Wow, that's a lot of commercials. Maybe there aren't commentaries on every episode because it's hard for the crew to watch all of them since they started getting really bad? Or maybe they were just too busy running the show and making the movie during this DVD's production. It's good to see Mark Hamill listed on one of the commentaries...you gotta respect guest stars who come in for those.

    Top Ten:
    1. "Who Shot Mr. Burns?"
    2. "The Way We Was"
    3. "Summer of 4 Ft. 2"
    4. "Boy Scoutz in the Hood"
    5. "Bart's Comet"
    6. "Sweet Seymour Skinner's Badasssss Song"
    7. "Lisa On Ice"
    8. "Bart Sells His Soul"
    9. "Homer at the Bat"
    10. "Lisa's Pony"

    Uhhh....I'll be back! Pruh-Probably.

Cool to see Mark Hamill on the commentary for Mayored to the Mob - it's a shame there aren't more guest stars, I enjoy it when they're on the commentaries.

Rest of the features look purdy too. I hope they fix the DVDs so that the "inline" deleted scenes work properly.

    edit: regarding this:
The Simpsons Movie - DVD Sneak Peek
Is this a sneak peek of the movie, or the DVD for the movie? I guess the latter makes more sense since the film will already be out before the DVD.

Well think about it, if there are only 16 out of 23 that is still a lot, even though many of the commentaries include fairly new or first timers to them. Maybe it's just this set for the quality of the episodes or lack of time for doing the commentaries during ending production. Plus what other show has over 200 episodes of pure commentary completeness? Or I'm just an optimist and I'm trying to figure out the reason for this madness.

Nothing really unexpected for the DVD extras. Nice to have a release date.

Not all episodes having commentaries is a massive disappointment, esspecially with the quality drop this season. Hopefully that's incomplete information, or this is just a one time thing.

Thanks for the update, it's good to finally have a release date set in stone. And seven days after the movie leaves time for repeated film viewings before moving on to this set!
she didnt exactly read shrek the 3rd, which apparently exists as some sort of companion book for a pixar movie. no, this would probably take several minutes (perhaps 10), and would have ultimately depricated the shrek 3 cinematic experience

she merely looked at the book

she saw it, perhaps in the childrens section of a barnes & noble, registered it in her mind as being in existance, and filed it away for later as the subject for a post on BOOKS YOUVE READ. only she just looked at it. and it was shrek 3

in a way its the saddest post ive ever read

I find it odd that they dont have all the commentary tracks listed. Does that mean they didnt record a commentary track for all episodes? 'Cause that would be a shame...
I'm willing to bet all episodes have a commentary track. I remember there were at least two other seasons where this happened. The commentaries were announced early on and some episodes were left out. After much speculation on the boards, those "missing" commentaries were on the finished product.

I'm a little sad there's no tribute to Phil Hartman though. I was hoping they would do something special.

I think they may dedicate the whole "Bart the Mother" episode commentary to Phil Hartman since it was his last episode. Or maybe another hidden commentary like the one for season 9 with Bill and Josh? Either way, there just has to be some type of tribute to the late, great Phil Hartman.

If there is not an easter egg ode tp hartemen and commentaries on all eps, I will be sad. Also, lets try to guess the theme, matts intro says a line from matt groening, so I think either a line of grafity, or a line of a scriipt, both of which would make decent themes.

Movie theme? I'unno, sure, a movie premiere's already been done on S7, but still...

    Lisa Gets An A
    Homer Simpson in "Kidney Trouble"
    I'm With Cupid
Marge Simpson in "Screaming Yellow Honkers"
    Make Room For Lisa
    Maximum Homerdrive
    Monty Can't Buy Me Love

^They're the episodes without a commentary...yet. I think they either haven't finished recording them or haven't compiled info for them yet...I noticed most episodes are actually consecutive -- as in I'm With Cupid, Screaming Yellow Honkers, Make Room For Lisa, and Maximum Homerdrive will all be one after another on the actual set...that could be an indicator that they just haven't done info yet since I can't see them skipping four episodes in a row.

i'd check if i had the time, but is there anything in common with those eps? same writers, directors, etc? cos they might film them all on one day if so. or, the same writers/directors might not be doing it this time.

    nevermind

John Swartzwelder writes three of them
Bob Anderson directs two of them

that's about all the similarities. and the fact that three are Swartzwelder eps means the prospect of them recording commentaries is low.

mm. inconclusive isnt it. the anderson's and co. have either just not recorded their commentaries yet or don't plan to.

still if they could get scully, groening, and some voice actors to do it, it'd be better than nothing. matt groening still boasts with pride that they're one of the only shows to commentate each episode and he should be doing his bit to keep that tradition alive.

Yeah, I would be incredibly disappointed if they begin omitting certain episodes from having commentaries -- they are some of the most enjoyable features on these sets. No doubt there's also going to be some people who'll say something like "they haven't commentated on them because they don't want to admit how crummy they are".

I don't think they'd base a whole season theme on a piece of graffiti or a line of a script. Movie theme seems unlikely since that's already been sort of done already.

Maybe it's "a line from Matt Groening", because they were all on coke while they wrote this season ;-/

Great news! I'm surprised they're releasing it so close to the Movie, though. Maybe in the UK it'll come out around the same time as the Movie DVD?

Ha ha! That's a good one.
Glad to see the details about releasing this one, finally. Maybe now it'll put an end to everyone posting in the future that this time it's coming out two months earlier than normal because my friend who works at Wikipedia thinks so...

Hearing an official release date is always fun, but it's best when they release the box art. Sometime in the next month we'll see what I've really been waiting for (box art/design).

Me too, I think it might be something to do with Springfield Elementary. You know why?

"A Line From Matt Groening" maybe that's a clue, to do with Bart always writing lines on the blackboard. I don't know, maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong.

    Did anyone else think this?

I wonder when it's released in the UK

Sorry for the second post, but I just read this from the TV shows on DVD article:
Yes, the information we received indicates that only 16 of the 23 episodes have commentary on it. The information may have been incomplete, or there may only be 16 commentary tracks on the set.
Let me just say that they've only released information about those episodes and there will be commentary on every episode. Since season 1 the people involved (most notably Matt Groening) have prided themselves on the fact that there is commentary on every episode (not like those other DVD box sets). There will probably be more information about the other episodes later on, and they just gave us "teaser" information to go along with the release date annoucement.

Not a chance - we'd be lucky to see it by the end of the month. It'll most likely surface in june sometime - usually about a month after they announce the release date.

    Actually:
    11 OCTOBER 2006 Season 9 Extras Released
    16 OCTOBER 2006 Season 9 Artwork Released

    11 MAY 2006 Season 8 Extras Released
    17 MAY 2006 Season 8 Artwork Released

So based on those trends i'd expect cover art by next Tuesday.

Glad to finally see a release date, still waiting for a UK one though. I'm expecting September.

I'm dissapointed that there's only commentaries on 16 episodes though. It's probably just incomplete information though, Groening's always taken pride in The Simpsons being one of the only shows that do commentary on every episode. So he'd probably make sure that there's one on every one.

  27. #267

    Actually:
    28 SEPTEMBER 2006 Season 9 Announced
    11 OCTOBER 2006 Season 9 Extras Released
    16 OCTOBER 2006 Season 9 Artwork Released

This season appears to be different in that they released (at least) a partial list of the extras the same time they annouced the release date. Usually there is about a month between the first news and the artwork, and that's what I'm basing my logic on.

Remember Bill and Josh said that the commentary stuff always takes a while, etc., etc.
