I gave a 4.5 a while ago, but looking back at it now I should've gone with a 4. Nonetheless I enjoyed it quite a bit, I didn't think (nor did I expect) it to be the greatest achievement in the history of the show. Naturally many people were sorely disappointed for thinking in that manner. One of the things I was disappointed in was the fact that it didn't contain as many subtle reference that a classic era episode would have. That's probably due to the fact that they're trying to reach a larger audience, but it felt like a bit of a let-down. But the whole movie itself seemed more centered around the general audience, rather than the fanbase. I noticed that many scenes felt like parallels to events in the series, such as Homer's epihany bearing a strong resemblance to his chili hallucination in "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer". I also felt that it was pretty short, by movie standards. I liked the plot structure, however, and the subtle eco-message behind it. Regardless of its flaws I still enjoyed it, moreso than any recent episode, anyways. 4/5 or B+/A-

After watching it I felt that a sequel would be entirely unnecessary, but looking at it now I feel that a movie finale would be appreciated, if they can address some of the first movie's issues, and maybe they can make it longer than an hour and 27 minutes.

After watching it again, I think I'll rate it a 3/5, mostly due to the "Homer gets hurt" is a majority of the humor.

Also, with the series in HD, the better 'look' of the movie has lost a little of its edge.

WOO-HOO! Completely worth the 18 year wait! (Quoting the poll) Anyway, I like the plot, gags, and how much action is in it. It's also very epic. The only two gags I could have done without are Lisa fainting and Bart's penis showing.

Overall: 5/5 (Better than any episode IMO.)
You can do anything if you put your mind to it.

    Everything happens for a reason.

Just be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.

Don't worry about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.

I hope for the next film they don't feel the need to have it be so epic. I want it to be just a normal episode, and just have them extend it. Throwing in more side jokes and expanding the plot and character development over and hour and a half. For the sequel I'd rather that they just stay in Springfield so they can utilize more of their best characters (Mr. Burns, Otto, Moe, Apu, Skinner, Chalmers, etc.)

What do you mean, not the best? There's only one.

Just rewatched it a 3rd time. Final verdict... 6/5! That's right, I dare say it's better than classic era Simpsons. The whole feel of it seemed to emcompass every aspect of the first 9 seasons and then some. There was the wry satire of season 5, the wackyness of 9, the strong cinematic/dramatic element of 1, 2, and 3. Most of all however, it was majestic. Like some of the most powerful episodes - Summer of 4ft 2, Treehouse of Horror IV, Lisa's Wedding - the film sucked me into this magical reality of the Simpson's world. It wasn't just an assemblage of jokes and narrative, it was an aesthetic built together by gorgeous animation, strong direction, music, and most of all, powerful writing that said more than any episode has ever said as an artistic statement.

Plus, it was satirical to the max! Since when has the show been this biting towards current issues, politics, the media?? Geez, Groening must have really had an influence in this masterpiece, because for the first time in well over a decade, the Simpsons were truly "punk". The jokes were great, but what really did it for me is that this went beyond the show, even when it was at it's best. Jokes like the animals undressing Marge and Homer, the train ride with the secret service spies, the whole plot of the dome, Russ Cargil's character, etc... took the show's format in even newer directions. It satisfied everyone's grievances towards the newer episodes and managed to simultaneously push "the classic" style into to completely new territory.

Again, while it was funny, it was the sheer power of the "raison d'etre" of the film that triumphed. The atmosphere, the characters, the music, the direction and art, the concept and plot, the pacing and organization, the satiral statements it made, and most of all the fact that it entertained something entirely new while succeeding at satisfying every classic fan are what make it a masterpiece.

Hopefully this is the start of a whole new era for the series. Hopefully.

4/5. It was certainly excellent and inspired. However, I didn't find the parts away from Springfield too enjoyable (apart from the videotape)

I give it 4.5. I saw it opening day, and loved it. However, now I see some problems: Homer gets injured a lot, and that is where a lot of the humor is {same can be said for some of the episodes of the show}. After the "To Be Continued... Immediately" gag, the movie goes a bit downhill, I think. I also think that the big fans of this show wanted a movie really badly, so they gave it a good score. But still, it remains an OK film

This was absolutely great. It was definately the best film of 2007. And yes, it was better than classic-era Simpsons. This just had so much collaboration in between the best writers of the Simpsons, that it could just not fail. 10/5

Very nicely done. It feels like an extra long Simpsons episode, though it looks different. A whole lot of computer graphics, which - I think - is bad. Only the characters are still drawn by hand, so sometimes it looks kinda out of context en too kiddy. The computer animated houses and vehicles look like babytoys.
Notwithstanding I think the story is superb in every way, and it is really fun to watch.
Packed with hilarious jokes and gags that can only be seen in The Simpsons.
    Gave it a 4 out of 5.

It was okay. Easily better than the series at this point, but that isn't that much of an accomplishment in my mind. It wasn't really cringe-worthy so I guess that's good enough for me. I didn't think anything was particularly hilarious though. 3/5

This movie was obviously aimed at the more commercial, younger simpsons fans. The spider pig gags were just pianful- (harry plopper- thats smart) the homer gets hurt gags were terrible, and a lot of it was just - well bart getting tied to a lampost naked was probably the worst part of the movie. Some good jokes but the plot was really bad. Just a commersialized version of a stupid jean episode- oh and a marriage is on the rocks plotline. Some of it was really painful. I'll be generous and give it a 2/5

Are you joking? No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood both came out in that year. The Simpsons Movie wouldn't even make a top twenty best films of 2007 list.

Let me reiterate what I said many pages ago. This was typical shlock with some decent gags that harken back to the classic years. The 'emotion' was awful and the only people who actually think that this is some poignant multifaceted story are very easily manipulated. And as a movie it falls flat, just a commercial venture. Very predictable, very much a summer popcorn movie.

    Gah

I watched it again after a few months and the two best bits: Marge's video goodbye and the bar/church scenes were still as good as I remember, but the rest was almost unwatchable.

So after a year and a half: 3/5 is my new grade.

the movie goes down a little bit more each time i watch it. If it reviewed it the first day, it would be a definite 5/5, but now i think i have to give it either a 4/5, or 3/5.

I thought it was funny when Homer drove through those signs and dumped the pig crap excuse my language into the lake and then a skull came up and said evil
