The Simpsons: The Complete Tenth Season DVD Collector's Edition

I was going to hold off making this, but I searched and realized the Season 8 thread wasn't made long after the release of Season 7.

Anyway, this is where, most fans believe, everything started to go wrong. Jerkass Homer at his highest, wackier plots began to surface. Yep, the Scully era had surley arisen by this time.

Who's going to get it? Who's going to destroy it? Who's going to vow never to even glimpse at this set in the stores?

This set will DEFINITELY be the Bart head.

    5F20 Lard of the Dance

WRITER: Jane O'Brien DIRECTOR: Dominic Polcino
Homer and Bart team up to dip their hands in the grease recycling business. Meanwhile, Lisa is chosen to introduce a new student to Springfield Elementary, one who's years ahead of her age. Guest starring Lisa Kudrow as Alex.

5F21 The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace

WRITER: John Swartzwelder DIRECTOR: Mark Kirkland
Homer experiences a mid-life crisis when he realizes, at 38.1 years of age, that he hasn't accomplished anything meaningful. To curve his remorse, Homer decides to pattern himself after Thomas Edison and become the next great inventor. Guest starring William Daniels as K.I.T.T.

    5F22 Bart The Mother

WRITER: David S. Cohen DIRECTOR: Steven Dean Moore
Bart accidentally kills a mother bird with Nelson Muntz's bee-bee gun, and tries his best to raise the mother's eggs on his own. But when the hatchlings turn out to be a pair of destructive lizards that harvest nests for their own survival, the town's bird population is placed at great risk. Guest voice Phil Hartman, in his final speaking role on The Simpsons.

    AABF01 Treehouse of Horror IX

WRITER: Donick Cary, David S. Cohen DIRECTOR: Steven Dean Moore
In “Hell Toupée,” Homer's new hair transplant commands him to avenge its former owner's foes. Next, Bart and Lisa are sucked into their television to play a deadly game of cat and mouse with Itchy & Scratchy in “The Terror of Tiny Toon.” Finally, in “Starship Poopers,” Maggie's actual father is revealed to be an alien, leading to a spot on the esteemed Jerry Springer Show. Guest starring Regis Philbin, Kathie Lee Gifford, Jerry Springer, Ed McMahon and Robert Englund as Freddy Kruger.

5F19 When You Dish Upon A Star

WRITER: Richard Appel DIRECTOR: Pete Michels
Keeping Hollywood secrets proves difficult for Homer when he scores a personal assistant job for the husband and wife team, Alec Baldwin & Kim Basinger. Also guest starring Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.

    AABF02 D'oh'in in the Wind

[B][I]WRITER: Donick Cary DIRECTOR: Mark Kirkland and Matthew Nastuk
Homer sets out to determine what his middle initial stands for, but in the process, delves into the old free-spirit ways of hippies, inspired by his mother's radical past and former associates. Guest starring George Carlin as Munchie and Martin Mull as Seth.

    AABF03 Lisa Gets An A

WRITER: Ian Maxtone-Graham DIRECTOR: Bob Anderson
In discovering the joy of video gaming, Lisa neglects to study for her upcoming test, which she later relents to cheating upon in order to pass. But when the resulting grade raises the school's state average and qualifies it for financial aid, the intendance forces her to cover up all wrong- doing. Meanwhile, Homer raises a baby lobster to beat the high store prices of adults.

AABF04 Homer Simpson in "Kidney Trouble"

WRITER: John Swartzwelder DIRECTOR: Mike B. Anderson
On behalf of Homer's infamous ignorance, Grampa Simpson falls victim to a textbook kidney blowout. But when Homer steps up to offer a donor kidney, he quickly finds himself suffering from a much more common phenomenon: cold feet.

    AABF05 Mayored to the Mob

WRITER: Ron Hauge DIRECTOR: Swinton O. Scott III
When Homer rescues Mark Hamill and Mayor Quimby from a rowdy mob of sci-fi fanatics, he is appointed the mayor's new bodyguard. But after convincing Quimby that he needs to stop Fat Tony's mob from selling rat's milk to the town's schools, the mayor's life is placed in jeopardy. Also guest starring Joe Mantegna as Fat Tony and Dick Tufeld as the Robot.

    AABF06 Viva Ned Flanders

But when the tickets turn out to be counterfeit, Homer must consult his cunning in finding a way into the stadium. Guest starring Fred Willard as Wally, Troy Aikman, Rosie Grier, John Madden, Dan Marino, Pat Summerall, Dolly Parton and Rupert Murdoch.

    AABF09 Homer to the Max

WRITER: John Swartzwelder DIRECTOR: Pete Michels
When the new television show, “Police Cops,” premiers with a savvy character holding Homer's full name, the real-life Homer enjoys mock-stardom en masse. But when the show is retooled to give the character a Gomer Pyle-like facade, Homer changes his name to Max Power to escape the laughing and taunts of fellow townspeople. Guest starring Ed Begley, Jr.

    AABF11 I'm With Cupid

WRITER: Dan Greaney DIRECTOR: Bob Anderson
As Kwik-E-Mart convenience store proprietor Apu showers his wife with glowing, outrageous Valentine's Day gifts, the other husbands of Springfield are made to look bad in his shadow. Not much to speculate on yet. I'm sure this release will be the Bart head though, it just seems to fit for some reason.

Yes, because the other 4 heads have already been done.

I will probably not buy this and ultimately get it as a present next Christmas.

I'll be getting this set for sure. There are some very decent episodes here. BTW, I'm interested what the standard packaging will be. So far for the theme of the head sets we've had who shot Mr.Burns, movies, photo albums, and music.
she didnt exactly read shrek the 3rd, which apparently exists as some sort of companion book for a pixar movie. no, this would probably take several minutes (perhaps 10), and would have ultimately depricated the shrek 3 cinematic experience

she merely looked at the book

she saw it, perhaps in the childrens section of a barnes & noble, registered it in her mind as being in existance, and filed it away for later as the subject for a post on BOOKS YOUVE READ. only she just looked at it. and it was shrek 3

in a way its the saddest post ive ever read

I highly doubt I'll get this set, maybe If I see it go down to a very, very, very cheap price, I'll consider it, but it'll only be for a few episodes, phil hartmans last apperance, and commentaries involving classic era writers, rich appel and david cohen. (these reasons do sort of crossover) who are always entertaining on commentaries.
But no more after this, even if some Jean seasons are better.

This is the season where I went from "the show isn't as funny as it used to be" to "the show has gotten really bad." Still, I'll get this set because I'm a completionist, I want to hear the commentaries, and there are a handful of great episodes scattered about.

  11. #11

This set still has a few good episodes and I always seem to enjoy the commentaries. However, I may choose to watch some episodes only with commentary since I have seen all the episodes on this set and some are really bad. I also will get it because I too am a completionist. However, when season 11 comes I will probably ask for it for X-mas because I have no desire to spend my own money on it.

Can't Wait... this will be the first season that I haven't seen every episode a millions times. Until now (and since season 7), it has only been about 2 or 3 episodes a season I haven't seen a ton of times.

I totally agree here, I'm getting it so I have the whole collection when they're all released. Even if they have considerably decreased in quality since season 9 (or even 8 in some peoples' opinions) I'm still going to buy every season. I still think they're hilarious.

Can't wait for this season. Although us Brits will have a much longer wait.

Season 10 is at least funny and worth watching until "Make Room for Lisa", after which the show really was shit. Yeah I'll get this.

What the heck? That looks just like something out of season 3 from Anivision. Seriously, look at Homer's eyes and mouth.

Anyway, I'll be picking up season 10. It's not quite as solid as season 9, but it's still very funny and some of my favorites are on there, like "Viva Ned Flanders", "Sunday, Cruddy Sunday", "Make Room For Lisa" (I don't care about Homer's characterization in this episode- it's got TONS of hilarious lines and gags), "They Saved Lisa's Brain", and "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo". In fact, there are very few episodes I hate from that season.

Season 11+, we'll see. That's when it really started to go downhill for me.

I don't see why everyone keeps saying that the series went downhill after season 10 or whatever season, because I just didn't think that the episodes ever started to decline at all. I didn't really take the episode quality that seriously, I just like to sit down and watch them because I always find whatever episode to be funny.

I will be buying this as snoon as it comes out here. I guess we have a Simpsons Movie to look foward to before this season gets released onto DVD, that kinda puts it into perspective how far away it is...

I'm getting it because I'm a completist snob. I'm guessing this will be out in July to tie in to the movie.

I'll probably get this season (there are just enough enjoyable episodes), but not before I get all the DVD's for Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Office. I do plan to get all the Simpsons DVD's because sometimes I actually get an itch to watch a particular episode from new seasons.

  22. #22

Well i'll get it too, because i want the integral of the show. I just had the season 8, now i wait season 9 in France

    Yeah we get it thanks.

Obviously some people don't find the later seasons funny. You talk as if quality and humour are somehow mutually exclusive.
