This episode had a rare quality these days: fun. It was a little silly and it didn't have the most fantastic plot, but it was funny. It has a lot of visual gags (for once the montages were fantastic), and also these fun ideas that came out of nowhere, like Lisa's activist friends. The visuals added quite a bit, with some good character expression and nice colors. I also really liked the silly Casablanca reference towards the end. Mary was a nice enough character and I think the twist kinda made sense, but I hope this is the last time we see Bart almost getting married. Bart was pretty good but I think him showing a more jaded side here and there would have helped since the episode seemed a little childish and a little like a saturday morning cartoon because of the silly and kinda naive plot. Not the most memorable episode but one that certainly has some rewatchable quality to it. Homer was also ok for the most part ("Also, don't be a cow" "And, if necessary, the sweetest meat of all: human"), though I don't really know if I like these plans involving him getting into trouble. I mean, the family is saving a cow, but they are exposing the family father to a possible death? Sometimes I wish Homer acted more like another member of the family instead of being in these crazy escapades. The scenes were funny enough, though, the Laughter house gags was ok-ish. Loved the Pirates of Caribbean 3 gag. I did like the movie at the moment, but now that I remember it, it was really way too crazy and surreal compared to the previous ones and the epic moments were overdone and crappy.

If episodes with more ambitious plots were developed like this (with good jokes both visually and in the dialogue, and logical progression in the story) in a more regular basis then the quality of the show could improve quite a bit.

    4/5 overall.

Oh, I thought the Transform-O-Clowns or whatever a little silly, not a fan of that part, it seemed extremely elaborated, I prefer when parodies are shorter and simpler. Here it seems as if the writers were thinking a little too much about creating a really absurd show and the result is not really that clever or hilarious.

Hmmmm... while I'm really glad Season 19 is avoiding getting as bad as "Kiss Kiss Bang Bangalore" or "The Wettest Stories Ever Told", I'm not glad that they can't seem to make many episodes as good as "24 Minutes" or "Springfield Up".

Off the top of my head, Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind and Midnight Towboy have been great. This episode and every other this season remains average, bland and mediocre. Watchable episodes that are boring and not funny enough, but not so bad it has to be turned off (at least not for me)...

3/5 Again Make something better :/

I sorta loved it. It was kinda sweet at times, also. Love the Pirates of the Carribean = manure gag. The main reason I'm giving it such a high rating for a Season 19 episode is because, as Cartoonnetwork perfectly stated, it is fun, and I can't remember the last modern episode that was this fun. A-

This was a good episode. It had some good emotion in the scenes with Bart and the cow. There were some funny scnes, like the manure turning into Pirates Of The Caribbean DVDs, "We name our kids stuff", the 'Laughter House', and Lisa talking to Bart about vegetarianism. Not very many of the jokes fell flat either. A good episode. Near the top of season 19 in terms of quality.

    4/5

    rather good episode 4/5
"Look, Marge, you don't know what it's like. I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And i'm not out of order! You're out of order. The whole freaking system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth! Because when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it, Marge. It's Chinatown!" - Homer's rant.

even when the plot sounds really weird and my expectations were low,
the episode is actually not bad and has some really great and funny moments.
Still some wacky moments, but that's fun and makes it overall a good episode for me.

    Boy, that was bad.

The first act was the worst first act of any episode ever. Pirates of the Carribean gag was the only funny joke and for the most part I was just staring, wondering what the hell was going on.

Second act picked up a little but Bart marrying the girl ruined it.

Third act was average and predictable and Bart's last line about having a cow was pathetic.

2/5. A very genourous score for a horrible episode. Season 19 has been very dissapointing

This was quite enjoyable pretty much all the way through. I liked seeing Bart's sensitive side and was worried it would go down the Lisa the Vegetarian route when Lisa got involved but then came a nice twist with Mary. The Tress MacNeille reference was actually funny both times but the manure/Pirates of the Caribbean 3 thing stretched the original gag for too long and Homer punching Ned was awful. It got a bit too wacky when Homer was in the slaughterhouse but I'm glad Lou ended up being saved. Even though I knew it would make me cringe a little when I heard it, I was happy to hear Bart say he had a cow. 4/5

It was interesting to see an episode where Bart bonds with an animal, even if nobody in the audience really feels that he feels for the animal (the emotion didn't really work, but I could see the effort was put it). The strongest part of the episode were the random gags such as the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 DVDs being made from manure, the Laughterhouse/Slaughterhouse, etc. I would go as far as to say that the episode had some strong jokes but was weak on plot.

Reminiscent of Bart gets an elephant, this episode provided 20 minutes of solid and clever writing. There were plenty of fantastic jokes, and also a lot of emotions.

The gag with Trans-clown-o-morphs at the beginning wasn’t too entertaining. Homer and Bart heading to Shelbyville, with not actualy arriving there made me cringe, but their coversation in the car about wikipedia was hilarious. There was an interesting part with Bart sorting clothes and stuff, but manure turning into Pirates of the Caribbean 3 DVDs was too odd.

It gets much better from the moment Bart gets Lou, and the scenes with Lou and Bart bonding were excellent. Some funny jokes in the second act include Bart’s code name, ‘’Go Lou, you can do it!’’, and the sock spitting out spinach. I didn’t really like Lisa trying to turn Bart into a vegetarian, though.

Cletus has always been one of my favorite side characters from the show. I expected a lot from his appearance, and he didn’t dissapoint me at all. It was a great idea to send Lou to India, especialy because he will be treated like a God there, at least according to Apu. The scenes with Homer ending up at the slaughter house were fun, too.

Can't comment on it yet, but I can't say I have high hopes. Either it'll what I expect or I'll be pleasantly surprised.

meh, average. 3.5/5 rounded down to 3/5 for the poll.

The opening shot of the beautiful day was nice, as was trans-clown-amores.

I particularly enjoyed the background music whilst Bart bonded with the cow.

The spinach socks were adorable, especially when homer's spat out the spinach.

Also good was the Laughter house and Homer's following comment: "with the world in the shape that it's in, we could all use some comedy"

The show should not give people a reason to develop a skeptical demeanor and if all it took was one 'decent' joke to be a winner, then no TV show would ever be cancelled for poor ratings. Furthermore, I shouldn not lower my standards just to enjoy something as the people who say this are people who are of a simple, hive-mind--the kind who populate such filth as the last 9 years of "_____ Movies."

I seem to enjoy The Simpsons every time it's on the air. I don't care if the episode's writing isn't as clever as it was a few seasons ago! I'm just glad I can still watch new episodes and have a good time. You can't tell me that it wasn't funny, because the show is still funny, you probably have a horrid sense of humor.
C'mon! Have some standards! You're 'rant' is nothing more than "If you don't like it, get lost!" And if you truly BELIEVE that, then I don't think you ever cared at all.

And don't you dare say that people who enjoy a program freely without having to bash it all the bloody time aren't creative. I'd like to see you try and create an iconic show that has earned so much praise and millions of fans around the world.
    I don't accept dares, sorry.

I love this episode. I didn't think the plotwould be that great, but the way it was executed kept me very interested to see what was going to happen next. The jokes kept on firing at me from all directions. I was on the edge of my seat when I saw this episode. 5/5
You can do anything if you put your mind to it.

    Everything happens for a reason.

Just be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.

Don't worry about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.

I saw this one in a hotelroom of all places.
I guess my company was questioning why I wanted to watch a cartoon instead of continuing what we were busy doing. (no suggestions here, it could as well be a game of monopoly)

    So this is Groening's favorite?
Ok, they try to put some heart in it with Bart and the cow. Is it forced? Not really.
But it doesn't earn a place between the greater human-animal bonding moments from past episodes.
(thinking of some Bart/SLH interaction from the classic era here)

"I'll make sure Flanders doesn't bother us"

    "Ow! What was that for"

"Bart's in trouble and we don't need your stupid comments"

This episode is surprisingly funny. 3/5
