It's actually a pretty cool show considering it's "new nick" I'm personally hyped that M. Night Shamamalnaramdingdong is going to be making the live action trilogy.

M. Night Shamalan can't even keep the movies he wrote from screwing up

I finished Avatar (in...uh...January) and the show is great. The second season might very well be my favorite season from any cartoon. The third season is pretty disappointing, though, barring a few great episodes.
To be honest, i've basically forgotten about this thread...
Anyway, the first half of the third season wasn't the best, but the last half was very good and it had one of the best multi-parter finale i've ever seen in an modern animated show.
And yes, the second season was probably the best one out of the three.
I caught this once and got hooked. Need to netflix all of 'em soon.
This was/is (it's not that old...) a pretty epic series. At first I was was a little dismissive to it because despite how pretty it was, it had so many "wannabe anime" trying too hard scenes...which is something that kinda scares me away since so many shows did it for a while. I find it a bit cheap. A friend of mine though suggested I give it a chance a few more episodes in and it got a lot better pretty quick. And when you look at other American born tv animation on air around its time or now there's nothing else like it. I still really dig its ambition, and I'm glad it managed to actually finish its story.
You know for American TV programming in general even, having a series that's self contained right out-the-gate, with a distinct "end" to go towards rather than just designing it to keep on going until it runs its course is also pretty unique. It's a quality I see in a lot of british shows, and japanese animated series' but rarely in american ones. I think it's a way of doing a tv show that can be successful....I wish it'd be looked to a little more often rather than always going for things designed to be "endless until further notice", but what can you do.
A part of me wishes the ending could have been a little more dangerous, with actual war and some death. But I understand it's gotta keep it somewhat tame.
....still wish Sokka got to show what that boomerang can really do though...![]()
I wish they wouldn't make a live action film, and it's not just because 90% of the cast is gonna be white...or that it's directed by Mr. What-a-twist! It just feels like it undermines the fact it's animated a bit to me.

I saw Revenge of the Fallen in the dollar theatre(glad I didn't pay full price) and the teaser for the live action film was shown.
Aang's way too fat
The little hype I had is now gone. This could go the same way as Dragonball to a certain extent
I know it's a really dumb thing to bring up and it's been said enough, but I think the fact so little...if not none of the main cast in the live action version is east asian is still kind of a drag and not to mention a tad bizzare. I know you could rationalize that ethnicity shouldn't matter (especially since this is a fantasy world) and this is kind of a double standard...but it's still kind of weird that an Asia themed fantasy story has a predominantly white cast aside from Zuko, who's Indian it seems.(Chinese name btw) I mean...Aang maybe, but Katara and Sokka in the animation are obviously inspired by Inuit/Eskimo societies, and I always thought the whole war between the different elemental nations had shades of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. If largely European-fantasy themed Lord of the Rings were cast with a racially diverse main cast you know there'd be a shitstorm about it.
I dunno, whatever. I didn't really plan on seeing this regardless of the cast. It's just that the way casting and the director are going about this seems(and probably is.) totally detached.

I could never really get into it from what little I saw.
It had everything: brilliant storyline,action,etc.
But I just couldn't get into it.
Yeah I myself really didn't get into the show until about the 2nd season
and when I found out Mark Hamill was the voice of Fire Lord Ozai
Me too. But what a great show it was. JLU, Avatar, DeathNote...
The 00's gave us some very interesting animated series, with complex characters and intriguing plot developments.
Also... the rise of the Anti-Hero in animation. ( Zuko, Mello, even Lex Luthor who saves us all in the series finale of JLU)
Is there any more thoughts on the upcoming live-action movie now when a few trailers have been released?
I think the movie could go either way, but i'm actually worried that it might be quite lackluster and mediocre. A lot of the effects seem to be pretty good though and that's a plus.
For instance, the trailers make Aang seem way too serious and mature when he should be immature and irresponsible (seeing as this is the start of his journey) which is most likely my main concern so far.

saw the trailer before Iron Man 2, looked kind of unimpressive, although I've never seen the series
I'm Krusty, who are you? by NoHomers.net
Backdoor Sluts 9 makes Crotch Capers 3 look like Naughty Nurses 2
there's just no way it will be good
MAYBE...MAYBE if "M Night" didn't write the script, but he did. He is humorless and absolutely awful at dialogue
The trailers make it look all "mature" and bleak and...dour.
Really concerned if it bombs then people will disrespect the show without even knowing it.
I mean for gods sake he was thinking of leaving Momo out of the movie.
Oh wow, just read through this thread. Really depressing. What a brilliant, incredible, creative, hilarious show. I'm surprised everybody isn't nuts over it.
Also: ForbiddenDonut not sure if you ever checked Avatar out but you being a DCAU fan WOULD REALLY LOVE IT. And it kind of has the upper hand because it's a completely original story/characters/universe

I loved the series, it had humor and action, some serious stuff.
Sokka had to my favorite, he cracked me up.
I didn't mind the animation either cuz I do like anime.
The ending was pretty good.
I think the last trailer for the live action film looks great.
I'll probaly see it, to see if its any good.
Bart V.S Bob!
Bart fan!
The show IS amazing, it's a shame that it has to be associated with such a shitty channel when it's such a complex series. Also one of Mako's last great performances
to the shitty channel's credit, they ASKED and encouraged the creators to do a different and serialized epic series and supported them 100% the whole way
man the blue spirit is such a great episode
One of the best series of the last years.
I hope the first movie will have enough success to greenlight the two sequels.
Still, I have my doubts about putting the whole book 2-story in one movie.
Painful cuts will be made and we will lose a lot of memorable moments from the richly developed secondary cast.
No way they will be able to explore all the character's nuances in a condensed movie-version of the show.
Book 3 is like three movies for christ's sake
Well-chosen cast though.
Having Dev Patel as Zuko will be awesome.

Why did you post the same thing twice?
Anyhow; for me, it's too early to say if the cast is well chosen, it'll depend on how good they are at playing their respective roles; but that guy playing Zuko seems to be doing a good job judging by the trailers. I only wish the scar was a bit bigger and more visible, without it being too gruesome of course.
Nice movie poster, by the way. The Fire Nation ship armada at the bottom looks epic.

Ha, I did a copy-paste instead of a cut-paste.
And about Dev Patel, he won a lot of BAFTAs and not only for his role in Slumdog Millionaire.
I'm sure he is the right actor to handle the complexity of Zuko's character.
I don't know, I'd rather sit through the fire nation's stage version of Avatar than an M Night movie.
Hehe. That stage version always reminds me of that Batman-musical in Batman Beyond's "out of the past".

HA yeah I said the same thing as we watched it
