Samurai Jack: The Movie

Television-producers-turned-indie-feature-film-company Frederator Studios (now Frederator Films) are starting work on their first animated film, which'll be a big-screen Samurai Jack finale written and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky that'll tie up all of the show's loose ends.

Here's the scoop.

I haven't heard much on this since that news was announced but I'm still praying to God that this'll happen someday

It was probably one of my favorite shows in my later childhood and I still love it, so I was really saddened that it didn't get a proper ending all those years ago

Well even so, Genndy confirmed he was going to do a final film for Samurai Jack even after Mako's death so that obviously didn't affect his decision completely. He also said that there would be an animated film and/or a live action one, but to be honest I really want to see an animated version. Think about it, if it were live action would Phil LaMarr play Jack? Would John DiMaggio play the Scotsman? More than likely not. So even though live action would be kinda cool I think an animated film would have more familiarity to it. I'll definately miss Mako's over-the-top characterization of Aku, but that should not be a reason to entirely cancel out a final Samurai Jack project. Alot of people(including me) reaally wanna see this story come to a proper conclusion

He may want to, but the climate for animation like this is pretty bad at the moment. I mean, it's becoming even questionable to call Cartoon Network Cartoon Network more and more.

I certainly hope he does eventually though I'll sweep it up in a heartbeat.

I saw the sad trend to stray away from cartoons starting with "Saved by the Bell" reruns,.. then to slowly ease us into the transition "Jimmy's Head" ..a live show with a little animation thrown into it, .. then they started showing regular hit movies on certain nights,... and now the gloves are off and no rules apply anymore,...

Chowder was awesome and it's been cancelled by the way.

But hey Flapjack's not so bad, it's got such a trippy style and some of the subtext in it is just...so weird it's great. It's just surrounded by crap I have no patience for, and even my animation loving self feels just stupid for even looking at in my 20s. It's basically a dead channel to me before Venture Brothers comes on.

Samurai Jack... man, I haven't seen that show in what, 7 years? If there was a movie made, I'd see it, the nostalgia effect alone would be enough to get me to watch it, but Mako was the perfect voice for Aku...

Close enough may suit some people, but I'm one of those who can hear the difference and pines for the original.

Well that was only one episode and it sounds like one of the really early ones but it's an aquired taste. Even I don't think I'd be able to watch it any time, but my younger self probably would have loved it. It certainly doesn't deserve to be grouped together with the flash-crap shows I think at least.

I just really like the mix of almost old fashioned cartoon bizzareness along the lines of something you'd see in Nickelodeon's older days, and that sort of trippy 18th century caricature look. It gets, really out there sometimes.



K'nuckles is what makes the show. It and Chowder are basically like sister/brother shows, I think of them as the last of the cartooncartoons for now since I haven't heard of them making something new on the horizon at the moment. Chowders' been axed as of now too.
