new trivia question again - http://springfield-connection.com

i'll stop calling these updates soon, i'm just trying to publicise it as much as i can ; ) and besides, it's nice to see at least some activity around here.
i would've made an update about the season 20 details, but i wanted to keep the halloween theme going through the month. i have to say though, the november update will be pretty chunky! ;D

my name's andy, and i have some websites. i think they're quite good.
take a look at nohomers' favourite episodes with the springfield connection episode guide
follow @springfieldconn on twitter or with drain

I stopped watching tv because I stopped watching OFF. I stopped watching OFF because I stopped letting myself pretend to like it after season 16. I stopped letting myself pretend because I smoked a lot of bud and lost interest in Simpsons Zip (and pretty much the whole interweb besides Wikipedia).

But I may have something up my sleeve...

    But I probably don't.

From a non-fan community-abstainer perspective, the following OFF sites are fun to visit (for those who don't know):
    - rubbercat.net/simpsons
    - simpsonsfolder.com
    - springfield-connection.com
    - baby-simpson.co.uk
    - mts.net/~davehall
    - lardlad.com

the springfield connection has lost its halloween design, and which means i've added a couple of things.
    - news archives, finally. let me know how they work ;D
    - refreshed drain: new design, slick twitter integration, and the community drain is no more. i've also given the drain tab on the homepage a lick of paint
    - new poll, classic clip and trivia question

i was hoping to have some things ready for this update, but they aren't. specifically an addition to the introduction page that makes it look much better and adds a nice new bit. but it hasn't been working/i haven't had time to fix it and so it'll probably drop sometime this month or early next. i'm always wanting to make more media, and hopefully that'll arrive in time for christmas too.

let me know your thoughts - some of these things are a bit technical and so i'd really like to check that they work properly! ; )

Great work Andy, love the archive effect. Just a note though, tried using chrome, and the archives just align to the left of the news upon visiting the site, and aren't hidden.
    Lucky there's a Family Guy...

yeah, i noticed that before. i think it was because i was using jquery to hide the box, and it was only hiding it once the page was hidden. added a tiny bit of code and it shouldn't appear at all anymore. cheers for pointing it out ; )

I just finished redesigning Simpson Crazy's episode guide. The main page is a work in progress, I just slapped it together from some old bits I had. But go inside the guide, and the layout's been made a lot cleaner.

    Thoughts welcome.

i've redesigned the characters page on tsc, but i haven't updated the site yet. i'm going to just stick it in with the christmas design update that will be coming in the next few weeks.
it's a new concept that i thought i'd try where it's much more visual than before - the main feature is the 'character carousel' that you can cycle through just by moving your mouse from one edge to the other. click on a character and their details will slide in underneath the carousel.
if you're not into doing that, then there's a big list at the bottom of the characters on the carousel, and you can just click the text link to view more information. there's also a view all button, which i think is handy, where all of the details are shown instead of just the character that you clicked.
seems to work fine for me in google chrome, and there aren't any problems with firefox, but ie has a couple of issues that i'm going to fix asap. there's a minor problem with the carousel that sporadically comes up but i'm actively looking for a fix for that.

enjoy, and i'd really like some feedback! ;D

Simpsonise has launched a new site and moved from WP.com

    Link

@HomerTheMoe: Your site looks worse in IE than FF but I still liked it. It's a good feature, however it lacked info with only about a paragragh per person and mates and families grouped.

Wow, really interesting effect you've got going there, love it.

Don't understand why that's a bad thing. At least it's original content.

Where's the content? If it's just a news site then fair enough I guess, though there are better places to get news (Simpsons Channel, Simpson Crazy as others might say , even NHC). Good luck with it though. Maybe now you're off a hosted WordPress you can make a proper design?

I bet no one has ever asked you any of the questions on the FAQ page. And this one says it all:

Do you get paid for making this website?
No, but neither do we spend money on it.
    Cheapskate

  21. #1341

It is meant to be news and content like Crazy. We have more content but we are improving our content from the old site the transfering it. The main post stated that.

I am no good at coding so I would hardly be able to code a site, and I don't earn any money at the moment so I can't spend anything.

New at BtOAO for November: Links page up with the remaining great sites (if I missed yours just drop me a PM), episode reviews, and 5 new pics.

    A tribute to Bart Simpson

You think THAT's bad? What about that time when I was turned into a Tetris block?

Nice work on the characters page, Andy. When I looked at it on my laptop the other day, I couldn't scroll all the way to the right (only went as far as Lenny/Carl). Seems okay on my desktop though.

I've been playing around with a few concepts, inspired by the "Identifying characters" thread. Check out a quick demo at http://www.simpsoncrazy.com/files/ca.../simpsons.html

It's a very rough "first draft", I will get a better picture and do all the characters properly. I'm interested to hear, which do people think is better - circle highlights over the heads (on the right), or the more 'fitted' shapes (left)?

    definitely the fitted shapes

  27. #1347

I think the circles look better

  28. #1348

If you clean up the fitted characters version, I'd prefer that one.

The problem is, the fitted shapes are done "point-to-point" so you end up with dozensof points for each character - maybe hundreds if you do it accurately. With upwards of 400+ characters on the poster it's gonna take a long time and/or crash the browser when it loads. I think I'll stick with the circles to preserve my sanity (as much as possible).

Yes, well if that was the case I would have said go with the circles.
