Did the crank call featurette really have ALL the calls to Moe's Tavern (at least from seasons 1-10)? It just seemed odd how it skipped from 1993 to 1996 and then stopped.

Well, it's a mediocre season in the end. Only a few episodes can stand up to the first 9 seasons and there's way too much annoying Homer. I usually love the character but not in this season. I don't think I want to buy future boxsets. No amount of nostalgia for the earlier seasons can save seasons 11 and 12 from being horrible seasons in my opinion. Here's a few positive things I noted about season 10 though.
    1. The episodes on disc 1 are for the most part pretty good. No surprise there since they're almost all season 9 holdovers.
    2. As mediocre as this season can be, it's not as painful to watch as seasons 11 and 12.
    3. Season 10 makes me realize yet again just how great the classic seasons are and just how lucky we are to have had 9 mostly great seasons before The Simpsons became just another crappy tv show.

No, not all the Moe's Crank Calls were in that feature it was really season 1 to season 6 best crank calls.
    mmmm.....The Simpsons Season 11 coming soon...mmmm...........donut..........

Actually, they stopped doing them in season 4. Then I think they went back and did one more at some point (probably season 6).

...except that you stated Troy Aikman played Wally Kogen. It was Fred Williard who played Wally... Aikman played himself.

I hope someone was fired over that blunder!
"Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance."

I finally got the boxset. I haven't gotten that far in, but the staff already made a "goof."

The chalkboard gag for "When You Dish Upon A Star" is "butt.butt is not my email address" when it was originally "butt.com" .com appears in syndication, but my guess is that the staff didn't want a porno site appearing in the chalkboard gag.

  11. #641

They still use butt.com in syndication?

Great review, Wezzo. Just one thing: do the menus really show the characters queueing for a jazz club again like S9? Or did you just forget to change that?

An interesting (but small) thing I noticed on the DVD packaging:

-Season 6 featured "The Simpsons" text in yellow with a red outline and "The Complete Sixth Season" text in yellow with black outlines.

-Seasons 7-9 featured "The Simpsons" text in white with a black outline (on the front and spines) and "The Complete _____ Season" text in yellow with black outlines.

-BUT on the shiny gold front and spine of season 10 "The Simpsons" text is yellow with a black outline and "The Complete Tenth Season" text in white with black outlines, a reverse of 7-9. WHEREAS the non shiny pull out spine is consistent with seasons 7-9.

Maybe some package-nazis like me can appreciate this observation.
    UP AND ATOM!

While season 10 wasn't my favorite season (although I still like most of the episodes), I have to say, I really like the theme of this set. The film studio theme both as menus and as box art work for me.

I wouldn't worry. Nobody's heard of either Fred Williard or Troy Aikman so it's all academic!
Yes, I agree, very good review as ever.

There will probably be more information about the other episodes later on, and they just gave us "teaser" information to go along with the release date annoucement.
Since I actually haven't taken the time to get this box set, I will gloat in the fact that back in May someone said that they'd have commentary on each episode. I know others of you believed as well, so don't think I'm lashing out at you guys, I just wanted to point out how silly it was for you unbelievers to panic like you did.
Notoriety for whatever reason, never seems to benefit the noted, only the 'notees'

Hmm, Troy Aikman is pretty well known by anyone in the states who remotely knows anything about (American) Football. So I'd say people would notice.

Does anyone else feel Wild Bart Can't Be Broken feels unusually like a classic episode unlike a majority of season 10. Except for the Chalmers/Agnus Skinner moment, the episode felt like it could have been in a oakley and weinstein season.

Not me. I fucking hated this one for some reason...but I love(and often quote) Homer's drunken rant at Moe's: "I wanna thank Jesus and say hi to my girl Marge! We did it baby! Whoo!!".... "They lost?! Those losers!!" and the part I really love is Homer' blank expression when Brockman tells him the didn't lose before belting out "Whoo!" again.
Wait till they get a load of me.

Season 10 is pretty bland overall but Wild Barts Can't Be Broken is one of the better ones. Not quite classic level but every above average episode is appreciated in a season starving for those.

  23. #653

Yea...Im not a fan of Wild Barts.

Alot of the more grounded, emotional episodes are just plain slow and boring. With O & W they were a little faster..

Wow, I was sure it was more popular here.

Also, I just finished Sunday, Cruddy Sunday(yes, I am going through this set incredibly slowly), and I never recall the catholic church joke being changed in syndication. I mean I did only see it once in repeats, and it was a long time ago, but I swear there wasn't a change to the joke. Good to see they left it in on the DVD though.

I've found easter egg deleted scenes for the episodes Wild Barts Can't be Broken, Make Room for Lisa, Maximum Homerdrive, and Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo. They can be accessed through the episode's menu and going up from "play episode", just like it was for the seasons 8 and 9 DVDs. Anyone found any more?

I can't find the main menus for the Season 10 DVD. I haven't bought the set yet, and was wondering what the menu designs would look like.

has anyone used the Best Buy coupon from the imageshack link? does it work?

also, does anyone have a link to the original? the imageshack one cuts off the entire right side of the coupon for me even if I paste it onto a word document.
