I was thinking the same thing here, except I just thought ok what if the 200th episode part of the all access pass is maybe something on the outside shrink wrap, this is the only thing that could be the window in my opinion. And WOW worst head package ever hope that's not final cause that is boring and I would be ashamed to have it on my shelf...glad I've stuck w/ the standard packages. Still disappointed that this one here is about the same color as season 3's package. Where're my green orange and yellow(possibly saving for season 10?) Boxes too much blue/purple/purpleish pink, turquoise there. Change it up fox designers.

Thematically it's a bit similar to Season 7's box. I like it better than Season 8's though.

I'm guessing the cutout will be where the 200th episode ticket thing is.

I was thinking, the cutout may be Lisa's eye, and when you get the inner box out, the picture on that will be of her playing her saxophone or something (it works, since she's holding her saxophone on the outer box).

Those are both terrible. I'm realy disappointed with the standard. No cut-out. Well, not that I can see. 200th episode is a terrible theme and is really just a rehash of Season 7's movie premiere. Boring colour. Too close to 6 and 7. Need some brightness like dz_d said. Some oranges, a nice bright green. Not too happy.

Okay boxes, not great, but okay.

But what is Cecil the bouncer doing on the alt. box? Isn't he a season 13 character?
It's still good! It's still good!

  6. #186

Maybe the quality of the box art is going to start reflecting the quality of the episodes :P

Yeah, but remember Homer had the crayon in his brain in the S6 head box. I think the DVD designers are looking on the series as a whole, rather than only what has happened up to that particular season. The average viewer would want to see the crayon, for example, because it would always have been there, even in S6. And when the complete collection (all 19+ seasons) is released, people will want all the episodes & artwork to match up.

On the boxes themselves, I think there actually is a hole on the regular artwork. If you look at the regular box in close-up, Lisa's right eye (our right) is a slightly different shade of white than her left eye.

Agreed about the head packaging being the worst yet, it looks like Lisa has a beak. Either have no mouth or all the mouth, don't have half and half.

And also agreed about the theme being too close to S7, and the colour being too close to S3.

Oh well, I'll still get the Lisa head, since they're limited edition in the UK.

I agree with TheForbiddenDonut, I love that shade of purple and I actually think it's one of the better designs for the standard boxes. Shame I have to wait until January, but still it'll be well worth waiting for

Alternate is way too similar to season 7, but still nice(ish). I would guess that the 'window' is on the '200th episode' box (same as VJ, I just realised). Head looks alright, not as good as Maggie.

Good catch - notice how one eye has shading, and the other doesn't.

I'm starting to think everyone's right about the eye being the cut out. That's sad because unless something really cool is underneath, just the eye cutout will be fairly ordinary compared to the ones that have come before.

The Alternate box is pretty nice. The head box looks pretty lame.

Wow. I absolutely love both of those, much better than season eight. The Lisa head (which I'm getting because I always get the heads) looks very nice, but I just think the alternative box is fantastic. The box's colours (I'm Canadian, so yes it is spelled coloUrs) work, and the artwork looks fantastic. I also like the two characters on the side (although Cletus and Brandine don't fit in too well, its all in good fun). I can't wait until December...
she didnt exactly read shrek the 3rd, which apparently exists as some sort of companion book for a pixar movie. no, this would probably take several minutes (perhaps 10), and would have ultimately depricated the shrek 3 cinematic experience

she merely looked at the book

she saw it, perhaps in the childrens section of a barnes & noble, registered it in her mind as being in existance, and filed it away for later as the subject for a post on BOOKS YOUVE READ. only she just looked at it. and it was shrek 3

in a way its the saddest post ive ever read

We already had a purple box 2 seasons back and one in season 3.

According to Fox. HMV still sell the Homer heads.

What's everybody complaining about? Both of the boxes look fantastic and I for one like the colouring.

Ditto. The only thing I complain about is that we Aussies have to wait a few more months. Books and CDs come out at the same time worldwide, why not this?

  18. #198

I am officially confused if there's a hole in this one or not. Because Lisa's eye having the blue cast shadow on it is a standard thing when they do higher grade images than what you get during animation ala box art. And now I'm guessing no hole on this one, cause here's what the two images of box arts look mashed together. The innard should come close to what the outside of the head is again I assume. Judge for yourself

And even though this'll be the fourth season released since the crap head cases started showing up I'm thinking of going back and seriously working on my couch gag alternate box project again.

I hate both boxes. I think that having the 200th episode on the front is just tacky. A sticker is ok, but as part of the artwork, I mean why? Do they realise this set isn't quite as good so they have to try and sell it based on that? We didn't have this for the 100th episode so why now? Does this mean we will have this for the 300th and 400th episodes as part of the box design on those sets too? I damn well hope not, but then again if we don't this set will just stick out and look odd...

The picture of Lisa isn't the best, the theming is too close to Season 7's, the color isn't that great either and why on earth do we have Brandine on the spine? I could just about understand Cletus because the spine characters never have had much logic except for Season 8. We haven't had characters such as Moe, Kent, Nelson, Milhouse and countless others yet we have Brandine? I know that Mr Sparkle and Frank Grimes aren't exactly major characters either, but at least they were relevant to that set because they were from standout episodes in it...

I loved the Season 8 box art, the color, the spine characters, the cover, everything about it, but I'm really not a fan of this. Season 6 is still my fave box art, needles to say this IMO is the worst...

I think I see the difference in shading on 'her' left eye, but it's only really faint on the picture I've got. Also it would make sense as 'her' left eye does not have the same shadow around the top left of the eye. It would also make sense for the eye to be the 'window' as I don't see how the "200th Episode Backstage Pass" would work as a 'window'.

^ Mr. Sparkle being from a "standout episode", I can't agree with that. :silly:

Especially after this one, I can't understand how people even buy those crappy head boxes. It's practically all white and yellow! Well I actually disagree with everyone on the normal box art - when I saw it I actually said "Wow!" Not the best color choice perhaps, but I still like it except for one thing. Someone pointed this out on the season 7 set, why is the family all dressed up and Lisa's in her normal dress?

For me I can see "her" right eye, which has the shading, has actually got a a greyish tinge to it, while "her" left eye is completely white.

i think that the 200th episode bit could be the window because it is gold and so is lisa's sax. so mayb she could have the 200th engraved on to her sax n it may b her playin her sax on the inner box

I don't know why everybody is saying the standard cover is the same colour as season 3 because it's not, look:

This is going to sound really random, but did anyone notice that once again the rest of the family is dressed up, while Lisa is still wearing her normal red dress? I remember people discussing how in a couple other products where the rest of the family was dressed up for something, but Lisa was always in her everyday red dress.
that makes me stupid, and you a whore

That's the stock image of the season 3 case, Go grab it off your shelf it's a more vibrant color than that...and ya it's as close to the season 9 case as you could get. The spine anyway which is really the important part for sitting on a shelf.

I'm a bit dissapointed with the standard box, I don't really like the 200th episode thing. I don't have a problem with the head box though.

No I don't think Season 9 will be anything like Season 3's colour. My Season 3 is fairly similar to that image, just a little darker. The s9 image is noticably darker and richer, like all the DVDs since s6. If anything, s9 is gonna be like s7.

Sorry, but your logic doesn't work - if the colour of the S3 box is quite different than the stock image, why do you think that the box of S9 won't be different than the stock image.
