Election + Comedy Central = The Daily Show
But a South Park-election-episode would be good to. I hope they'll kill Sarah Palin.
They'll probably do an election episode. South Park has taken on a lot of current events over the past several years, so I can't see them ignoring something major like this election (and this one in particular is a little different than the usual elections anyway).
I'm trying to remember an election episode they've done before 2004 though.
I'd rather see an election episode along the lines of Trapper Keeper (there's the election episode before 2004, TriforceBun, even if it's just a subplot), where you know exactly what they're talking about but on the surface, it's just a kidergarten class. Much funnier and it provided a better episode overall.
Douche and Turd was alright, as well, but sadly with the way the show's going I'm willing to bet this year's election episode isn't even going to try to make up a different situation and draw parallels with it - they're just going to go ahead and directly name Obama and McCain and Palin and Biden or whatever. And there'll probably be some completely dumbassed conspiracy plot to it as well.
I don't ever think South Park has done this with a premiere before, or any episode, even!
Uh...did you just say HOUR-LONG?!! Does this count as two of the seven, or just one, because I just creamed my pants at this potential awesomeness..."South Park" New Episodes

Last time around, "South Park" gave viewers AIDS, mice with penises attached, Canadians on strike, half of Britney Spears's head, porn-addicted adults and a way to "Cheese Your F-cking brains out!" Now that Cartman and Kyle are cured, Kenny is clean and Stan's dad is, um, satisfied, see what's in store for the boys of South Park in the much anticipated hour-long season premiere! Viewers won't want to miss a single new episode. COMEDY CENTRAL's not just sure of it: they're HIV positive.

Well that's certainly very interesting. Hopefully it does only count as one episode.
I think the election episode may be later down the line during the season, but I could be wrong.
If it IS the election episode, though, I kind of hope the hour-long premiere is more character-driven fun with some satirical elements (like Imaginationland) than a full-blown political satire.
For some reason I doubt they will be doing an election episode. It just kind of seems really obvious and played out at this point, unless they have some unique perspective on the matter.
I'm all for an election episode as long as it doesn't turn into a conspiracy ordeal that we all dread. I wasn't at all impressed by "Douche and Turd", but there's been a few election pieces over the past year or so, like "The Snuke" (which was very good) and the brief Hillary/Barack debate in "Britney's New Look", so it may be leading up to something.
Hour-long premiere intrigues me, although that would likely cut the season a week short if they cram two episodes into one night.
I also want them to do more with Kenny this half-season. "Major Boobage" was the best episode of the first half; it wasn't even close.
I actually thought "Major Boobage" was pretty weak. It wasn't a good parody because if you aren't familiar with the source material, there was nothing entertaining left really.
I hadn't seen the original source material ("Heavy Metal," was it?), and I thought the episode was still solid. Granted, I didn't like it as much as those that have seen it. It's probably the best of S12's first half, but then again, the latest bunch of episodes was fairly forgettable.
I'm hoping this season will pull a S11--weak first half, great second half. An hour-long episode has potential, because I've really enjoyed all five of South Park's multiple-part episodes.
If they're gonna do any kind of longer episode, I would prefer a movie. If they're set on multiparters, make it 2 max. Imaginationland stretched on way too much.
I'm assuming the first episode back will have some kind of dedication to Isaac Hayes at the end. Regardless of how Parker/Stone parted ways with him, they had great respect for Hayes and he was a massive part of the show.

I wonder if they would do something with Darth Chef.
And...it's not an hour long, apparently. From Comedy Central's schedule:
SPS forum members said that the press release changed its wording as well. Oh, well. An hour long would have been nice, but we could have been screwed over with only six weeks of SP instead...Wednesday Oct 08 2008

I don't want an election episode this season. I'm sure it's inevitable, and that's kind of why. South Park has gotten pretty predictable as of late, and it's getting kind of tiring. Yeah, stuff like Imaginationland or Go God Go have been really imaginative and unique, but most of the straight political/social satire episodes as of late have all more or less been the same thing: take an incredibly obvious parody, wrap it in an overblown conspiracy, and have lots of overdramatic dialogue and violence, while focusing on generic one-off characters rather than the boys.
I'm actually happy it's not going to be an hour-long show. I'm getting kind of tired of longer/multi-parter SP episodes, of which we've had such a greater influx over the past few seasons compared to before and it's just been... ug. They've been pretty good examples of yet more over-dramatization, and while not being completely terrible, I'm really missing simpler SP episodes as of late.
I sort of agree with Jakebert on an election episode, except I do hope that they have one in the very weak hope that they don't treat it the way he (and I) am/is expecting. Because then, it could turn out pretty good.
Why would the press release say it's an hour long? My prediction is that the first two episodes of the half-season will be a two-parter.
Well, it used to:
Apparently it now says "much anticipated". I hope you're wrong about the two-parter, as we've had enough of those. An hour-long seemed like a fresher idea instead of having the inevitable cliffhanger..."South Park" New Episodes

i guess we'll just have to wait two days to find out
dammit, two weeks.
I'm really curious to see if Matt and Trey can salvage this season. So far, it's their weakest yet, which is strange since S11 was great.
Because Isaac's dead.

Which is even more reason not to do it.

Kyle and Stan are upset over a friend of theirs getting raped.
Definitely not what I was expecting and I'm trying to relate it to the title. Part of me thinks it's not meant to be taken at face value, but either way, I'm interested.
Any guesses? Butters? Kenny? Cartman?
WTF
But it's South Park, so... benefit of the doubt.
