She's also annoying, redundant, and rarely does she contribute anything.

No Yeardly? That sucks, I love yeardly, she brings so much personality to the commentaries. These comentaries actually look pretty boring, no body realy interesting this time around

I'll probably get this, if only to add to my Simpsons DVD collection, still this is the season where I think The Simpsons started to go downhill in terms of quality.
Kids, let me tell you about another so-called ``wicked'' guy. He had long hair and some wild ideas. He didn't always do what other people thought was right. And that man's name was...
I forget. But the point is... I forget that, too. Marge, you know what I'm talking about. He used to drive that blue car?

Just seeing the alternate box art for the first time...not as impressive as it was in my mind. BUT I really do like how the boxes look lined up (seasons 6-10), so probably not a total waste.

I am still holding out for commentary on all the episodes...not doing it would be a sign of the staff admitting that season 10 was lesser quality than the others, and they don't do anything like that usually.
Notoriety for whatever reason, never seems to benefit the noted, only the 'notees'

Assuming there really are only 16 commentaries, I'm not terribly surprised. They were running out of things to say in season 9, and as the show goes on the episodes become less noteworthy. Boring episodes like "Screaming Yellow Honkers" or "Make Room for Lisa" aren't even worth commenting on.

My big beef with the lack of commentaries? It looks like they're trying to get out of explaining themselves for some of the worst episodes! No commentary for "Kidney Trouble," "Maximum Homerdrive," or "Monty Can't Buy Me Love?" Is that an admission of guilt? Mind you, "Lisa Gets an A" isn't included either, and that was among the best. Still, it's fishy.

aparently its final that there will not be comentary on every episode just look at the official site : http://www.thesimpsonsshop.com/detai...2026e9461592c2

Anyone else find it weird that Bart wasn't given his trademark 9 spikes on the box cover? I bet someone's mentioned this already.... ah well.

Anyways, I'm still holding out hope that all the episodes have commentary. Leave it to the show's truest downfall season to be the downfall of the DVD series.

They're most likely just getting worn out with the endless commentaries and such. They'll prob. pick back up with the next set...that's what my gut is telling me atleast.

No. Apparently a similar thing happened with the Season 7 set where people thought The Flying Hellfish had no commentary.

That was easily explainable though, it was a mistake on part of the source initially. If you looked at the article on tvshowsondvd.com in which the commentary was missing, you'd see that 22 Short Films About Springfield had Yeardley Weinstein listed hinting that the two names had been stuck together somehow. The listing for the next commentary continues on the same line too. So clearly there was some error on formatting and a small piece of text was accidentally ommited. This is different, there is several commentaries missing from episodes from all over the season with little to indicate that something went wrong.

If they're not releasing all episodes with commentary, it's sad. Also, it's not a good business move, they're quite aware that this was a point where a lot of long term fans stopped caring about the show and commentaries would be a way to win over people on the fence about buying it.

  19. #379

^But when they released the "detailed" info on the first two discs of season 6, Bart of darkness, Sideshow Bob Roberts, THOH V and Fear of flying had no commentary listed. You can see it here.

I'd bet it will be the same with season 10. Matt and others have boasted several times saying "unlike other shows, we do commentaries on every episode" and I'd say they think commentaries are a quality extra (if they didn't I don't think they would have bothered to make sometimes more than one for one episode and also on deleted scenes and animatics). I'd be really surprised (and disappointed) if there were only commentaries on 16 episodes this time.

    ^Good points, I didn't know that about season 6.

Also, Wiki has the region 2 date as August 31 and region 4 as October 23. However, they're unsourced, so there's a good chance they're not right.

  21. #381

i actually only buy these dvd sets for the commentaries, i have seen all the episodes a few times over and even though i like the episodes i enjoy the commentaries more.

if they are running out of things to say, it would be awsome if they bring in outside sources like well known critic/fans to give some insight.

^I agree about the commentaries being a main attraction. The Simpsons (all of it's seasons) get played non-stop where I live (all seasons, they don't focus on just one) so I've seen most episodes from every season at least 2-4 times. The commentaries are something that I look forward to because it gives me a reason to watch the episode again, and hopefully there are commentaries for ALL episodes (which I think there will be, since there doesn't seem to be a proper explanation as to why there wouldn't from the Simpsons staff themselves). I don't think that the whole "they realize the season sucks" theory would work since i remember Hank Azaria, Scully and Matt Groening talking about how fans feel about the newer episodes on a couple of commentaries, and they were all defending the newer episodes, so hopefully they will continue on with the DVDs regardless of what the fans think.

I'm surprised that people value the commentaries over the episodes. The commentaries are amusing, but the episodes are definitely why I buy the sets.

^Well yeah the episodes are great, and I'm pretty sure people buy the sets for the episodes as well, but the commentaries give you insight on how those episodes came to be. This could potentially give you a better understanding of the episodes, and in turn make you enjoy them just a little bit more. This is just a possibility though.

same with me .after you watched the episodes with comentary and you rewatch the episodes normaly ,you sometimes remember things from the comentary wich makes you enjoy the episode even more.

I totally agree. I see the episodes so often on TV, I typically watch the DVDs with the commentaries more frequently than without. I really believe that we will ses commentaries for every episode.

However, if commentaries will no longer be on every episode, that should speed up the the release schedule. By the year 2012 we just might be caught up.

So? Season 26 will have been the latest complete season, and the Season 26 DVD will be released in the same year...so they still catch up.
