They did, but even so, I think the titles might have meant different things, but when the show became part of the writers guild, the whole crediting system changed a little, i.e these days producer means consulting producer.Originally Posted by Ivan
I just rewatched 'Lemon of Troy' yesterday, and realized how much the voices of minor characters add to the show. Every citizen of Shelbyville, be it Castelanetta's droll and arrogant Fudd drinking Shelbyvillian or his female version of Willie, or Hank Azaria taking on the voice of Shelbyville Milhouse and the hilarious father of Shelby. Shearer's heroic Jebediah Springfield was overplayed to the point of hilarity. And even the Shelbyville Grampa had such a slow yet snappy old man voice that was delivered with pinpoint perfection. Whether these characters were delivering a joke or not, the voices were just so excellent and unique, that I was laughing anyway. I never realized how such miniscule roles can be so funny solely because of quality voicework.
Yeah the alternate voices are hilarious, except I'd say for Tress MacNeille's one generic kid voice, couldn't she have done something that sounds a tiny bit like Bart or something.
I don't have anything against Tress, and I don't want to say she's not good, but it's a little baffling that she seems so respected, yet 3 people who mostly do a lot of live action shows can do so much more intresting creative voices when called upon. Whereas not only doesn't seem to have much range, but she's rarely called upon to do, really emotive or dramatic acting, but it's nothing special when she does.
So how do they work exactly? Which board is the thread posted on? I hope I don't miss it.Q&A session is imminent, I know it. Well, Eric even put it on NHC's Wiki page. My guess is that the Q&A session will start on Sunday that's exactly one year since the first one began.
Also, I was wondering about this the other day. Was Who Show Mr. Burns pt.2 a season 6 carry over episode, produced by Mirkin? Or were Weinstein and Oakely given the role of executive producer for part two?
Conan O'Brien and Tarja Halonnen, and now this. Good glavin.
I do believe it was Mirkin. Also, I was wondering about this the other day. Was Who Show Mr. Burns pt.2 a season 6 carry over episode, produced by Mirkin? Or were Weinstein and Oakely given the role of executive producer for part two?
Alright, thanks. If it was Oakely/Weinstein it would've been intersting to ask how much more creative control they got over the episode becasue the produced and wrote it. Ah well.
Hahaha, Nice.Originally Posted by Jamie

Sideshow Bob Roberts. I couldn't believe it either. I was all ready to watch a good ol episode of Cape Feare, and it was beaten by Bob Roberts? Outrageous.
Surprising, I didn't think the casual fanbase liked that episode
I personally prefer Sideshow Bob Roberts to Cape Feare as the best Bob episode. Cape Feare is no doubt an excellent episode, but the excellent cynical political satire of Sideshow Bob Roberts is enough for me to rate it above Cape Feare. I even think it's far more even-handed than it appears to be at surface.Originally Posted by Nebuchanezzar

-"this time he is the lesser of the two evils"
-"I can't believe a convicted felon would get so many votes and another convicted felon would get so few."
-Of course Bob's commercial is shamelessly self-contradictory and manipulative, but Quimby's commercial isn't that better either : it's useless, full of empty feel-good promises and false past achievements.
-Quimby is shown to be tending to a Marijuana plant in his closet
- the ending is very quietly sarcastic. In Bob's commercial Quimby is criticised for supporting "revolving door prisons". Although it appears at first this is a hyprocitical exaggaration , in the end we see that Bob himself is sent to such a prison, showing that Quimby actually is lenient on criminals.
It's a bit like having sex with a jellyfish: once might an interesting experiment, twice would be perversion!after I told him my name, he beat seven shades out of me and left me in a dumpster with a bar of soap shoved in my mouth and a brush shoved in where the sun doesn't shine
Oh, I don't disagree with anything that you wrote there, and there's a lot more to be said but Cape Feare just has such a much richer and inviting environment for me. It's so damn enjoyable in every last second of it's duration, I love it. Best episode IMO (as seen on the polls [which were a bit of an anticlimax. {I was expecting some kind of announcement as to the winner |Homer the Heretic|}]). And yes, whilst Bob Roberts does have the political references and satire, Cape Feare more then makes up for it for it's wonderful humour and fantastic direction.
Sideshow Bob loves Cape Feare.
I would imagine it would be his least favourite, what with all the pain he suffers throughout the episode.
Thing is, in spite of Bob Roberts being a politcal satire, with courtroom scenes, the jokes, do just keep coming and coming, I'm not sure the joke rate would be all that far behind Cape Feare, if you could measure them somehow.
And that Hello Mr Thompson scene really sucks. ;-/
Homer_Thompson hating the Homer Thompson joke ? The ironing is delicious.Originally Posted by Homer_Thompson

Then you sir, have a markedly different sense of humour to myself, and the absolute bulk of Simpsons fans. I have found a new breed of human, the human that does not laugh at that joke. It's something I've certainly not encountered before.
Ignoring the obvious subjective stuff that will come into it, I think Cape Feare's jokes are a lot longer, bigger, better and more extravangant than those found in Sideshow Bob Roberts. That's not to say Bob Roberts doesn't have good jokes, but it's major focus probably isn't on jokes, whereas Cape Feare seems to be a lot more focused on them and goes the extra effort to make them at to set them up. The two jokes that I'll obviously reference will be the rake scene, and the Homer Thompson scene. Seeing as The Simpsons is a comedy, and that this episode represents (to me) the epitome of humour on The Simpsons, it's not hard to see why one would select it as his favourite.Thing is, in spite of Bob Roberts being a politcal satire, with courtroom scenes, the jokes, do just keep coming and coming, I'm not sure the joke rate would be all that far behind Cape Feare, if you could measure them somehow.
I'm watching it right now actually. Have I mentioned how much I love the animation in this episode?
Sideshow Bob Robert's humour is mainly satirical and consists of cynical allusions to actual conventions and references to actual political events while that of Cape Feare's is parodic and farcical. It cannot be denied that in terms of farcical and parodic humour, Cape Feare is the epitome in The Simpsons but I personally prefering satirical humour to farcical humour, rate Sideshow Bob Roberts higher than Cape Feare.
Indeed. What are your grades for each episode?
I'd give Cape Feare an A, and SBR a B-. I'm not into all the US political jokes.
They are both A+'s, but Sideshow Bob Roberts is no. 6 in my top 10 list while Cape Feare is more of a top 30 episode.Originally Posted by Nebuchanezzar

Not too fond of Roberts, personally, but it's still a good episode.
I'd say that Cape Feare is far better than Sideshow Bob Roberts. There both pretty close on the grading scale though. Bob Roberts is just too much of a satire for there to be any real engaging focus on Sideshow Bob. Bob just runs for mayor and loses because he rigged the polls. Cape Feare has much more of a 'Sideshow Bob episode' feeling. It's far more dynamic and it seemed like the writers and animators worked especially hard to turn this into a standout episode. Bob Roberts, I feel, could have been accomplished just as easily if Sideshow Bob wasn't there. Sure, there would be a lack of great Bob lines, but it could have still happened. It just seems like another political satire. Bob doesn't stand out because of the excessive focus on the parody and satire and Mirkin-esque gags. Cape Feare is a lot more focused: every moment is devoted in some way to the suspenseful plot of Bob vs Bart and there are no distractions.
On another topic, I was watching Bart Gets an 'F', and noticed that, when it shows Homer watching TV while Marge asks him to take it up to Bart, on the TV is a gorilla tapdancing. The animation shows the gorilla staring down at his feet in concentration, and then it cuts to his feet moving back and forth. It's one of the funniest things I've noticed recently.
i'd go with sideshow bob robertts being the better of the two
I prefer Cape Feare to Sideshow Bob Roberts but they're both in the A range for me, by far. I personally think Black Widower's a close second to Cape Feare, just due to how well they pulled off putting all the clues together and the suspense at the end when we think Selma's apartment blew up with her inside it.
You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! No truth-handler, you. Bah! I deride your truth-handling abilities! - Sideshow Bob
Cape Feare - A+
Sideshow Bob Roberts - A
But I can totally understand why it would be odd for SBR to be more popular in a public poll.
Also, on Wiki, the members of WikiProject:Simpsons are voting for their favourite episodes. Pretty interesting:

Both classics. Sideshow Bob Roberts shaves it for me because I love the satire.
