Rate/Review American Dad: "Phantom of the Telethon"

Acclaimed by NHC members as one of the worst cartoons ever, American Dad is back for another episode.

Roger suggests Stan hold a telethon to raise funds after the CIA's budget cut, but when Stan takes all the credit for the idea, Roger tries to sabotage it.

I actually like this show more than The Simpsons now. It doesn't make me laugh as much or feel anything like the old/good Simpsons episodes would, but I'm always able to enjoy it from start to finish each week because the jokes that work are mildly clever and are dependable to induce a chuckle or smile. Of course some of them don't work, but those ones are not so irritating that they hinder my enjoyment of the episode significantly (like those on modern Simpsons or Family Guy). I liked this episode. It had a plot that was simple, original, and wrapped up logically at the end, and this character of Roger (who I thought I was annoying at first) is starting to become one of those characters that I can rely on to always bring the funny every week. Like that episode where he makes Steve think he's adopted (but not nearly as hilarious), I love watching him try to get revenge for being wronged by means that are way out of proportion in their extremity to what's been done to him.

What I like about American Dad is that there is at least some semblance of character development.
At the very least, the cast never act out of character (like the Simpsons).

Better than the static animation of Family Guy, too.

Anyway, as for the particular episode, I enjoyed it. The light parody was handled very well.

Acclaimed to be the worst? What? We just had a whole thread talking about why we DON'T think it's the worst anymore.

Anyway good episode. I love Roger.

This was an okay episode. It stayed focused on the main story and featured background cameos of a lot of characters, but nothing particularly memorable about it.

Last time I checked, at least among FOX's Sunday night line-up, it was Family Guy getting the most spite.

    3.0/5

And speaking of spite, following next Sunday's Simpsons episode, all of the four shows will be on hold until January 18.

Great ep. A few LOL lines. Loved Stan's method of trying to invent something...

"Paperclips... piper claps... popperclops! Clops that pop your cloppers!"

Also liked Stan's "machine," Roger's reaction to Stan's surprise that it was Roger after he removed the mask ("Of course it's... I mean, who did you think... what??"), and Stan's realization, "If only I'd paid attention to anything that's ever happened to me before."

    Good episode.

and IMO The Simpsons is the worst show on FOX's Sunday night Lineup now.

Excellent episode! I loved all of the cameo appearances by different characters and Roger wanting the family to know the truth about him. The funniest part was Roger trying to reenact Phantom of the Opera with Steve, and Steve didn't care and just walked away.

They censored it on Fox and on Netflix but I don't think it's censored on Adult Swim.

So a stand-out episode gets a 4/5? Jeez, why so harsh?

Anyway this is another gem, a highly original concept executed to perfection. Cameos from all the characters, Roger in peak form, interesting story-telling with the use of flashbacks, and almost every joke in the episode hits. Steve and "writing team" is especially hilarious. I love when Stan goes "prepare to meet your Mecca", and then it cuts to Steve and friends patting Toshi on the back. Also, "joke killer...he's a joke killer".
