This episode is far too bland and inoffensive. It could've used stronger satirisation of MMORPG's than the gentle riffing we ended up with, not too mention Bart accidentally killing Marge does not make for compelling drama to the extent as the story made it out to be.
It's a bit like having sex with a jellyfish: once might an interesting experiment, twice would be perversion!
after I told him my name, he beat seven shades out of me and left me in a dumpster with a bar of soap shoved in my mouth and a brush shoved in where the sun doesn't shine

A well-written episode and one of the funniest eps of the past few seasons, but it's not *quite* as good as, say, "24 Minutes".

Liked this one from the beginning especially Marge's plot. B+ which is good enough to be in my top 5 from Season 18.

I just watched this episde for the first time tonight. Pretty good episode and that game they were playing is a real game which I found kind of funny.

I don't know too much about online gaming, but I'm a sucker for a good Bart/Marge story and this one delivers. It was fun, nothing more, nothing less. The subplot with Homer and Lisa wasn't as strong, but I do appreciate the contrasting parent/child bonding plots.

    Dramatization: May not have happened.

This was an awful episode. Nothing but a string of unfunny punchlines with no jokes. The 'Earthland Realms' plot was potentially promising, but Lisa's soccer sub plot is full of wasted potential. My favorite moments:

B+ from me very good episode
"Look, Marge, you don't know what it's like. I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And i'm not out of order! You're out of order. The whole freaking system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth! Because when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it, Marge. It's Chinatown!" - Homer's rant.

For the most part, I thought this was a great episode, enjoyable all the way through, rather than in parts only. The major complaint that I had was that Ronaldo's performance was not only unnecessary, it was also badly delivered. Granted, his English probably isn't particularly fluent or impressive, but it was still a performance more wooden than the Amazon rainforest. The good parts: The mockery of various websites that Marge browses, and the RPG scenes felt spot on (not that I play many, but the game and general culture was sent up very well).

I remember it as a funny, or at least enjoyable, episode. The plot had good gags and the subplot was very humorous in some scenes.

My main reason to consider this episode a top5 one from 18th season is anyway Marge. I could agree with people who are tired of stupid Warcraft or Dungeons and Dragons parodies, but if they are channeled into going into two characters' relationship in depth in an original way, they turn into really interesting plots. And that happened with this one. The semi-virtual interaction between Marge and Bart was great and a lot more credible than what she showed in Ice Cream Of Margie.

8.5/10, because it had some flaws that prevented it from being a great episode.

Pretty terrible episode with poor storylines and very unfunny attempts at spoofing the games but it had some other funny lines that save it from being a total disaster.

The construction of this episode was odd. Writers seem to introduce the subplot when they realize the main plot won’t be able to fill the entire episode, so the subplot started somewhere in the eleventh minute. They pulled it off with Little big girl, but this time they failed, because the transition was strange.

What I liked here was the animation in the computer game. Snake being a cobra, and Marge thinking Moe is a troll were great gags. It gets less funny from the moment the Bart/Marge relationship story starts. The scene with ‘’the real Moe’’ was terrible, and I can’t realize why people enjoyed it so much.

I didn’t enjoy the subplot, mostly because of many unsuccessful jokes, such as the one with Hellen adressing Lisa. I’m glad that Homer was the one who’s right for once, but Lisa’s characterisation bothered me a lot. The appearance of Ronaldo was pointless and not even remotely funny.

Overall, I wish the comedy was better, since the main story had potential. Strangely enough, the funniest moment in the entire episode was the very last line.

This was a very strange episode if I recall. Some of the parts f the A-story seem interesting but mainly because it's like you're actually watching a game, not a TV show. I'd probably have to see it again, but I'll give it a 2/5 for now.

just curious jake, what would you give it if you watched it again?

Some really funny lines (mostly when Homer took the referree job), and although the Bart and Marge A plot seemed a-bit awkward, it could have been executed alot worse.

I watched this episode recently and it had such a good basic plot. the fact is I found the sub-plot with lisa playing soccer unbelievably weird and awkward. Lisa playing sports? wtf! I know I'm probably one of the few who like football in this thread, I just found lisa doing keep-uppies with the ball to be weird. I mean she's an eight year old intellectual, how did she get such good ball control? and the guest appearance was an abomination.
The main plot provided the only laughs, I like marge discovering e-mail, and shopping for sheets and stuff, but Jean era Marge is the possibly the most annoying character there is. I actually felt Bart's frustration when she "mommed" all over his game. She is just so over cautious and bland since scully, at least then she would come out with the most annoying one liners. Skinner playing the game from the school library to talk to edna was pretty clever and I quite liked the ending, but it is a bit of a south park rip-off. thats the problem with recent simpsons, they're too slow to do a decent episode on modern technology or life. It just seemed the episode was written by forty year old men who have only heard of the internet.
Still I liked the whole RPG plot so I'll be generous and give it a 3/5 or C+

I'm in two minds about this episode. On the one hand, it's a decently plotted episode that at least kept me semi-interested. On the other hand, it really, really wasn't that funny. Eh, 2/5, I guess.

I enjoyed this at first but after a 2nd viewing it felt like a lazy attempt to make fun of MMORPG's with no real substance and a forced conflict

(also it pales compared to Southparks Warcraft episode)

    3/5

Well, you're not, and thank god for that
500 episodes, about 200 good ones.

The episode "Whacking Day'' curiously aired the same day as Seinfeld's "The Contest'', which deals with a different kind of whacking.

As a long time WoW player, I quite enjoyed the episode. I remember my first time jumping into the MMORPG genre.... luckily I came with my friends who helped me trough the game. The Lisa plot was quite nice, but I wouldn't expect her to be a bitch and cheat her way for free kick offs... thats not the kind of person she is.

Hopefully Marge took revenge to all of them, I wonder if she still plays the game :P
