    Mission Hill appreciation thread

I haven't really seen any mention of the great Mission Hill anywhere on NoHomers, which I found surprising, seeing as it is made by Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein. I personally love it and I wondered if anyone else at the NHC shared my opinion. So I started this thread to discuss things we like about Mission Hill, favourite episodes, characters, jokes etc.
    Go!
Oh please, this is senseless destruction, with none of my usual social commentary
    -Bart Simpson

We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One of them is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere.Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville? I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what we called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt-which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them. "Gimme five bees for a quarter,"you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah. The important thing was I had an onion tied to my belt-which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. All you could get was those big yellow ones....

yeah mission hill is amazing, fred showed me some episodes and it is way better than i thought. i think that they shoudl perhaps feature something from mission hill in a simpsons episodes, like they did with the critic in "a star is burns" this is certainly a great cartoon from two great simpsons writers.

my fav' episode would have to be the one with kevin french and the porno mag, i cant remember the exact name but i thought it was really original and entertaining. i especially enjoyed the joke:

andy: sir, have you ever possibly once in your life.....masturbated?
random guy he asked the question to: welllllll once.............but only by accident.

haha i had a good laugh at that one.

my favourite character would have to be toby, even though he's kinda underrated he is still a great character

Amazing show that should have never been cancelled. Especially considering all the character development Bill & Josh were preparing for seasons to come. And the fact that it was awesome-looking.

Favorite episodes? Everything Dan McGrath wrote for the show: Hot For Weirdie, Stories Of Hope And Forgiveness and Plan 9 From Mission Hill. But they were all great.

Yeah this was a good show, It makes it even funnier to hear them do voices after hearing them on so many commentaries. I thought 'Hot for Weirdie' was by far the worst episode, so It's suprising to see people single it out as a favourite.

The best ones I thought were the 2nd of the 2 parter, Plan 9 from Mission Hill and the Real World episode.

GREAT THREAD! I am a big fan of mission hill as any fan would be able to realize from my username and previous avatar. My favourite episodes are Unemployment part 2 and Andy Vs. The Real world.

Best plot? When Gus gets a knife stuck in his head.

I liked Unemploymet Part 2, Plan 9 from Mission Hill, One Bang for Two Brothers but their all great. They should really bring it back, those first thirteen episodes were great and they never really gave it a chance to fulfill it's potential.

Great show, own the DVD and savour it every now and then.

There's five unproduced episodes that were completely written, all of them hilarious, especially "I Was a Teenage Porn Star". Scripts available for download here.

    Ah, memories...

There's a district in Northridge here called Mission Hill, everytime I pass it I think of this show.

I think it was pretty alright. Andy is one of the most unfortunatly relatable modern world 20-something characters shown on TV in a long time. I also liked how it was really starting to lightly imply that they want to bring some development to Kevin, I always wondered if there was secretly much of a difference between him and Andy aside from a difference in experience. Like...if Andy were in Kevin's place and vise versa would they be all that different. I wonder if given a few more years, if Kevin would end up a similar person.

I always loved how Gus was based off of Lawrence Tierney. For those who don't know, Josh and Bill had Lawrence on as a guest voice on the Simpsons and apparently he was "the craziest guest apperearance we've ever had".

Then I saw both his appearances. I bet they were planning to make him a recurring character because they wouldn't have had in two episodes otherwise.

That's the full animatic for the scheduled 16th episode of Mission Hill, and I loved it.

hey, its always nice to see fans of a show display their needs and i think wanting to bring back any show is a good and constructive idea. sure, the odds on it actually returning due to a fan made campaign are very low, but its nice to see fans with hope. just afew months i thought it might be funny to put all my money in my will towards the bring back simpsons campaign. none of such exists at the moment, but you never know. so WHERES MR BURRITO?, dont lose hope, mossion hill was a great show and always will be.

I think that what made Mission Hill great was that all of it's humor was approached with a sincere, honest approach unlike any other primetime show, much less an animated one. Unfortunately, it just wasnt what the highly intelligent viewers of The WB were looking for.

I finally got the dvd set and I'm six episodes in. I'm loving it so far. How great and funny all the characters are, how relatable it is, and how well the plots are constructed and how interesting they are. My favorite episode so far is either Kevin's Problem or Andy and Kevin make a Friend and my favorite character is tough because, like I said, I like a lot of the characters. I relate a lot to Kevin and Andy, but I find Gus & Wally, George, Toby, and Jim funnier so...
