It is not an exceptional episode but not as bad as it is reputed to be sometimes. It has some good moments of humour and style so C+
"I motion to be disbarred, on the count of bringing that evidence against my own clients."

    "...you liked Rashōmon."
"That's not how I remember it."

Burninmaphone, what do you mean with your 'season/series' ranking? Is it rating episodes compared to the season and the series?

I've read that some don't like this episode at all, but i think that it's at least not so bad. For season one it's a good episode imo. Story is ok and has some funny moments even when these gags are rare. Overall i think it's an average episode.
Nothing special, but also not that bad.

I hate this episode, one of the worst ever. Maybe because I've seen it much too much. But I never really enjoyed it in the first place. It's quite possibly the most boring episode ever and is much too preachy. F

I'm not sure why everyone hates it to such an extreme degree. Sure, the ending was sappier and more unrealistic than what we usually like to see on the Simpsons, but it wasn't ridiculously horrible. I also don't know why people are saying that Homer was being a hateful jerkass character. He seemed pretty much in character to me. The scandal was blown out of proportion in an unrealistic fashion, but overall, I thought the episode was entertaining and pretty funny. B-

    The Crepes of Wrath

I think this is the first of numerous episodes where there was international travel. Bart misbehaved like he tends to, Homer didn't realize he was harboring a criminal, etc. Bart goes through some rough times but ends up learning French and becoming a bit of a hero which was kind of cool I guess. This episode is quite possibly my favorite of season 1. Then again, I rate everything too high. I'll give it an A for now, but I reserve the right to change that after reading some other opinions.

well, must admit i never really liked this episode too much.
Maybe because of the story and i think it lacks the funny moments.
In general there are only few episodes from season one i like and enjoy watching over and over again.
This is not one of them.

One of Season 1's best. It has an interesting plot and great jokes to boot.

Ugh. Horrible, horrible humour, even worse forced emotion and a subplot that fits more of Scully-ish than season one-ish. Utterly boring episode that I wouldn't want to watch again.

A very enjoyable episode especially the first act and Homer’s interaction with Adil.
Homer: “I’d get up but the boy crippled me”
    Principal Skinner: “I understand completely”

It is indeed one of the best episodes from Season 1 with an interesting story containing two really good plots. The beginning scene where Homer falls down the stairs and can't get up was a great scene, with Maggie fallling asleep beside him and the batteries of the Krusty doll wearing out being great touches. The "I'd like to get up but the boy crippled me" line is probaly my favorite line from the episode.

This is my favorite season 1 episode. It's very funny and I like the plot; albeit the wacky resolution to Bart's problem (Hey, I can suddenly speak French!) But I didn't really mind it; I actually really like the voice acting when he realizes he can speak it because it's such a smooth transition from English to French.
I wish we saw more of that spy kid; Adil. He was an interesting character. :silly:

    Krusty Gets Busted

This does a pretty good job introducing Sideshow Bob. The Simpsons children are loyal to Krusty and do a little detective work. For a season one episode it's pretty good.

Best episode of Season 1, showed Bart's loyalty to Krusty even during a tough time.

Kids, let me tell you about another so-called ``wicked'' guy. He had long hair and some wild ideas. He didn't always do what other people thought was right. And that man's name was...
I forget. But the point is... I forget that, too. Marge, you know what I'm talking about. He used to drive that blue car?

    Ralph: I Won! I Won!
Principal Skinner: No Ralph this means you're failing English
Ralph: Me fail English? That's unpossible.

Krusty the Clown, you're under arrest for armed robbery. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say, blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah.

    Oh okay, interesting record.

This episode is really a spectacular episode, especially for season one. It provides its humour, and is structured beautifully despite several flaws.

Good episode with a great Bart story but not as good as some other Sideshow Bob episodes.B-

Second best episode of the season (I missed the day Life on the Fast Lane was rated, damn it!) This episode, perhaps more than any other show this season, feels like it could have been in seasons 2 or 3.

I recently rewatched this and have to say that I don't understand all the hype surrounding it. It wasn't all that funny or interesting and actually bored me quite a bit. Of course, I do like the introduction of Sideshow Bob and his enmity with Bart, but most of the episode didn't do much for me. B-

We've already discussed this on MSN, but some of it probably is due to it being the first Bob episode, and being the one that started the series of episodes to come.

And I agree with what you said, too.

    Best Episode of Season 1

I'm surprised that some are giving it less than A- while giving Moaning Lisa more than A-. This episode has a killer plot with great twist/mystery and it introduced us the interesting characteristics of Krusty and his background. There were some great lines ("Gruesome twosomes") and I never really got bored watching this one... kind of unique for Season 1 episode for me.

Admittedly, I don't like this episode as much as other people seem to do, but it's still one of Season 1's better episodes. Brad Bird did a good job directing it, and the mystery behind Krusty's framing was well-done.

Again, really good story line, but has a slowly developing plot typical of season 1. B+

The best episode of season 1 in humour particularly the great performance of Kelsey Grammer as Sideshowbob.

    Some Enchanted Evening

This isn't a bad episode, but I don't think it's particularly great either. My favorite moment is probably Homer letting the babysitter go just before the cops get there and giving her extra money. Pretty good for season 1 though.

Average as far as I'm concerned, something about this episode just didn't do it for me.
