no way, commentaries are why I buy these sets
no way, commentaries are why I buy these sets
I stopped bothering listening to the commentaries a couple of seasons ago, so Im not fussed about that. I just want the whole series on DVD as soon as possible.
Dont Get Up Gentlemen, I'm Only Passin' Through...

I don't listen to the commentaries very often. I'll only listen to them if there's someone interesting in them or if I want to hear them comment on a certain episode.
There is no way I would buy the sets if there was no commentary. I always find it interesting to listen to the commentaries regardless of how other people perceive the more recent seasons'. I find the commentaries to give the fans a much needed insight into the making of an episode, and you almost always find some interesting tidbits while listening. Basically, if there were no commentaries, then (to me) there would be no point in buying the boxset.

i wonder if they are going to release the seasons on blueray later and if so,i wonder how much seasons they would put on 1 disc
That is an interesting question. The Simpsons Movie is already on BluRay. In theory there would be less discs and that would be great having more eps on one disc. Also they could make the packaging thinner and less space consuming. They are quite thin as they are, but with 20 Seasons give or take it they will still consume a fair chunk of room...Originally Posted by KoenSoontjens

Time goes too fast, I remember when the first season was out and I thought it would take ages to get to season 11, and well, here we are...
A release I'm looking forward to.
So, any word on the current status of this at all? I can't be arsed reading through the last few pages. Has there been any official comment by Matt Groening or FOX or someone else regarding what's happening with it, and if the strike is hindering things?
One of the few who still enjoys new episodes of The Simpsons.
Nope, not an official word on the set at all.

if that is true,it could take a while before they release the season.Originally Posted by StupidHippo

I would buy season 11 without commentaries. But i would be angry.

I'd still buy it for my collection. What will the box for S11 look like?
As a huge fan and a completist, I would have to buy the season with commentaries or without. I'm sure I'd end up spending a lot less time with it without commentaries though. I'd much rather hear the discussion surrounding some of the shittier episodes than rewatch said travesties with nothing new.
I don't think they would release this set without commentaries, I mean if they did, it would have came out already right?
Good point.Originally Posted by Sprungfeld
So you're saying it didnt take ages? Its been seven years to get to where we are now. Thats a ridiculously slow release schedule compared to most series. Should be a minimum of six months between seasons imo, and even thats pretty slow.Originally Posted by Johnsy
indeed at that rate i will be 25 by the time everything is released.
Really? I get them for the deleted scenes.Originally Posted by E.A.R.L
I get them for both. Simpsons dvd's really are the best on extras so far.

I've enjoyed the commentaries for each season so far. I wouldn't buy it without them.
Totally agree, it's especially slow considering how many more Seasons are left to release, and that DVD won't stay forever...Originally Posted by jim
yeah some of these seasons will probably never come out on DVD, becasue it will be obsolete by then.
they schould release 3 seasons a year to make up for lost time.
Which is very sad. Do you notice how cheap VHS tapes are now? I'm planning on using DVDs even after the medium dies, because they'll be cheap by then! I want to be able to buy seasons 1-19 for 10 bucks each, and that wont happen unless they all get released.Originally Posted by Dave Shutton
I just realized that this delay may be because of a certain line in Behind the Laughter.
And that would be.....?Originally Posted by Elkwood

I too am puzzled by which "line" you mean. I just read through "Behind the Laughter"'s script and didn't find anything which would slow down production due to a recent death or something. If you're referring to the alternative "Northern ______ family" line that aired once or twice, it's not a problem since they could just include that as an alternate ending or something.

With the exception of Seasons 1 and 2 in one set, I doubt they'd condense any of the seasons down to less discs because sounds like a better value to have more discs per set. Also, the only episodes that would really benefit from an HD upgrade would be all the episodes made after Large Marge due to the change to digital inking.Originally Posted by Otis P Jivefunk
Besides, S11 was terrible in standard def, and I doubt it'd be anymore enjoyable in HD.![]()
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.
