    R&R gap filler 3 of 7 (now)

Whoops, I forgot to start today's R&R thread. I'll watch the episode later and give my opinions then.

Great episode. Hilarious gags, good emotion, great Homer characterization. Because of a few bland moments, however, this only receives a 4/5.

I liked the episode, especially when Homer works for Apu and Apu's closing line, I also think it's a nice blend of humor and emotion, and I laugh every single time Burns aks Homer if he plans on eating the pony

4/5 Good stuff I feel the show works best when it blends solid emotion and good comedy.

For me, this was an average episode right up until Homer's line: "No, you were right the first time with that 'quick fix' idea."

    From there, above average.

    4/5
Bart: "Please don't call our parents!"
Chief: "I'm afraid I have to for hijinks like these. Hijinks - it's a funny word. Three dotted letters in a row."
    Eddie: "Is it hyphenated?"
Chief: "It used to be, back in the good old days, you know. Of course, every generation hyphenates the way it wants to. Then there's *NSYNC! What the hell is that? Jump in any time there, Eddie, these are good topics."

5/5 for me personally, I think that not only is it a classic Lisa AND a classic Homer story, but it really brings them together in a way that wasn't really previously seen.

Season 3 is probably my favorite season too.

Lisa's pony was a great episode -5/5. One of my favorite parts in this episode was when Homer was working at the Kwik-E-Mart, and Flanders was paying Homer while he was sleeping.

beautiful story with excellent gags although not as emotional as i thought it would be. It only had one or maybe two minutes of Lisa moping around the house, but it was more fast paced.

I love this type of episode, a very deep, emotional, even sad issue is played out in such a manner that it gives rise to a rash of hilarious scenes. Kind of similar to "The Last Temptation of Homer". Homer being sleep-deprived and over-worked was hilarious to watch, but it was the actual reason underneath: that Homer was working so that Lisa could have her cherished pony and to make up for his mistake, that really made the episode more than a bunch of funny jokes. High points are the ending, Homer's misery after the recital, and the dream sequence in the car. I really, really do love this episode, and I think it showcases Homer's character perfectly: stupid and thoughtless, but genuinely sorry and willing to do anything for his kids. A definite 5/5.

I think this episode marks the changing point in the show's style and transition into a more humor-based show. Great episode, anyway. A

a really funny and entertaining Homer/ Lisa episode.
Think it's nice to see that Homer tries to make Lisa happy,
and seeing him working for Apu is also pretty funny.

A nice episode with Homer buying Lisa a pony and then having to work to help get enough money to support it. Really a sweet episode. 4/5

I think it's pretty good - characteristics felt human while the humor that was done by Homer was not really much sacrificed at all. Story was pretty simple and standard and although it took a somewhat predictable step in the end... it was pretty touching. It takes certain format that is pretty conventional, but the episode uses several good intangibles for the background to make it good imo. Humor had its good moments, I love the dream montage, and I do have certain fond for horses also. I do not think the episode has certain flaw, but it kind of lacked... a wow factor to be a A or A+ episode for me. But fine episode nonetheless A-

As good as all the Homer-Lisa classic (and the majority of post-classic ones) episodes.
This one shows another point of view about them. Lisa is now the selfish and inconsiderate that ignores the damage, while Homer works hard to win his daughter's love.
Anyway, the characterizations are perfect. Lisa acts like this because she is a child, after all. And the episode could transmit that idea with a great efficiency. 10/10

I'll go with the consensus on this one -5/5. One of the best of the earlier seasons. The characterization of Homer was excellent, it had a sound plot and storyline and the humor was entertaining and enjoyable while there was just enough sentimentality and realism to keep it evenly balanced.

Love this episode; strong storyline with some very funny jokes. I always crack up when the kids hear Homer collapse in the other room when Homer and Marge are talking and Bart assumes the worst ("Oh, my God! She killed him!") and all of Homer's solutions to the pony problems, like keeping her in the garage. Over multiple viewings, as I grew older, it became obvious to me that Homer going to Moe's first was just a convenient plot tool to get the story moving. Homer's check-writing sequences felt very tired too, but Mr. Burns was very funny. Being a horse fanatic, I loved the "horse stuff"...but since when did Seattle Slew sire a pony? There were also no female KY Derby winners in the Slew era, but I think the joke was being alternate-universe.

Some of the "ignorant dad" plotting felt recycled, but it worked out by the middle. The emotion was sweet and believeable, but the ending was a little too happy for me. I hate literal "off into the sunset" endings. I did LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Slumberland sequences. Beautiful animation job in an episode that otherwise seemed to have rather off-key coloring/animation.

4\5 for an excellent episode with some slips for 'sappiness' and plot
