This is a very good episode. Burns is evil, Homer tries to diet, Marge is an artist, etc. The Simpsons has had its fair share of guest stars, but Ringo Starr! That's quite impressive even for them. I like the comments in the gallery at the end. My favorite went something like "he's evil, but he'll die..."

Brush with Greatness was an average episode. The plot itself was good and a good idea to feature Burns and Marge instead of typically Burns and Homer ,what worked best was Marge trying to find Burns' inner beauty but noticing there wasn't any. Characterizations were pretty spot on in this episode Burns being an angry horrible old man worked for the plot ,Marge remained caring and Homer was nice to see as he tried to help Marge at the end of the episode realize she is talented whilst watching his weight in a good sub plot. Smithers was good in the episode showing loyalty and sticking to his character but other than that nothing else great the Mt Splashmore scene was not needed and wasted time it was lacking in the jokes department and didn't have much else to praise. Old Money - 3/5

Brush With Greatness - 4/5...great episode throughout. The first act was a sign of things to come for the show. There's no better way in the universe for Homer to have discovered that he's too fat.

This episode is jam packed with material, but it falls a bit short. A solid B.

The story is interesting and it's funny as well...what's not to like? I find it quite entertaining.

My top 30 episode. Two great plots, several memorable scenes, and Ringo Starr guest appearance was pleasant to see considering tthat I'm Beatles fan. Oh, and for me, it's understandable for Marge drawing Burns nude for his inner beauty.

    Lisa's Substitute

I used to think this episode was overrated, but upon rewatching it recently, I have realized that it's definitely not overrated; it deserves every plaudit it receives. The emotion is executed flawlessly, the plot was driven at a steady, progressive pace, everyone was perfectly in character, Mr. Bergstrom was a great character, the conflict between Homer and Lisa was relatable and not overdone, even the subplot was entertaining, the ending was one of the best in Simpsons history...it was just a beautiful episode. One of my all-time favorites. A+

it's a really good episode and i like it,
even when Lisa is not one of my favorite characters from the simpsons.
It has also an interesting view of her relationship with Homer.

This is an outstanding episode. While I'm not necessarily a fan of the more emotional episodes, I have to admit this is brilliant. I don't generally like Marge or Lisa centered episodes, but Lisa's character is great in this episode. Her interactions with Homer are stellar and Mr. Bergstrom's character is also done very well. The scene near the end where Lisa gets her note is touching and one of the more famous moments in the history of the show.

Stupidly amazing episode; hilarious and emotional, this episode manages to be better and brighter than 98% of other Simpsons episode. Outstanding and underappreciated. A+

Far and away one of the best episodes ever. It's probably the best Lisa episode as well. Lisa is a great character, and I'm a big fan of her characterization in season 2 especially. She's cynical, intelligent, but childish and at times, suffers in silence. The story in Lisa's Subsitute is simple and beautiful; she tries to find a role model in Mr.Bergstrom (voiced by the fantastic Dustin Hoffman), as she can't connect with Homer and wants a better father figure in her life. The conflict is down-to-earth and strikingly relatable. And the subplot is also entertaining and fun (More Asbestos!!).

The scene where Mr. Bergstrom gives Lisa the note, is one of the most powerful scenes in the series. It's a bittersweet reminder that she is who she is; Lisa Simpson, not Lisa Bergstrom. I think the episode's one of the best emotional episodes, because there's never a point where it becomes sappy. Lisa's Subsitute offers a great look at Lisa and Homer's relationship, and the scene in her bedroom shows us exactly how it is. Homer may not "get" Lisa at times, but he will always love her. The ending is very touching.

A great episode, probably the best Lisa episode in the show's history.

Kids, let me tell you about another so-called ``wicked'' guy. He had long hair and some wild ideas. He didn't always do what other people thought was right. And that man's name was...
I forget. But the point is... I forget that, too. Marge, you know what I'm talking about. He used to drive that blue car?

    The War of the Simpsons

Not a bad episode. This came out back when Homer and Marge almost getting divorced hadn't been done a million times. I never believed they were in trouble as the show would never work if they got divorced, but it was still good. I like near the end when Homer catches the fish and throws it back. The story back at the bait shop was reasonably amusing.

Not the greatest episode but easily one of the top 200 of all-time (maybe top 100, but I'm not going to figure that out).

For me also a good, solid episode with no big mistake in storytelling or something like that.
Has also some funny moments and seeing the Flanders as "perfect" couple in opposite to Homer and Marge is also entertaining for me to see.

The first act is classic...some of the most real moments of the series, but after that it's not nearly as inspired. Bart and Lisa taking advantage of Grampa is okay but kind of obvious, then the twist at the end is incredibly hard to buy and just weird. Marge and Homer on the marriage retreat is pretty much devoid of anything good or memorable. It's tough to grade...I'll just say this.

    First act - 5/5
    Rest - 1/5

Another fantastic season 2 episode. It has three distinct acts that are all extremely entertaining and well-written, and the ending was sweet without being overbearing. I also loved seeing the Flanderses at the marriage retreat with their worry over their minuscule problems, and it was a good balance with Ned drinking and partying in the first act. Just a classic episode and a very underrated one. A

It's a reasonably entertaining episode; the first act was a lot of fun in particular. The subplot, while a bit cliched, I thought was pretty amusing. The marriage retreat was slightly dull and Homer giving up General Sherman was predictable, though I did like the use of Rev. Lovejoy. It's probably one of the less memorable episodes, and it doesn't help that it's sandwiched between two awesome episodes. However, as I said, it's still fairly entertaining.

great episode, very fun and entertaining the whole way through. A
Bart: Lis, I don't get it...Why does Milhouse's happiness make me sad?
Lisa: Bart, you're worried you're losing Milhouse, and love is a selfish thing!
Bart: Shut up! I don't love Milhouse!
Lisa: Oh, really? The more you deny it, the more I know it's true!
Bart: Oh, yeah? Well, whenever you're mean, I'm a trampoline. So everything you said goes back and hits your ugly head.
Lisa: God, that was lame. Where did you get that?
Bart: From Milhouse! Oh, I love him so much!

This episode is extremely overrated apparently. Where did Homer's love of fishing even come from? Why did Marge just accept Homer after he'd been such an asshole, just because he threw the fish back? Come on, she should've at least said "well...ok..." or showed some kind of hesitation. There are almost zero laughs in the third act and a story that is really forced...yet it still gets A's? Much of it doesn't feel real or interesting at all and it's as lame as most Jean era marriage problem episodes. Just because it has that season 2 tone doesn't mean it should automatically get a great grade.

    Good subplot.

It is a middle of the pack episode, it had its moments but not a classic by any means.

It has some good material but it also has a lot of super-sitcommy junk that I don't particularly care about.

Three Men and a Comic Book

This is one of the least perfect episodes of season 2, but that definitely doesn't mean I dislike it. I thought the premise was simple, nostalgic, and utilized a lot of its abundant potential but I think the episode took a turn for the worst when Bart went to work for Mrs. Glick in the second act. That entire act was chiefly monotonous and not very funny, also slightly hindering the mostly brilliant third act by not offering it quite enough time to develop. The whole episode felt a bit disjointed, but there were several classic scenes (the tree house fights, the "Wonder Years" parody, et cetera), had a very unique, memorable tone and plot, and offered the delight of watching Bart, Milhouse, and Martin interact. Comic Book Guy also had quite a few great lines, and the ending of the episode was bittersweet and perfectly fitting. If the second act had shown Bart possibly working for more than one person and featured funnier, more entertaining gags during said work, this episode would likely garner an easy A, but instead, I give it a B+.

This episode isn't that great, but not too bad either. The boys are obsessed with a comic book which is true to their character so I'll give it credit for that. The end where the comic is destroyed and Marge comes in and tells them to play their tie up game inside is funny. Probably the best joke is Homer looking out the window to check on the boys and it's pouring rain and thundering and he says their fine. Overall, this is a slightly above average episode.

it#s only an average episode for me.
The story is a little bit too predictable in my opinion and this kind of story
is done 100 times before, one way or the other.
Some funny gags but nothing great.
