    NHC Champs: 19 Seasons!

Fox has officially announced it has renewed The Simpsons for Season 18 and Season 19, keeping it on TV screens until at least 2008!

Fox has officially announced that it will renew King of the Hill for an 11th season, even though the show halted production more than a year ago, says Variety. Also, The Simpsons has been given a greenlight for its 18th and 19th seasons -- keeping TV's longest-running entertainment series on the air through at least 2008.
Also, the article suggests the 400th episode will air on 20th May 2007.

    http://comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=13700

This stems fears that the show may be coming to an end in a recent Cartwright article and confirms Fox has ordered all the seasons the cast agreed to make after the strike in 2004. Also, it confirms a 400th episode...and beyond.

I know some members here may not jump for joy at this news, but, as far as I'm concerned...

Woohoo! Two more years! Two more years!

I thought SNL was longer running then the Simpsons. Alas, I never doubted that they'd renew it, personally I think it'll last beyond season 20, there's no financial reason why it can't.

Sounds great! The show may not be what it once was, but it is still worthy.

The Simpsons is the longest running show in its format (ie a sitcom). Saturday Night Live is technically the longest running comedy, but Fox twist the facts round a bit to make it look as though The Simpsons is a the longest running series.

Well we knew we were getting season 18 anyway since it will pretty much have been produced or at least, mostly written and currently being animated. But yeah I think at this point they might as well get to 20 seasons for the sake of doing 20 seasons and then probably best to stop unless it improves dramatically. And so this is another step towards it.

I have to think 500 episodes is a milestone they would like to reach before calling it quits, maybe even more so than getting to the 20th season mark. But that could just be me.

    None the less, great news.

    Great !
I knew (had a good feeling) that S18 was gonna be done, but S19? even better!

Hey, as long as Fox keeps making pointless milestone goals for the show, it could be on forever.

Hey, then those book titles would be true...

    Anyway, awesome news.

It need's a new showrunner now if the show is to get anywhere near its old standards, last year was a very good season and the peak of the Jean era, this season (from what ive seen) has been a huge dissapointement, so hopefully the show will get a new runner for what i hope will be the last two seasons of 19 + 20.

Pretty much great news. I believe if they can just start keep episodes coming at the quality range of the last three episode than it will return pretty much to classic style. However, I am doubtful this will happen, but we can hope. Nontheless, I have a feeling the show will keep improving from an already pretty good year for the show(except the holdovers, they weren't that good.)

Hopefully it won't have to end till the actors die.

^No, it has to end before, don't you want a final episode? And as for the show, I doubt it, but I hope they can turn it around in two years.

That wont and should not happen. I would rather it end at like season 20-22 than have a cast member die and not have any closure.

When they renew a new season though, does EP get decided simultaneously?

I doubt it, otherwise Jean & Scully wouldn't have carried on as long as they did/have.

I'd like to see a fresh one for Season 19, or perhaps even 18, or the amount of 18 that hasn't been completed. I love Al Jean's writing, I love his humour, I think he has/was and will be a very good showrunner but they need a change in scenery.

i doubt the showrunner will change midway through season 18, if it does it will chnage at the end of production season 18, which will be about four or five episodes into season 19

If they try and get to 500 eps, we're guaranteed a season 22.

    22 seasons
    500 episodes

Sounds like a darn good legacy to me.
