There are several season 12 episodes that I consider classics of Scully's era, and definitely reminiscent of the show's Golden Age; "Trilogy of Error" is one of them. (The others, for the record, are "Lisa the Tree Hugger", "HOMR", and "Hungry, Hungry Homer.") It's a great episode, with a frenzied, intertwined, quasi-22 Short Films feel to it. Everyone's spot-on, characterization-wise, and the dynamics between the family are interesting to see (I love how Marge is utilized, in particular). Bart's Day is probably the weakest segment, relatively speaking (the whole illegal fireworks thing is a bit far-fetched...but I do like how it helps to explain a lot of the loose ends from the first two acts), but I still think that the episode, as a whole, is brilliantly constructed and executed.

    5/5

I'm going with the consensus here. Trilogy Of Error is a great episode and what amazes me every time I see it is not only the fact that it was preceded by the Crappiest Episode Ever but the next episode was a bottom20 crap too. They have to be the most irregular three weeks in The Simpsons.
As for this episode, everything has already been said. It's funny in a level that none of its contemporaries reach, it has an awesome storytelling and structure for the era and, as a format-bender, it worked perfectly. Lisa's day is not nearly as hilarious as Homer's, though. Bart's day is a favorite of me.

I would never say "among the best episodes ever". If the classic era showed the level of hardcore Scully, still, but it's not even one of my favorites. It was just an awesome episode for the worst season ever, not without its flaws (I found the ending quite annoying) but probably the only S12 thing that I don't get tired of watching. 9/10

Fantastic idea, fantastic execution. Easily a 5/5, one of the best post-classics ever.

Loved this episode and for a long time it actually was my favorite one. I'm a sucker for this kind of non-linear story telling and find "The Trilogy of Error" to be one of the brightest sparkling jewels in the entire Simpsons episode catalogue. The premises of the episode really spiced up the plot, allowed the show to take on a new shape and unfold in a different direction which is always exciting. I loved how intertwined all the segments were and how it at the end of the day, was all the Simpson family 'cause that's always fun. To sum up my ramblings; this was a heck of a ride and I enjoyed every second of it.

My second favorite Mike Scully episode outside of season 9. The stories all came together nicely and the segments were all equally good - no one segment was better than one another. B+

Edit: It's actually my second favorite non-S9 Scully episode. I forgot about Treehouse of Horror 9.

Overrated as hell. It's written very randomly, pieced together awfully, and overall pretty bad storytelling. C-.

It has problems but overall is quite funny and enjoyable.

It gets an A-... but just barely.

Yet you still give it a C-?

Anyway I think the pacing of this episode is outstanding and the stories do come together quite naturally. This episode has a really good concept and some very good jokes (especially with Fat Tony's mobsters and Linguo) and is the best of the post classic era.

Man, it's been a while since I've seen this one. I remember really liking it, at least for post-classic standards. I'll give it an A-.

after re-watching the entire season 12, i have come to the conclusion that this episode is my least favourite of the season. it has very little laughs for me. and the jokes i did laugh are are repeated in each segment. yes i know it's to help the plot but i just don't like hearing the jokes multiple times. i don't mind homer's day. bart's day was alright. i hate lisa's day.

overall a weak episode and the beginning of the end for me. i give it a C+.

handsome b wonderful is completely right on this one. interesting idea, but weak jokes and a bit of a chore to get through. lisa's segment is definitely the worst.

Best episode of Season 12, hands down.
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

A- (4/5) Best season 12 episode. I did not care about this episode one way or another when it originally aired, but I think I was about 13 or 14 then.
