read

but getting back on topic, i did not like how the froze on the number so you could actually read it, instead of keeping it a mystery

Actually the decimal point is on the register:

So it's $243.26 and $486.52. I don't think the numbers themselves are particularly significant, more that the price doubles. Maybe it's implying that a baby will double your bills/outgoings?

Somehow I don't think he'll be winning any father of the year awards. That should be 'monthly'.

DHFEB - Could this mean something?

Perhaps it is the date they finished animating the new intro (04 2008 Feb)?

Play with the numbers corresponding to the letter of the alphabet. Perhaps not in the english alphabet?

In Greek it corresponds to (can't get symbol font to work): Delta, Theta, Zeta, Epsilon, Beta. But these are just random letters.

Let's also try Hebrew? Arabic? Cyrillic? Who knows, it could be the name of one of the characters? H O M E R?

I thought I had it the other day.

On a phone keypad, 48652 can spell "Hunka," which I thought might reference the start of Al Jean's EP days (Hunka Hunka Burns in Love).

Then I realized Scully was still showrunner on that episode and I wasted ten minutes of my life.

just for fun: if maggie is worth 243.26 then we can take that number from 847.63 (the amount on the register in the old opening). we then find out the groceries scanned before maggie in the old opening add up to 604.37.

also the similarity to the sequence of numbers from the show "Lost" is striking. Putting 243.26 backwards is the same as the last six on lost. 486.52 not so much but yet very close. do the lost guys go to the same math club as the simpsons guys?

    Maggie's satanic.

    24326... 2+4=6, 3x2=6, and there's just "6", so she's 666.

As for 48652, 4+(8X6)=52...which means nothing...

Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

Shouldn't have changed the opening sequence in the first place.

    Are they dates and times?

If you use the bellow numbers as days in the year you get

    236.6
Tuesday, August 25, 2009 in 1990 it is same date but Saturday
    14:24:00

    243.26
Tuesday, September 01, 2009 in 1990 it is same date but Saturday
    6:14:24

    486.52
Monday, February 16, 2009 in 1990 it is same date but Friday
    12:28:48

I also wonder if they will make it to their 486.52 episode????? Dunno I explored this avenue and I'm done trying now.
