Season Eight Best Episode: Finals (Poochie Wins)

"The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show" again. Few episodes are as sharp or as funny as it, and it almost on its own justifies the purchase of the next DVD for me.

These episodes are all pretty terrific, but I'm going to go with Homer's Enemy again.

This time around, I'm going to side with Vs. the Eighteenth amendment.

It may not be one I voted for before, but among these its one of my most loved episodes.

I've sided with Homer's Phobia again. I've justified that choice elsewhere.

I'll have to go with YOMT, although I haven't seen these episodes in so long, it's basically a stab in the dark.

The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show - It's one of my favourite episodes ever. Realistic, hilarious and a perfect characterization of Homer. A+

El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer

You can't compare this episode to anything else...it stands on it own. Surreal, funny and sweet story -everything I could want to watch all in one. Top episode!

El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer

It is the "Where's Opera, Doc?" for the Simpsons. It's worthy of much greater appreciation, even with the sappy ending.

Great list, probably the top 7 of the season, The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show wins this one, it's one of my favority Itchy and Scratchy episodes, and that says a lot

  14. #14

Quite a spread of votes this time I see, this will be interesting to watch. I still have to go with The Springfield Files, though I loved Homer's Phobia and The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie show.

    YOMT

This has always been at the top of my list, not only for season 8, but it is easily my favorite episode of the Simpsons!

    You Only Move Twice

Why would it be any other episode.

she didnt exactly read shrek the 3rd, which apparently exists as some sort of companion book for a pixar movie. no, this would probably take several minutes (perhaps 10), and would have ultimately depricated the shrek 3 cinematic experience

she merely looked at the book

she saw it, perhaps in the childrens section of a barnes & noble, registered it in her mind as being in existance, and filed it away for later as the subject for a post on BOOKS YOUVE READ. only she just looked at it. and it was shrek 3

in a way its the saddest post ive ever read

I once again voted for el viajero misterios, for the great story, funny jokes, amazing animation during Homer's chili trip, and the man in black as the space coyote, plus I loved the Homer/Wiggum chili feud

i went with homer vs. the 18th amendment...but really you can't go wrong with almost all of those picks...

edit: i forgot to mention i actually played this episode in its entirity during a grade 12 presentation i did on the rise of organized crime due to prohibition

The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show 10/10

Satire at it's finest this one nailed everything wrong w/ changing show formats and even the fans were un-spared. This episode had teeth and was great fun as well.

Since this aired "Where's Poochie?" is my line describing any new/cool character added to a show or book and any and all Mary Sue characters in writing. When an episode adds to your vocabulary that means it really stuck with you.

"The strength of the show is the characters - that's the strength of any good show. Since they've gotten more mainstream, they keep wanting to go for the easy laughs, the stupid jokes. I think it's the wrong move, and an insult to the intelligence of the audience." - Yeardley Smith

    Springfield Files

I have to vote this one here. It's another 'Homer-being-alone-from-others' episode, but the subject called alien myth was good enough to make it interesting, Moe and others carrying a dolphin gag was good, the ending was a little weak, but good episode.

    Homer's Enemy came close though

I had decided not to vote this poll, but now I realize that my vote can decide the fate of these episodes. So I'll vote The Itchy ... show, because it's just better than You only move twice.

EDIT: Blue Phoenix, can you explain to me the meaning of your signature? I didn't get it.

I assume you mean the code at the top of his signature. This link should explain it.

why does everyone like the springfield files so much?
it's ok and all, but still...

^It's not a particularly emotional, satirical, or ambitious episode, but it makes me laugh. It's a just-for-laughs episode, and it succeeds quite well in that regard. It's probably a matter of taste, but I've always found the humor in this episode to be well above average, especially the Friday plans of the town and the tests that Moulder and Scully administer. The characterizations of the cast are also nicely done, and the plot doesn't stall in the third act and instead quickly gets to the following Friday evening so things can get explained. Like Last Exit to Springfield, it relies almost solely on comedy to entertain, and for some that makes it great, for others, not so much.

The Springfield Files and Homer Vs. The Eighteenth Amendmant are both in my top ten, but HVTEA is a few spots higher.
