Classic Era Tourney Round 4D: "Burns Verkaufen" vs "Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie"

"Verkaufen" is nearly perfect, encompassing great characterizations, atmosphere, expertly-crafted scenes, and really good gags. "Poochie" is pretty terrible, extremely forgettable and painfully unfunny, while failing at its attempt to be a sharp satire.

Ooh, this is a tough one. Neither are my big favorites, but I enjoy watching both of them. I'll go with "Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show" due to its featuring on one of the most biting satires, several good moments, and it kinda left me a lot of impression on the world of cartoon production ala 'The Front'.

Burns is only a good episode in my mind. but Poochie is just a mildly funny episode that shoulda been eliminated a loooong time ago.

I consider that both are equal in a quality level but The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show seems to me too much "self-conscious" in the final message (We can't criticize them because they are the reason of our pleasure). I prefer the first one

Prior to this poll, I had no idea Verkaufen was so loved. In my years on this board, I've hardly ever seen it mentioned.

I've always liked the episode, but never really loved it. I guess I should rewatch. But Poochie's my favorite of season 8--it's extremely memorable and funny, to the point where the show (and fans) still reference the episode.

I don't think Poochie is terrible at all but I've said why a couple of times now already so I'll just get to the point. While Poochie has an extremely sharp satiristic tooth on what it was making fun of Verkaufen really is a generally better episode. Granted if an episode like this were done now I don't think it would have been nearly as memorable, even if it were done exactly like this because the idea of Homer losing his job's been done a lot...regardless of how it's done. That's mostly irrelevant though I admit because fact is that it did come out then, and even despite all that it's still an all around good episode. I don't agree that it's perfect per say but it should take this.
