    Avatar: The Last Airbender

(Preferably no spoilers in the topic, but if you must put up spoilers; please use spoiler tags)

Does anyone else watch this anime-styled cartoon called "Avatar: The Last Airbender"?, I started watching it recently (in fact yesterday) and I have so far watched the first 14 episodes of the show; it looks great so far.

I heard of it before, and I never had seen it so I passed it off as another one of those stupid modern cartoons, but when I started watching it, I quickly came to love the storytelling and the animation, which is among the best i've seen in a modern animated show.

I Netflix the season DVDs when they release (which is the few episodes at a time BS). I left off somewhere at the end of season 3 after the stint in the earth kingdom.

But yes, fuckin' awesome show considering it's for the Nick audience.

Don't think it's anything to shout about.

It's not really fair to compare them though, since Avatar is an action show and Spongebob's a comedy. They have different objectives.

But Avatar is a pretty cool show. The animation is really great; I remember being wowed by the fight scene in "Jet". It also sets itself apart from other Nick shows, being an action cartoon with a strong continuing storyline. I don't keep up with the show regularly and whenever I do catch an episode, I'm lost. ^^; I guess that'd be one of my only complaints.

I know it's unfair, but I had to compare Avatar to another popular Nick show and Spongebob was the one that came into my mind, I don't hate that show though, i'm just not interested in it.

Here's the intro for episodes 1 and 2 for the ones of you who aren't familiar with Avatar:

Without sounding sarcastic: how come basically nobody around here likes this great show and wants to discuss it?

Maybe it has something to do with people passing "Avatar: The Last Airbender" off as just another lame cartoon for small kids, but I think it's wrong. It fits both young and old who likes fantasy adventure cartoons and it many times feels a lot grown up in it's themes. The show also strongly feels partly inspired by the great Studio Ghibli movies.

I would probably love 'Avatar' if I had seen more of it, but it comes on at inconvenient times for me and I don't usually have time to watch it. Also, I don't think I know enough about the show to jump in at any given point in the series. I do enjoy the animation and fight scenes from what I've seen on Youtube, but yeah, it may be yet another show I need to pick up if it's on DVD.

You should definitely try to get into the show by starting to watch the first episode and move forward, TFD; it's worth it even if you have to buy the DVD's that are available.

I tried watching it a few weeks ago, but lost interest after five minutes. It was the second part of a two part episode, so that may have factored in unhealthily. Anyway, I couldn't tell what was going on, nor did I care due to the dull animation. Sorry.

I might just do that. Right now I have a lot to buy though, including the rest of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection, the Venture Bros., the second season of the Boondocks, and maybe even Ren and Stimpy. I'll try to make space for this.

Well, I guess the show is not for everyone...

But I don't see how the animation is dull, i've seen lot's of dull animation in other modern cartoons but not in this one.

I don't see how it's better by comparison, but nonetheless, I'll probably end up giving it another try someday.

I tried watching a couple episodes. It's ok just not something I would go out of my way to watch.

I also don't get the dull animation complaint. The fight scenes are vibrant and incredibly well-done and in an action show like this, that's pretty much the crux of the visual excitement and it exceeds quite nicely.

Like I said, I only saw the first five minutes of an episode, so no action sequences. I'll give it an honest try again, eventually..

I personally like Avatar, and my favorites characters for now are Azula,Toph and Sokka and I still don't have a favourite episde And now I'm at season 2.I like it because the characters and the story are very originally and intereseting.Action, comedy, drama and some romance:an brilliant mixt to me.
The only thinks I don't like about:The imaginary couples (ex:Zuko&Katara,Aang&Toph)
In rest, good cartoon and posibilly the one of the best Nick's cartoon.

    Up,down,up,down,up,down...

Miss_Haruka, It's great to see that you really like Avatar too.

The show is easily the best cartoon Nickelodeon can offer IMO.

I agree with you to the fullest extent. I'm really looking forward to the rest of Book 3 and what's going to happen in it.

I must be honest and say this: If there's something I don't like about the Avatar fandom is those crazy fangirls seen over at those convention videos over at YouTube, who all continously scream and squeal on the top of their lungs as soon as Zuko or anyone else of the characters shows up on the screen during those new show clips. There is surely crazy fanboys too in those clips but i'm sure their hollering is nullified by the squealing and screaming.

    Wow, that was really mature.
Seriously, if you hate it so much then why are you posting here?

So now I have recently watched the series finale which consisted of the last four episodes strung together like a movie, and I must say that it was probably one of the best series finales i've ever seen in a animated show. At several parts I was thinking "this is quite much for a kid's cartoon" because the finale became rather serious and dark the further it progressed.

TFD, have you ever watched a full episode of Avatar or are you just waiting until you can get your hands on the DVD's.

i liked the series finale (especially Azula goin crazy) but seriously...the show has no balls! They should killed off the fire lord...not put him in jail. That was such a weak thing to do, unless they plan on havin a spinoff or somethin with Zuko lookin for his mom, then i could understand not killin' him

Okay Avatar watchers, what is your view on the Avatar fandom?

I am honestly not a fan of it, it's almost always about those crazy shippers who often whines about Zutara (the pairing of the characters Zuko and Katara) and other stuff that they aren't 101% satisfied with.

  27. #27

I hate how crazy girls get about Zuko(you know what i mean - )

Oh yes; and the sounds of screaming and squealing from those vids people filmed at those conventions when they showed new clips from the last part of Book 3 are still etched in my mind.
