2/5 I didnt like it much at all.
Lost Airs Wed. 10/9c on ABC!
Lisa is a nut, she has a rubber butt, every time she turns around it goes putt-putt!
A drop-off from the last couple, but still quite entertaining. For some reason, Homer pain gags go down better when set to "Powerhouse."
3,5/5.
And was that supposed to be Dave Thomas doing Bob Hope? If so, he can do a lot better. Or at least he used to be able to.
I chuckled a few times. The Flanders-English dictionary was funny. It was good to see Lisa having fun and not being "PC thug" Lisa, but I hate what they've done to Flanders. He was not originally a paranoid psycho. I guess their reasoning is becoming a widower made him this way, but I don't buy any of it, and wish they'd just bring Maude back and forget that whole mess ever happened, like they do with all kinds of other stuff.
Anyway, I gave it a 2.

Oh you better believe I'm a Flanders Man. Just not a Flanders fanboy.![]()
Even Flanders should have limits to his exposure.
Best of the season-bike jousting with brooms kicks ass!!
I thought one of the funniest jokes was when Homer was watching the "Insert DVD" screen on the TV.
2 hours?

I should probably add that I loved the joke when Bart was telling Rodd or was it Todd what the "meaning" of gay was. I was just a little prank on Bart's part that was classic

Allright, never again will I judge a show based on the little blurb published by Comcast, and the crappy promos Fox airs. An easy 5/5 for me, and one of the best (maybe the best) of season 17! I was laughing non-stop from beginning to end. The only thing that made me grimace was the mill sequence, but that did not seem to bother me quite as much as everyone else.
Every gag made me laugh. Homer's rubber duck, the church jokes at the beginning, what Mr. Burns would look like in hell, and of course everything about Rod and Tod. It was fun seeing Lisa having fun like an 8 year old, and this show has one of my new favorite lines.
Flanders: What did you really like about Marge.
Rod (?) She made us happy, not Church happy, real happy.
Seemingly Neverending Story was great, but this is better because it was the first really good "normal" episode in a while.
Willie:
I'm so drunk I can barely see
But it helps me get through another day
My stomach is filled with haggas and baght

Season 15
It was great seeing Maude again. Bart and Lisa jousting was really funny and showed how childish they are. I liked Homer watching his "show": the "insert DVD" screen. I also loved Rod announcing he's gay at the end. Homer acting like they were in high school was sweet and the whole racing duck sequence in the beginning was funny and creative. However, Ned really seemed like a jerk and some parts were kind of boring. The transition from Bart and Tutu in the zoo to -uh oh!- the church steaple just came off as silly. I was expecting the monkey to be evil instead of motherly though so I'm glad it came off as the latter. Homer should've been meaner to Ned though. :P I suppose it'd be like a 3.5/5, rounded up to a 4.
"There's a couple of things they don't teach you in Harvard Business School. One is how to cope with defeat; the other is how to handle a shotgun. I'm going to do both right now."
It was fun, but i wasnt paying that much attention, lol. The best joke for me was the last one, where Bart told Tod what GAY means![]()
"I like my beer cold, my TV loud and my homosexuals flaming."
Homer Simpson

I loved the Simpsons/Flanders dictionary scene, that was pretty funny, same with the duck race. 4/5 Like most of the others in this thread.
Edit: Oh yeah at the end too where Bart told Todd what gay means then he told Ned: Daddy I'm gay! Mrs.Simpson made me gay! That was hilarious, thanks to the guy above me to remind me about that joke. xD
Story- 4/5
Good, Not character centric, the whole family was involved in some-way, which i loved. It was real nice how they tied the two stories together at the end, love when they do that.
Jokes- 4/5
Only bad joke was the mill, and the ducks
Characterization- 4/5
Marge was reall good, classical
Rod/todd was great also, good to see them atcually evolving into different people
Homer- I hate too syupid/wacky Homer...
Potential-
Could of had a real good King Kong parody...
Overall- 4/5
Act 1- I thought was too wacky, no jerkass Homer here, but overly stupid Homer...
Act 2- Funny, Neds song, exploring more of Neds over protecting behavior.
Act 3- Great to see the two stories come together
p.s loved the gay joke at the end
It was indeed nice to have an episode end with a joke that actually WAS funny for once.
After many years We get to see Homers Mom, now We finally got to see Mr Genies Mom. .... Balance has been restored to the Universe! 4/5
I loved the Flanders-English Dictionary.

Hm hm hm. What can I say about this episode...
It was pretty much stellar. Loved every minute of it, and had me constantly laughing.
I guess the biggest point of discussion is the mill-homer-pain gag...
Maybe not, but IMO it was a hit. The music accompanying it was also a big plus to help it through.
The Flanders/English & Simpsons/English dictionaries, *muah* awesome.
The whole Marge/Rod-Todd relationship was very well done, as well as the final period at the end when they want Marge back...
And yes... the very end... "I'm GAY! Marge made me GAY daddy!"
Ahahaha. Classic. What a joke to go out on.
And then the extra scenes at the end with Maude in Heaven... noice.
Stellar stellar episode![]()
This episode was great, I thought it was going to be horrible, but it turned out to be one of the best of the season.
My favorite jokes include:
-The duck race
-homer watching the insert DVD screen
-and others that I can't remember at the moment.
I'm glad Rod & Todd, now have personalities. This episode was wonderful (aside from the mill sequence, that made me cringe.) I give it 5/5, but not quite as good as TSNES. This season is turning out to be really good.
Edit: I also enjoyed the gay joke at the end, and the appearance by Maude.

So this was written by Dana Gould...not too surprising. He writes some of the wackier plots, but unlike Tim Long, he can usually keep them funny. That said, while this wasn't as bad as the summaries and promos were suggesting, comparing it to "The Seemingly Neverending Story" seems laughable. There actually weren't any truly horrible jokes, with the possible exception of Homer's sarcasm routine, which was only bad because it's been done so many times before. Unfortunately, there were not many good jokes, either. Burns looking into the Hell Mirror and a few of the Rod/Todd scenes were the only real chuckles here.
Moving onto the plot itself, while waiting half the episode to get to the main lot is generally a bad thing, I must make an exception here. For you see, the plot of the monkey taking Bart hostage was pretty bad, so delaying it made it all the less painful. As anticipated, however, the real merits came from the sub-plot. I was hoping we'd see more of Ned at the left-handed convention, but the Marge involvement turned into something nice. I also enjoyed the ending with Maude, God, and Bob Hope. Still, I can't deny the wretchedness of the Bart plot, which was basically free of merits.
Not as weak as "Bonfire" as anticipated, but still the weakest since "Paternity Coot". C

I wasn't directing that comment to anyone. Hell, I hadn't really read any of the other posts until I posted.
Also, one of the dogs in the animal shelter reminded me of Seymour from Futurama for some reason. The design was different, though, so it was probably just a coincidental resemblance.

I can't say I enjoyed this episode very much at all. The plot was okay, but it just seemed to move so slowly. The duck race at the beginning took forever (and threw in a whole bunch of gratuitous pain gags for Homer to boot) before the main plot got going, and maybe it's just me, but I thought that Rodd and Todd constantly being afraid or playing safe just got old. It works alot better when they are used in small doses for a few jokes in an episode, but when you make their bland lifestyle the basis of the entire story things start getting, well, bland. Let's not forget the needless and laughless Randy Johnson and Susan Sarandon appearances. Then act two began with that peculiar scene with Homer sneaking in to see Marge which seemed like it would be a plot point, but really didn't go anywhere. I thought maybe things would get interesting once Bart got kidnapped by the monkey, but things just kept creeping along. The monkey lacked any personality and was kind of boring (maybe it's a good thing as opposed to a human-like characterization, but it still felt lousy), and the entire situation kept getting pushed off to the side to develop the main plot which pretty much unfolded exactly how I was expecting it to. The third act seemed very awkwardly paced, as Rodd and Todd admitting that they enjoyed being with Marge coming about a little quickly, and it seemed weird to have Marge's dramatic speech followed by a life-threatening climax (ugh). It was nice to see the elements of the story tie together in the end, but the ending was ridiculously abrupt. To top it all off, I found the humor to be pretty lousy, with so many jokes going on and on, like the aforementioned duck race, Homer's sarcasm, Homer trying to break Bart out, Rodd and Todd praying and sitting still, among others. Two solid episodes come along, and then this clunker is dropped in. 1/5
Randy Johnson was funny but why did we need Sarandon in this one anyway. Didn't even notice her. Really good episode. Except the couch gag made absolutly no sense. 4.5/5

The security lasers turned out to be real lasers, and apparently Homer did not avoid them completely.Originally Posted by GrandmaBird!!!

yeah, a huge sigh of relief after seeing this one. promo & description looked really horrid, so it was nice to see a solid episode result. There's been lots of great Flanders moments in the past few seasons, and this episode was no exception.. generally quite well done overall. B
For such a truly bizarre plot description, this episode was quite a surprise. I'm amazed the episode made it past the initial pitch, and yet, I'm also amazed that it was genuinely funny and had, dare I say, a classic feel.
The plot was actually pretty well done, and like many episodes of old, the two plots (I'm not sure I'd define there as being a subplot since both kind of got the same amount of focus) actually integrated well. Furthermore, there was a lot of good character humor and writing in general. Even sillier jokes often came from what we actually know about the characters, instead of everything feeling like comedy writers coming up with one-liners (though there were some genuinely good gags of that nature too, like the "her son played the out of control judiciary in that Republican party commercial" line). And there were some pretty classic-style staples that we haven't otherwise seen in some time, particularly all the Rod and Todd stuff, but also a few other things like the Bart and Lisa vault game (for once, just being regularl, mischevious kids). Once again, good animation too, and good use of side characters.
That said, the episode wasn't totally perfect. The opening is truly a little silly; not bad, but some of the scenes like with Lenny and Carl weren't all that funny. As well, the "bond" between Bart and the ape wasn't exactly all that deep, and the climax to it might have been a little much (and if there was supposed to be a "King Kong" reference there, it seemed like they underplayed it. If not, well, they missed a perfectly good oppurtunity to have a "King Kong" reference). Still, pretty good episode, and frankly it gives me more faith in the writers that such a premise could actually turn out as good as this did. B/B+
