i was never really a fan of Michael Jackson and his music,
so a little bit hard to relate to this episode in a way.
Nevertheless, it's not bad and done in a good way.
Also the fact, that Homer gets in trouble because of his pink shirt is funny.

Really a solid episode from a solid season. 4/5
Very very funny episode. Michael Jackson did a great voice job, not at all afraid to poke fun at himself, and his role as a big white nut who thought he was Michael Jackson was a sign of the increasing creativity of the writers. And Homer getting in trouble because of his shirt? Priceless, and uncomfortably familiar. 4.5/5
"Attention Duelists!"

Back in the 90's I thought the white-Michael Jackson-idea very amusing. AND NOW?![]()
I don't like this episode. While I like the idea of Homer getting sent to a nut house, I don't like the execution of it. I'll just list the issues I have with this episode.
-Lisa's poem about her cat
-Homer sharing a room with someone who thinks he's Michael Jackson. I don't like the idea and I don't like Michael Jackson.
-The nut house plot is dropped off half way. Then, it goes into the whole town being mad at Bart, which never gets resolved.
-The rest of the episode focuses on a bland, unrelated Bart and Lisa conflict.
-Worst of all, the ending song gets stuck in your head! It's extremely annoying! It's been stuck in my head most of today and it is right now! GRRR!
Overall: 2/5

For those who caught tonight's special repeat.
Already seen many times over since 1991, this really stood out in the present FOX line-up. Not just because this is a great episode, but compared to the digital inks and paints and the HD format of the present-day episodes, the rawness of this episode has never been more apparent.
Written by Al Jean and Mike Reiss (who still needs to get back together), it had a clever commentary on human sanity, but was clouded by Michael Jackson's guest appearance which put on a good show of its own. The real MJ did have his problems, but Springfield crowd showed how he was that inspirational.
4.5/5

Oh, please....what's wrong, not Family Guyish enough? What the hell did you want? Have Marge find Homer acting like a crossdresser who spoons with powertools?
Shit...I'd better not give the current writers too many ideas.
Geezus, after not watching anything pre-Season 19 in almost 18 months, this episode was jarringly slow-paced, but no unenjoyable. After not seeing this in so long, it almost seemed like a drama with funny parts rather than a straight up comedy, and that's why I liked it so much watching it now.
5/5 and if you don't agree, Seasons 10-20 need love, too.

5/5, great episode
5/5 Just watched it today for the first time in a while. Leon (MJ) is a great character and this episode's plot is very clever and funny. It was beautifully written and I definitely got teary-eyed. It's amazing how an episode from so long ago, that I have seen plenty of times, can still leave me in awe. I don't feel sorry for anyone who can't find the genius in this episode. Fuck em'.
.
I still like it and it's a very good episode but it misses my top ten and maybe my top twenty; the episode was somehow better before and I guess it's less great now because after seeing it several times. I still really like the story, the humor and the guest star (MJ/John Jay Smith) did a very good job vocing his character who is still a memorable one timer and the "Happy Birthday Lisa" song is great.
A-

Another of my all-time favorites. It has an interesting plot and the story unfolded well, the dialogue was great and it contained the right mix of humor, sentimentality and emotion to embody what I used to like about the Simpsons in the classic era. Michael Jackson is perhaps my favorite guest star in the whole season's history and he gave a great performance -it also helped that his character was written well.
It's funny. My sister and I first this episode back when Michael Jackson was still considered a larger-than-life celebrity and we just couldn't believe that the producers of the Simpsons would be able to get Michael Jackson on the show. But we were convinced it was his voice and so we scanned the credits to see if we were right and it didn't have his name so we thought we'd got it wrong. It was only long afterward that we found out the truth
Anyway, 10/10 -and as it is, I don't think I'm giving the pure genius of this episode enough credit
Fun. The Simpsons did better but this is definitely memorable. Lots of decent humour with Homer in this one as well. 4/5

I enjoyed it..
if you want me, honey, baby, I'll be here
Too much sentimentality for my tastes, especially in that song at the end. Jackson's presence was integrated well and the episode made a suitably big deal out of a suitably big star (extra important in retrospect). Nothing really spectacular or awful about it other than what I just mentioned. I'd give it something in the B range.
This episode was more touching than funny. 3/5, simply because of the lack of jokes. Um, I don't really have anything else to say about this episode.Ranked number 53 in my top 150.
~I said fine. What part about sure don't you understand?~
Mental institution--great
Subplot--horribly contrived and unfunny, existed only because MJ wanted to write a song for Bart (song is admittedly good, even though the damn thing gets stuck in my head every time I watch the episode), and the buildup of "Michael Jackson's coming" never went anywhere, that time could have been better used for some more Homer hilarity at the institution
One of Season 3's weaker entries, although there really is some great stuff here (personally I just love the fact that Homer lets this mental patient walk around his house), hard for me to rate because if just a few changes were made this would be a great episode. As it stands, 12/15

An average episode with a great guest voice. As having only ever seen this episode knowing Michael Jackson as a white guy, the jokes surrounding that are very interesting. Bart and Lisa are very sweet in this and Homer at the mental institution was great
3/5
We got no food, we got no jobs, our PETS HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!
4/5. Very good episode, but not one of my favorites. Dog on fire, man breaking hip and baby with a nail gun would be very interesting to watch.

This was a pretty solid episode and being such a huge fan of Mikey he remains one of my favourites to ever guest star on the show. 'Lisa it's your Birthday' is a pretty clever and cool song as well and there are two lines in this episode that I love 'Joe's Crematorium. You kill 'em, we grill 'em.' and 'Joe's Taxidermy. You snuff 'em, we stuff 'em.'
4/5
Oh my great good God! Gentlemen, your attention please. I am detecting a gigiantic amphibious life-form, it's 80 meters long and it's heading this way. Oh good glayven it's on my shoe. It's a small frog, just get off, just get off there, just get out of it, get out of it. Stupid machine, oh wait a minute, this isn't the Monsterometer, it's the Frog-Exaggerator Mm-hai.
I laughed a lot, 5/5

meh. This episode starts out strong but once it get's to Michael Jackson parts it gradually goes down hill. Given there are still some funny parts---
"Bubbles, it's going to be a long night." However the whole thing at the end where it's revealed that Leon knows that he's not Michael Jackson seems like a weak resolution to the episode. I also cannot stand the song that Bart and Leon wrote for Lisa. Annoying as hell.
However the good:
the would be runner of Joe's Taxidermy
Crazy playing as the hold music for the mental institution
Lisa's poem is hilarious but I am glad Homer stopped her
Bart filling out the form "even the best of us have an accident some time."
The Rorschach sequence
And Homer's dealing with the agoraphobic
There is so much good in the episode and yet because of all the Michael Jackson junk...
3/5

An incredibly solid episode, with much emotion and laughs (Homer going hysterical over "woof! did anyone order a hot dog?"). Great guest star appearance from MJ.
All in all my favourite episode. A definite 5/5.
I'm not a fan of this episode. I never have been. 2/5

Stark Raving Dad: A-, 4.5/5, 9/10, Outstanding
Overrated episode but still very good. 4.5/5

I remember getting Season 3 on DVD about 7 years ago and man when I put this episode on and I had finished watching it, I absolutely praised it! When you get into Season 3 you're just entering the best age of the Simpsons. Season 3 was for a very long long time my favorite Season I had ever seen but when I ended up getting Season 7 that topped it just a little more.
The atmosphere in this episode is great and I love the voice of the guest star (the way he sang to Homer in the cell, the song he sang at the end of the episode to Lisa. He was phenomenal). I can't really ask for more than what they gave in this episode.
This is a very good episode. For me it's one of the best of the third season ! I give 4,3/5 to this great episode with the voice of M.J !

I think this episode is fair, but not great. I know absolutely nothing about Michael Jackson, though. The birthday song to Lisa is very sweet, though.
