I like how it faithfully followed the source movie it was parodying. The eerie movie soundtrack and all. I laughed more at this than the Sinatra Jr ep that aired before it.
Much better than the last few episodes.
Two things:
-They have GOT to cut out the extended conversation/rant joke. It stopped being funny a long time ago.
-In a way, the Meg bashing here worked better than it has been in recent weeks, but there's still some work that needs to be done. I really could've done without the end gag.
A mostly funny episode. Closer to the Family Guy spirit.
4.0/5

I'd consider this to be one of the very, VERY few classics of new "Family Guy." Only problem I had with the episode was that they aired it in the wrong month; it should've been a Halloween episode.
Loved the faithful Poltergeist parody. Many jokes actually worked tonight and that's why this episode gets a 4/5 from me. Feels like a classic.
yep.

Good to finally have a Halloween-themed episode of FG kind of, but this episode gets a minus 1 for the horrible Dick Cheney cutaway and the useless and uncomfortable Don Knotts joke...
EDIT: Forgot. Best gag in FG since season premiere was Peter tearing off his face to reveal Hank Hill. "Heheheheh...propane"...
Really? That was probably my favorite gag. Haven't you ever seen a Don Knotts vehicle from the 60s?Originally Posted by homer5000

"SAY WHAT AGAIN. I dare you, I double dare you, motherfucker".
Ah, so they can write decent episodes still.
I guess this episode is like "the bomb" where it doesn't quite fit in with the regular continuity, or maybe it does...wait family guy doesn't have a continuity of a sort. Anyway a lot of weird Halloween like stuff happen in this episode and it was indeed a breath of fresh air for the stale of late show.
It still had its problems, extended rants and all that, but the jokes where mostly funny and the story and character humor was very well done. Plus they finally did some anti meg jokes that were funny.
Some stuff I enjoined was, Hank Hill, Lord of the rings bit with Hubert (think thats his name), the crap Peter was doing with the skull and the gay guy talking to the spirits. There was also a lack of cut aways that I thought really helped the episode and left more room for plot and I wish they would keep them down to this sort of standard in the future.
Felt for the most part like a season 2-3 episode, 4/5

Close. It's "Herbert."Originally Posted by Gibbles

4.5/5 - Classic Family Guy, even though it should have been a Halloween special IMO.
Family Guy episodes are trying to have more of a plot now and it feels a little off for some reason.
Still, it was funny and the references were really accurate to the point where the cutaways felt even more pointless than usual.

A lot of people feel that this was a Halloween story. That's sorta how I felt about Season 3's FG Viewer Mail #1.
Definitely the best of the season, maybe of the return. 4/5

Excellent episode, best in a long time. Lot's of great gags and a great LOTR parody, perhaps the only appearance of Herbert I've enjoyed. Had I actually seen Poltergeist I may have liked it even more but as it stands, it's still 5/5.
And I'll admit when that hand thing first came out of the tv I shit myself.
Peter Griffin: "The grown up in me likes the prospect of fun,
but the kid in me is suicidal over what a fat bastard I will become."
Sideshow Bob: "Just the thought of all that raw, surging power
makes me wonder why the hell I should care!"

great. lots of funny moments, gags, jokes. i liked stewie talking aBout Friends, i enjoyed the jackass parody. Stew-O. It was a faithfull parody of an unfunny thing Bam Margera did.
i also liked the liBrarian, and Stewie "laughing" at her unfunny jokes

3/5 B-
Not bad, not great. I like how it was a unique Family Guy.

some great references (phil collins, jackass, lotr), plus the fact the plot stayed pretty true to the movie. family guy does a lot better when there's an actual plot not bogged down by too many cut-aways
I laughed out loud for 5 minutes at the fast-talking high-pants show. I voted 3 before I remembered that bit, I would've gone for 4.
