Rate/Review: Wall-E

well, I finally got round to seeing this at the weekend, and watching about five consecutive
trailers for godawful cgi movies, it struck me that pixar really are the only people making decent cgi films these days.I can barely think of one cgi film in the last 5 years or so which even came close to pixar's quality, which really makes me appreciate what they do.

Any, needless to say, the film was excellent, and possibly there finest yet.About the dvd, forgive my ignorance, but can someone explain to me exactly what is meant by a "Digital copy" of the film?

feckin awesome, surely this means a commentary will be somewhere on that 3-disc set. hopefully it won't be as big a let down as the Ratatouille dvd

Just hit me that i appreciate Nemo more. Still love Walle dont get me wrong, but upon rewatchin Nemo the other day I realized Walle doesnt quite top it.

I saw this and Dark Night over the holiday weekend and I was very underwhelmed with Wall-E. It was an hour thirty and felt like over two while Dark Night was the opposite,
Ran for two thirty but felt like 90 minutes. There where still some kids in the theater and at best I heard a little giggle from one girl, that was it, a lot of it felt like watching something educational, documentary style. i guess it might be like how Fantasia was "great" but boring as hell. Oh I voted 2, couldnt force myself to give it a 3.

I finally got to see this today. And I loved it.
The Wall-E/Eve relationship was fantastic. Wall-E trying to show Eve his treasures, standing out in the rain with her, the dancing scene and the ending... all great.

I don't know where I would rank it with the other Pixar movies, but it would definitely be in the top 5.

One of the most impossibly charming movies I've ever seen. Probably rank it right up next to the Incredibles... might even top it. Can't wait to see it again. It has stayed with me for days, and that's always a good sign.

Coupled with what is now my favorite Pixar short, too. What a movie experience!

Having read that it was the greatest Pixar movie to date I was expecting more. However, it was certainly cute and had a good storyline and was very funny in parts. It was the best directed Pixar movie I had seen, kudos to Andrew Stanton.

3/5. Not the best, that honour goes to Toy Story- the orginal and the best but thoroughly enjoyable all the same.

Yeah the movie was incredible, I can't really add anything else to the other positive reviews. It's the best movie I've seen this year, but I don't know if I'd watch it at the cinemas again unless I can get a session that doesn't have a bunch of screaming kids in it. I'm also hesitant to call it my favourite Pixar movie so soon but it may be in the future. 5/5

I'm surprised how few of the Australian crew have posted a review, since it's been out for a week now. Come on! This movie -- in a better world -- would be a contender for Best Picture, not just best Animation.

Really late with this, considering I saw it opening night, but this is my personal favorite Pixar film now, although I acknowledge it's an aquired taste for most.

The simplicity is why I liked it for the most part, but it was the kind of simplicity that told a somewhat larger story. I think it's a generally good movie too. Yeah you could say it was done before to an extent, and pixar films are a bit overexposed etc etc but....it was a good movie. Besides I feel like it was supposed to be an age old tale sort of thing, that was the point. I don't think it was the greatest movie of all time or something like that either, but it certainly doesn't deserve to be sold short as a generally good (or bad if you believe.) film just because of who made it...and what film type it is.

I liked the credits a lot and the short before it really was some of the better and more original slapstick I've seen in a long while.

Bumping because I got the special edition version on Blue Ray and I recommend it if you liked the film. It looks particularly beautiful, and the film itself is still pretty damn good I think. The whole film's just interesting but we've had like 9 pages to talk about the movie so about the extra stuff. The Presto short shown before is definitely on there, and the extra short made for the DVD is pretty fun too. Also some deleted scenes, pretty decent commentary, and some stuff about the sound and music score, that's all on the regular version.

If you do decide to get the special edition though, the second disk has some pretty cool extras. The biggest thing is this hour (maybe slightly longer) long documentary about Pixar's history. It's pretty interesting stuff, showing that they've hardly had it easy. It doesn't sugar coat a lot of stuff. And though you don't have to be one to enjoy it, if you're getting into animation or thinking about it I gotta say it's actually somewhat inspirational too, especially for traditional animation. Of course being best friends with Steve Jobs certainly helps.

There's some great behind the scenes stuff too though, really gets into the creative processes behind the movie. This film changed quite a bit, but I definitely think for the better even if the original plot for the second part of the film was a bit darker. There's a series of live action BnL shorts like the ones you saw in the film. In the context of the movie I find them mildy creepy but in a cool way. There's a few more deleted scenes, and some other misc things. Third disk has a digital copy of the film.

All and all I think it's one of their best DVDs. Or Blue Ray if you get that.

Holy crap the original Jello blob monarchy 2nd act was effing 80's-Don Bluth levels of darkness. Which would've been awesome, but not nearly as meaningful or satirical as the current one. Especially with the lame Planet of the Apes-esque reveal of "they're actually the devolved human race!!!"

I do have to comment that while the DVD (I really want to see it on Blu-Ray, apparently it's amazing) is a step up from Cars and Ratatouille's, it still doesn't deliver like the Monsters Inc., Incredibles and Toy Story re-releases. Those might possibly be some of the most awesomely-packed DVDs ever created...

Yeah that really caught me off guard too. Even if he was shooting a robot, just the way he does it is pretty frightening. Though it is pretty comforting to know that Pixar's willing to at least harbor that level of grit even if it doesn't come to pass.

But even though I'm usually all for adding edge and not beating around the bush so much, that's only when it works. It wouldn't have worked this time. A Sparticus parallel would have been just such a waste, instead we got something pretty different. So I really like the change. The story's got a pretty dark undercurrent as it is anyways.

The Axiom was the executive flagship of the fleet, but I wonder what happened to all the other ships that left Earth? From what I saw, many starships departed earth daily, are they left to float off forever in to time & space,.. their passengers becoming hopelessly, irreversibly blob like?
I'll bet The Axiom was the only one equipped with E.V.E. probes ...ensuring the earth would be exclusively repopulated by only the CEO class?

Judging from what I've read, I'm pretty sure this idea would appeal to Walt Disney
