^ Nice update, andy. I don't know which are the new wallpapers, but they all look great. Can't wait for v2

Updated the script - now 25% completed! I've got back into a bit of a rhythm with it so shouldn't be too long before it's all done.

Taken down the Australian page for about 2 weeks while I'm doing a mojor update on it.

Wow, mega update Adam! Good to know there's still life in LETS

BTW if the retirement of your contests is due to the time involved in marking, I'm using a nice way of running mine on SC that I made myself - http://www.doheth.co.uk/codelair/php-mysql/scoreboard - never takes me more than about 20 minutes for a new contest (including deciding on an episode and recording the audio clip).

its also the fact that choosing grabs for grabmatch, writing a cryptic quote, and finding an item for lost and found was too time consuming/annoying for me to be continuously doing. if the contests come back i'd definitely be dropping one or two of them

Changed around the navigation a bit, you can now get to the countries using the flags at at the top of the page.

Added Czech Republic as the newest European publishers, they're just doing the paperbacks like Finland.

Added titles for the next 4 Italian Simpsons paperbacks.

Rearranged the links page a bit.

Still working on the Australian page.

phpBB? ewww! Oh well. Your funeral.

Although, is there any point for a new Simpsons forum these days?

^I don't know, there's really only NHC left now (mt2 only has a small Simpsons part)

Simpson Crazy update! Converted a bunch more pages over to PHP, reorganised a bit more, and coded a new javascript menu from scratch. It's at the top, and is essentially the same as what it will be in any redesign that comes to fruition.

the menu operates well, you probably should have held off launching it until an actual new design though because it looks so out of place.

and simpson crazy has always had the WORST navigation, i can never find anything on the site. now there's essentially FOUR different navigations! (the menu bar, the quick links, the monopoly cards, and the irrelevant home/email/radio one). granted, your new navigation is the only one i'll ever need to use, but yeah, it's always confused the hell out of me i can't imagine how a less-intelligent person copes with it.

PHPBB2 sucks... Even for a free forum.

the simpson crazy menu doesn't work for me

  26. #1046

I know it's not the communities most popular choice of board. But I like it, my favourite forums use it, and hopefully the average user will like. Why do you think it sucks?

Poor security and large number of hacked forums and general ugliness maybe?

If you are *really* (and I stress that) want to use phpBB, upgrade to phpBB 3 ASAP. Though there is an alternative package, that I happen to be a team member for blah blah blah

Yeah phpBB sucks for security. I know Gary has a boner for SMF :X but vBulletin is pretty good too.

Heh, you make some good points. The "quick links" is meant to be the main menu, with the "menu" part being less content-oriented pages. One of the designs had better labelling but I haven't been able to find it for ages, so it maybe got deleted or something.

Essentially the whole site is a mess which I'm trying to clean up bit-by-bit. I have about 4 different sets of files used to include parts of the design, and at least 2 separate stylesheet files containing the same content

Can you be more specific? Any parts in particular not working (eg opening, closing)? Which browser are you using? (Also, if you have Javascript turned off, you should get a "sitemap" page.)

phpBB 3 is said to have better security than phpBB 2 does, but I'm still not convinced.

Yes, I know I've got a thing for promoting SMF and I got a free (almost) trip to America out of it for being on their team. But I do agree that vBulletin is quite good, but in this sort of community, the only thing that lets it down is its price (and it's admin center :P). It's geared more towards commercial-type websites than fan sites.
