As I've said before, my nerdy completist nature and the fact that there are plenty of good post-classic era episodes will force me to buy as many seasons as are released.

I'm still undecided to buy season 9 and 10 is a definate no, no. Personally, I could barely stand to watch them for free, much less paying for $40 for the set. Maybe they'll release: "Season 10: Good Version."![]()
What, one disc that has Lard of the Dance, Bart the Mother, Lisa Gets an A, Simpsons Bible Stories, They Saved Lisa's Brain, and Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo? (alright, possibly Mayored to the Mob, as well.)Originally Posted by Jake

I have to ask the completists, are you really that insistent that you have to get all of them, even if the show went to 30 seasons and the quality from season 19 went to season 11 level (or whatever you think the worst is)
I mean at first I thought it might just about be worth getting all of them, 13-16 are seasons I might have considerd buying when they go down to sale prices, and I was thinking the show would generally stay around that quality, and so I wouldn't have minded getting 10-12 to complete the set, since it would only be a few seasons I don't really want.
But what with the drop in quality in season 17, and the fact that there's no indication that the shows going to stop or improve anytime soon, I really have to wonder how many sets people are willing to buy of seasons they don't even really like simply in the intrests of completion, it just seems a little crazy to be spending hundreds of $/£ or whatever on something you don't really like that much, even if you were a millionare.
The only reason I'm buying these are for the commentaries / deleted scenes / easter eggs. If they only released the episodes by themselves on dvd I wouldn't buy them...they're already on my computer. Even some of the poorer episodes so far have some good commentaries (All Singing, All Dancing comes to mind)

Ya, I'm gonna buy em all. In my opinion the later seasons aren't as good but I will still buy every one cause I want to own the entire series. I also enjoy the commentaries, and in my opinion even the poorest seasons seem to have at least a couple classics.

I mean commentary on bad tv episodes or movies is interesting to a point, but for the most part you're just learning trivia about something that isn't that great. I don't know about any of you, but I don't buy bad movies just to hear the commentary. If a movie sucks, or is just mediocre/okay let's say, chances are the commentary won't be all that interesting to me, no matter how well done. Same with deleted scenes, etc. And with so many seasons past the show's prime, that's really a lot of time and money being invested in episodes that we're not totally crazy about.
Plus, honestly, a lot of the special features (though, don't get me wrong, they are very good) get very repetitive after a while. A lot of the commentaries have tended to contain the same stories and anecdotes over and over, and I honestly never want to watch another animatic as long as I live (I get the point already, they do a pencil version before the final show...).
So yeah, this season is definitely out of the picture. I'll think about it when they get to the Jean seasons, depending how much money I have at that point and where I'm at in my life and in my in The Simpsons (or just dvds in general even).
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?
Just a little something I whipped up out of boredom, definitely something similar to what they could do for the design.
Full Size
Very nice, if I could just suggest something about it, I'd move Bart to the right a bit and make him a bit bigger. I would also move the family a bit further towards the top. Other than that its great design idea.
Yea I just whipped it out, could have done a lot more with it but it was like 2am and I wanted to present an idea in a decent way.
I'm definitely going to buy it, but what I'm doing is purchasing the seasons I don't own (2,3,5), then buying the crap seasons.
I would like to own all the seasons, because even thought the show gets bad I don't think its that bad, just not as good thats all. And it would be great to be able to watch any simpsons episode ever made whenever I want to.

I will get it because I know I'll watch it - unlike some of the DVDs on my shelf - and will continue to buy every season. However, I'm not anticipating it as much as the classic seasons. I'm more looking forward to getting The Simpsons Movie DVD this year at the moment, but I'll see how that turns out first.
I'll be getting this season (as well as the rest) simply because it is The Simpsons. I know I'll watch the DVDs long after I'm finished with them, and although I see a decline in the quality of the show from the earlier seasons to the ones being released today, I personally do not think the decline is as steep as most people believe it is.
No offense, but brown and orange make a really ugly color combination.Originally Posted by dzinndesign

dzinndesign, are you still updating the images on your blogspot for the ninth and tenth seasons?

I guess I'll keep picking them up. As much as the Skully years are a disgrace to the show and its style as a whole, bad Simpson's is still alright television.
I've really always have gotten the DVD sets for the extras to be honest, I've seen the classic era episodes so much they had lost a bit of meaning. It wasn't until last year that I started to actually watch the episodes on the disc's, and it seems that the right amount of time has passed for me to enjoy them again. But 5 years ago (or whatever), I really just bought the season sets to find out more about how the show is made.
Also seasons 11-13 probably contains the episodes that I've seen the least amount of times, so a re visit might be nice.

I Will definitely buy this one , even if it isn't A Classic season. But the Simpsons is the Simpsons

"Simple", we watch the show, but some of us don't feel compelled to buy craploads of mediocre merchandise out of a blinding, 'completist' loyalty.Originally Posted by Cally
I just feel that people asking us about why we would spend money on crappy episodes forgets that maybe we consider those episodes good enough to purchase. That's the simplest and only reason I can think of.

Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.
This thread is getting really stupid and repeditive and less about season 10. Can we talk about season 10 instead of going in circles about if you are going to get every dvd? please
It's always refreshing to see DoTheBartman repeating for the umpteenth time, the reasoning behind him not buying boxsets beyond season 9. I can't wait for the same reasoning to occur before every season is released.
Yes, I'll be getting this boxset because I do enjoy many of the episodes. The decline is noticable, but the enjoyment is still there for me. Also, I'd hate to have a DVD collection with seasons missing from place to place, it'd kill me. I have a complete X-Files collection and the fact that one box deviates from the normal packaging absolutely kills me. Hopefully now that Swartzwelder has recorded a little bit of commentary, he'll seem a little more relaxed and give them more often for other episodes...hopefully.![]()
Dang, son, I was just posting again here to voice agreement with Thompson. Chill. I sincerely doubt I'll even really show up in the later threads for any reason. Not to mention we'll all probably be dead by the time they get around to releasing season 78 or however far they go.Originally Posted by Nebuchanezzar

If one happens to think the episodes themselves are worthy of purchase on their own that's fine, I think Thompson was more just asking the people who genuinely really dislike a number of seasons or even all of them past the classic era why they would invest that much money in them for the sake of completion. I mean, I think there's actually a person or two in here who've said they'll but them all "no matter what" that have actually stopped watching the show! But it's not a question that I think is directed at someone like you, who actually does enjoy the later shows enough to warrant it.
