The show isn't sitting an exam. If an episode is truly terrible and has no (or very few) redeeming features then it deserves the lowest mark, whether that's 1/5, 0/5, F, D or X.

I'm talking about your A's and B's. If episodes from this clearly quality-dipped season get to be placed among the same ranks as "Cape Feare", "Who Shot Mr. Burns", "THOH V", or an episode like "The Last Exit To Springfield", then why is this show considered one of the greatest of all time? I know, it all comes down to opinion, but like you said, "I find it physically impossible to fail an episode of the show and that there is no such thing as a bad episode". How is it impossible? Does that mean that if a future episode was released where Homer sleeps with Mrs. Lovejoy, and then kills her so that she doesn't tell Marge, that that wouldn't be a bad episode? As long as it makes you laugh though... That's terrible.
"The Simpsons" isn't just about the gags. In the early years, it is to this day the closest thing to portray the real, average, American family, which was written so naturally, that the dialogue/moments felt so real. You would laugh and cry, and at the end feel truly entertained. The characters are lovable and became American icons. The show has been going so long that it inevitably has changed drastically. Many new episodes have (and don't tell me they don't) awfully bad moments which leads to an ultimately failed episode. Do yourself a favor and watch seasons 1-11 in chronological order. You will start to notice a dip in quality, and if it doesn't hit you on the last disc of season 9, then it will be like a punch in the face midway season 10 and onward.
Now, don't get me wrong, for I DO love this show. I love this show almost as much as I love my family and friends. It is a part of me, and always will be. It's just that, if my sister were to start heavily drinking and became a heroin addict, I wouldn't applaude her, saying there is no possible way you can disappoint me, for after all you are my sister. I would try to get her the help that she needs and try to fix the situation since I do care for her. I'm concerned for "The Simpsons" name in the same exact way.
I'm just saying that you are entitled to your opinion, but don't tell yourself that there is no such thing as an "F". Easy grading might feel good to you, like your own personal way of protecting the entire show, but it's that kind of action that many people embark upon, which causes the writers to slack off. I mean, hell why did they try so hard on the episodes that made this show great, when they could just easily please the audience with Homer spinning around like a helicopter, Moe getting a facelift, or a jerkass Homer offshore monkey knife fight? It's all good.

It's being "disrespectful" because acting like the handicapper general in praising the shit Scully seasons is saying the genuine good years of the show were also shit seasons. Likewise, how would like to to recieve $500 for first place in a contest you worked very hard on only to find out the guy who half-assed it also got $500 and didn't even finish?

You sound like one of those "Hooray for Everything!" kids on TV from "Bart vs. Thanksgiving."

why do you guys keep bagging on me just cause i still like the show? i find it funny. Sure, you guys don't, but that doesn't mean i can't. I have always loved this show, i grew up watching it in season 12, so i am used to different stuff. nothing can make me hate this show and that is that. if they made a bad episode i truly would think it was bad, but i have different opinions. if they made an episode where Homer kills and sleeps with Helen, i would not like it, but this isn't Family Guy or something, where a plot like that actually would happen. I know, the early seasons were funny because they were a satire on the modern family, but why am i not allowed to love the show still?

oh and "Homer sleeping with Helen and then killing her... as long as you laugh... that's terrible." What makes you think i would laugh at that? Just cause i laugh a lot, doesn't mean i would laugh at that. And please note i also said i have to be ENTERTAINED to like an episode

If you've liked everything they've done up to this point, that's fair enough. I think what might be getting some people is how you said nothing can make you hate it. We don't know what's ahead in the future, so who's to say there isn't something in store that truly does feel to be an utter failure in your eyes?

or something like that, that is one thing, but i highly doubt Jean would do that... this show is still typically TV PG {they still could do it, but it wouldn't be as bad as if Family Guy did it}

We don't care that you STILL like the show, but what rubbed a lot of people the wrong way is you saying: "Yeah, I loved season 12 and the earlier years are just as good." To alot of people, that's like shitting on the earlier years of the show.
