    R&R: Stark Raving Dad

    R&R gap filler 2 of 8

Remember when they actually made good use of guest stars? This episode really shows it. Quite a few funny moments and not to mention a great song at the end. 5/5

5/5 "DOG ON FIRE, DOG ON FIRE!"

Tremendous episode and yeah I do love a guest star playing a character as opposed to a dumb cameo. Very funny episode, well paced, and a cute Bart and Lisa scene at the end with a good song.

"The strength of the show is the characters - that's the strength of any good show. Since they've gotten more mainstream, they keep wanting to go for the easy laughs, the stupid jokes. I think it's the wrong move, and an insult to the intelligence of the audience." - Yeardley Smith

The plot was a bit uneven, and it seemed that there was far too much time spent in incorporating Michael Jackson into the show than focusing on the fairly mediocre humor. Still, love the song and this was overall an enjoyable episode. 4/5

A touching episode, pretty lacking in jokes, I did like the referrences to "one Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest"

Good use of a guest star indeed. I liked it, the plot was a little uneven, still pretty nice over all. A-/4/5

The episode was good but the ending with the Lisa birthday song was so good that I gave it a 5/5 instead of 4/5.

4/5. It was funny how the whole town got really hyped about "Michael Jackson" coming to Springfield. Oh, and I loved the song. So cute! "Lisa, it's your birthday... Happy Birthday, Lisa!"

    5/5 Top Episode!

Before I was a fan I always seemed to remember this episode. Probably because it's so different from any other episode of the show I've seen (apart from the Simpson's new guest plot). Although I'm a Michael Jackson fan, I loved this episode because of the plot, humor, MJ references and the song. It may not be cutting-edge comedy, but it's a classic vintage episode and I never get tired of seeing it.

I'd give it a 3.5/5. It was a good episode but it's nothing compared to the other season 3 episodes. It's still okay.

Kind of confusing the first time i saw it but its the beginning of the best season of the simpons.

Agree with that, Reservoir Dog. Just a fantastic episode; solidly and tightly plotted throughout with great lines ("I'm not popular enough to be different") and more subtle satire ("Remember that absentee ballot"), and, of course, the song. Outstanding ep. A

    This episode is a classic - 5/5

Since my first viewing of this one, I have loved it very much, from the start to the end, it's non-stop entertainment and humor, this is an episode which I will never forget.

I really dig both the plot and the touching, sweet and sour subplot about Lisa's Birthday, I feel bad for her when she sits all alone with Maggie by the table, singing Happy Birtday to herself. The Happy Birtday Lisa song is just great and it was nice to join both plots in the end like that, and I think that MJ brings much to this episode with his character Leon Kompowsky.

I always thought it was a bit weak for its era. Maybe because I've seen it too many times because it seemed to be constantly on TV at one point. I like everything that doesn't involve the Michael Jackson character.

A very good episode, not the greatest thoguh. The plot was pretty touching but it wasn't as great as some other episode of the season, the end was a plus though.

    Stark Raving Dad huh?

Well for one thing its definitely trippy watching this episode now knowing what becomes of Michael's image in real life (even more trippy is that this show still endures all this time now since then.) But that aside its definitely one of the better uses of a guest star. I will always prefer guest voices having a purpose other than just appearing, as in actually playing bonafide characters instead of themselves so much (although if done right the latter can be really funny too, but still it needs context.) Whats cool about this though is that its voice, playing a character...who is playing that voice. Well...for singing anyways for the legit voice but whatever the case it was cool.

This ep had a pretty simple but cool little message in it about looking past surfaces. All the way through to even how Lisa views Bart. (Yet another thing he's done for her. Tsk tsk Lisa, shame on you.:silly

I gave it a 4. Its one of those really wholesome episodes that you can only find in this particular early part of the show's life, even by the time season 5 rolls around.

It's okay. I find it utterly pathetic how they seem to bash Michael Jackson on the show nowadays, even though he's been a guest star on there.
