Rate & Review: Lady Bouvier's Lover

While compiling threads for the R& R archive, this is the one S5 episode i couldnt find a thread for. So what better reason to make one!

I think this is a brilliant episode. Its an unexpected plotline, and there's some really great jokes in there too. 4.5 from me.

I find this episode very funny, but it seems a bit unbalanced in that it involves a character we know very well coupled with someone we have rarely seen. Anyways, still quite a good episode, overall. 4/5.

Patty and Selma episode? They only show up for the first 3 minutes! I take it you don't know what it's about...it's the one where Marge's mother falls in love with Grampa, but then she ends up falling for Mr. Burns, and they nearly get married.

I quite liked it. One of the most underrated episodes IMO. It had it's moments, and the ending was pretty good. 4/5.

It certainly is not the best of Mirkin or even the best of Season 5. But to its credit, it successfully represents the great aspects of Mirkin Era. It does what the best Season 5 episodes did : a light-hearted character story in which the characters while remaining likeable are moved into the background, while episode derives humour from creative parodies and homages, subtle and not-so subtle references to pop-culture which do not seem gratuitous in any way and some great ingenious surreal gags with unexpected twists. It is chock full of laughs : from references to "The Graduate" and Jimmy Durante to plain nasty old people jokes to Homer's legendary reimagining his children as "real people" and some well-observed meta-jokes about animation fans collecting animation cels. Aged characters like Grampa and Mr. Burns really ge to shine in this one but all other characers are well-utilized as well. A well-done episode. A-

all the little side jokes were funny
I also enjoy episodes where secondary characters get a lot of use.

Loved the ending with "The Graduate" parody, including re-worded "Sounds of Silence" music to take the episode out. Ingenious use of the characters as usual. 4/5.

4/5, it was a good episode, one of the top Grandpa episodes.
Kids, let me tell you about another so-called ``wicked'' guy. He had long hair and some wild ideas. He didn't always do what other people thought was right. And that man's name was...
I forget. But the point is... I forget that, too. Marge, you know what I'm talking about. He used to drive that blue car?

    I think it's a really good episode.
Great to see Mr. Burns and Grandpa in one episode in a leading role together again. Story is also pretty funny and especially Grandpa is great.

I still love this episode. It's surprisingly hysterical considering the borderline-depressing subject matter. The Ross Perot bit leaves me rolling every time. It's just great comedy. 5/5

An underrated episode. Funniest parts are the armor hot dogs bit and that lady that Grampa thought was Marge's mom.

I don't like this episode too much. It certainly preserves the classic season 5 charm, and I like to see a little development for Abe, but this episode mixed some awfully lame jokes (the Chicken Tonight song, and the unauthorized imitations) with a pretty poor storytelling (I don't find credible the way Lady Bouvier starts going out with Burns). Of course, it has some emotion, nice characterization and an acceptable-not really good-number of good jokes, but it stands out in my list as a low point from the first nine seasons. 6.5/10

B+ episode, some good Grandpa and Burns moments, still I think it's one of season five's weake episodes

    underrated and sweet.

I love the scene where Grandpa's trying to yell down the phone and the whole resolution wedding scene.

Speaking of strange ratings, why do you feel 'Moaning Lisa' is the 6th best Simpsons episode and Lisa the Iconoclaust is the greatest Simpsons episode of all 496 ever created?

    I'm just asking him here.

Darren Erg, remind me why you rated 'Holiday of Future Passed' 1/5?

What is exactly the problem at saying Lisa The Iconoclast is the greatest Simpsons episode? I think it's a completely normal and recommendable reaction.

Well, I haven't watched it in a lot of time so I guess my opinion is still valid. Maybe the only thing is that I will have grown some love for the ending, because of the The Graduate reference.

I fail to see what is so strange about this

The premise of this episode is kind of disturbing, but it is otherwise a pretty good episode. 7/10
