So now that we've been given the full details of the box set, including the character design, what do you guys think the standard box will look like? Like what does everbody think lisa will be up to on the front cover?

big edit: just found this on play.com

Great but without pictures of anything...
Notoriety for whatever reason, never seems to benefit the noted, only the 'notees'

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this on the S9 commentaries:

The Last Temptation of Krust - Matt Groening, Mike Scully, George Meyer, Ron Hauge, Donick Cary, Yeardley Smith, Mike B. Anderson, Jay Leno
One of the few who still enjoys new episodes of The Simpsons.

Did anyone notice on the extra's page at tvshowsondvd.com that one of the Bonus features is "A Riff from Matt Groening"? "Riff" is a musical term referring to a repeated chord or melodic figure. Perhaps this means the standard packing will have a musical theme, featuring Lisa and her saxophone in the foreground? Possibly to do with the episode "Lisa's Sax" on this set? Sounds interesting. I'm predicting the "window" to be the "bell" part of a saxophone.

Just noticed the deal about Swartzwelder on a commentary. Now, no matter what, I have to get this set. Somehow I doubt that this can be possible, but I have to know. I'm getting exited just thinking about hearing Swartzwelder.

Uh...why does it say Schwartzwelder there instead of Swartzwelder? Who thinks they just found a guy with that last name and screwed us all?

^Well, they also got Dan Castellaneta's name wrong on one of the commentaries, so Swartzwelder's misspelling isn't an idle incident. Therefore, that implies that there are a few typos, and, to be honest, Schwartzwelder is a pretty reasonable misspelling, so I don't think it's a scam.

swartzwelder finally does a commentary and its on "the cartridge family"? its a great episode, but hardly the one i would expect him to break his silence on.... but i suppose those who have been praying for this should not complain! i cannot wait to hear it....
yes, the mispelled name is interesing. but it is not me, as far as i know.

I love the extra feature listing. S9 has some of my favorites (like Lisa the Simpson) on it, so I'm eagerly awaiting this set.

The Cartridge Family with Commentaries by: Matt Groening, Mike Scully, Yeardley Smith, John Schwartzwelder!!, Pete Michels, George Meyer, Ian Maxtone-Graham, Donick Cary, Ron Hauge
The commentaries should actually be fairly enjoyable. The O&W and J&R episodes only have two or three people, but looking at all the Scully ones they have a shitload of writers appear on them, especially the Cartridge Family one, and it just seems weird people like Matt Selman would appear on The Trouble With Trillions, or Ron Hauge on Trash of the Titans, etc, but I guess it's explainable that they did the Trillions one on the same day as Natural Born Kissers, etc, which would explain Matt Selman on it.

Looking at how full of writers some of the commentaries are, gets me, really quite excited for it. George Meyer's on a lot of them, he usually has intresting things to say. And it's nice to have a bonus commentary.
And it'll be nice to hear Oakley & Weinstein for the last time and Dave Mirkin again.
Although, I have an excitment quashing theory on Swartzwleders appearnce, maybe he sits in the room, but doesn't say anything.

This is excellent news. I can't wait! Hopefully the Simpsons Movie sneak peak'll be new stuff, but if not that's fine too. It'll be great to hear Swartzwelder on a commentary.
she didnt exactly read shrek the 3rd, which apparently exists as some sort of companion book for a pixar movie. no, this would probably take several minutes (perhaps 10), and would have ultimately depricated the shrek 3 cinematic experience

she merely looked at the book

she saw it, perhaps in the childrens section of a barnes & noble, registered it in her mind as being in existance, and filed it away for later as the subject for a post on BOOKS YOUVE READ. only she just looked at it. and it was shrek 3

in a way its the saddest post ive ever read

The "bell" part of a saxophone is the opening at the bottom of it. If you look at this photo, you should have an idea of what I'm talking about.

My belief is that's where the "window" of the standard box will be. I'd really like a musical theme, possibly to do with "Lisa's Sax" or "All Singing, All Dancing" (hopefully the former; the latter was a clip show. I hate clip shows.)

I'm glad to see Bill Oakley is back for the handfull of episodes he and Josh did. We really need everyone responsible for The Principal and the Pauper to explain themselves.

Nah, to "riff" on something is a figure of speach, it means to talk about something repeatedly (like in music a riff repeats). So I doubt its got anything to do with music. They just change the name of Matts message every season, like last time it was a "Memento From Matt".

I'm pleased about the UK release date - that gives me just the right amount of time to go through the S8 DVD before I get my hands on the S9 DVD!

  28. #148

Maybe they said to John Swartzwelder "this is your last chance to commentate on a good season?"

I doubt it. None of the staff have ever admitted the show has gone downhill.

    Harry Shearer has.

And I didn't notice James Earl Jones, that is good news, he has a great voice!
