It's pretty hard for me to disagree with that, as it's always been the case with me. Perhaps it has something to do with the worsening of quality throughout the last season or two though...

I watched Summer of 4 ft. 2 on cable this morning, excellent episode. It's shooting up my top ten as we speak, although that might have something to do with post-episode hype. Also, what happened to GD? Imperciph's having exams, so he has an excuse, but everyone else seems to have died! I've also noticed that there hasn't been a quote for quote debate for quite some time in GD. I was looking through a few of the threads that have been around since I've joined, and they seem to have only dissappeared in the last month, maybe less.

I see what you mean Neb. GD has been really inactive in the past few weeks.

Well I've got a christmas temp job, working mornings now (10:15-14:00) From mondays-saturdays (with a rotating day off.) So I've less time for this place, now. I can't for example, be botherd to challenge that incredibly wrong cliched opinion posted at the end of previous page by Red Dragaon. I also think the gap between the episodes in September and November, mean this place suddenly gets a bit of activity and then promptly stops, it's probably going to start getting busier again, now that we're really getting into season 18.
Also there's nothing new to discuss, because the episodes so far are just holdovers, that aren't any different from the previous seasons, you could pretty much just copy and paste the reviews from last season into this season, and it would fit.

As a new season starts each year, does GD get a large amount of threads discussing the new season as it progresses? You know, 'Jean should quit', 'better than last season?', 'I don't like this...' type threads? Not that I'm complaining though.

I would review new episodes, but they aren't shown in Aus for another couple of months, which is quite annoying.

So I'm wrong for thinking something? Thanks, that really hurt my feelings.

An opinion can easily be wrong.

None the less, I do agree with what you said, kinda, but probably in different circumstances. For instance, when I was watching season 14, I would have only been 15 when season 14 was airing in Australia, and hence my views on what a good episode is, why an episode is good yada yada would have been completely different to what I believe now. So whilst I may have regarded several of those episodes as kinda crappy then, I look back on them now and see that they are indeed quite good. I also suppose that when you consider that there has been a decrease in quality throughout the history of OFF, that it does make you appreciate episodes more, but only because you're judging older episodes against new ones.

Back when majority of the fans and especially the old essay dork krew still were under the impression that the show was trying to somewhere and had a momentum in an upward direction, every up and down in a season, such topics like the ones you mentioned came up on a regular basis and trends within that particular season were greatly analysed. Also, back then some members like StrideR and TerrorK were very vocal about their dislike of Jean, so they had frequent debates with the old essay dork krew. Now that majority of old essays dorks have stopped watching and GD as a whole has developed the consensus that the show has stagnated and dug itself into a rut, there is very little discussion about the current season. This is not helped by the fact that there is very little stylistic change from episode to episode which basically discourages discussion as a whole.

And I hope to be back to full activity by Sunday and I'll try to do my share of generating discussion.

You're the one that's suggesting that in 10 years time, the people who are critical of new episodes will like them. That's just another way of saying other people are wrong.
And I'm not saying your wrong for liking new episodes, I'm talking about the comparison you make to the snpp reviews. Which has been said so many times here, and it's an argument that just doesn't quite work.
And if that really did hurt your feelings, you seriously need to grow a bit of backbone.

I still have time for GD...too much time for it. But there hasn't been much stuff of any major interest for a while. We need something big to happen to the show to shake things up a bit.

I suppose a movie trailer might encourage some good discussion. ;-/

No, I just had a bit of a bad and frustrating day and then to come on here and hear that I'm wrong and that my opinion is cliched and not worthy of a response was just the last straw for me that day. Anyway, I didn't mean to say that people who are critical of them will like them and that they are wrong (although some say the episodes get better with time), I just mean that as generations turn, more people will start to like them.

Maybe soon the newer simpsons episodes will get more highly praised because they are less new, and the newer episodes, eg, season 19, when it happens, will be the one being said is really bad.

I didn't say your opinion wasn't worthy of response, I said it's an opinion I've heard a lot before, so it's tiresome to over the same points, time and time again, especially now my days are busier.

I recently saw a book in my book shop called, "Why are the Simpsons Yellow"? It looked quite interesting, but £8? I decided to leave it.

I watched Lard of the Dance, and the first act of Wizard of Evergreen Terrace this morning. I particularly enjoyed this scene in Wizard, credit to snpp for the summary...

    ----------

Bill: Our topless story: President Clinton has launched a new website!
Marty: Uh, oh! Wait, let me guess ... www.[wolf-whistle].[boing!]!
    Homer: Hahahaha, Website.
Bill: Okay, here's another News Flush! [toilet flush sound] Doctors say the life expectancy of the average man is now seventy-six point two years!
Homer: [slams on the brakes] Seventy-six point two? But I'm already thirty-eight point one! I've wasted half my life! [exits car, walks across highway] Half my life gone, and I'm only guaranteed thirty eight more years! [Homer walks over to a highway phone after nearly being struck by several passing cars, and picks up the receiver] Marge, I've wasted half my life!
Operator:Sir, do you need a tow truck?
Homer: What are you talking about, Marge? I don't need a ...[behind him, another car collides with the one he left on the highway] Okay, send the truck.

    ----------

Ahahahaha, hilarious. So much humour in such a short scene. I'm sure that particular scene recieves an equally enthusiastic response from the fans of The Simpsons here.

Has some great gags, but introduces the plot in a too rushed manner, which, by the style of this episode (Homer rediscovering his passion for life by idolizing Edison), should have been developed in a more gradual manner for better storytelling. But yeah, there's some good material in that opening scene. Too bad no gag in the episode except Homer's different inventions matches with this scene in quality.

Question: Why does Nelson be friends with Bart and Milhouse and other times bully them, although Jimbo Dolph and Kearney always bully them?

I always had the impression that Jimbo, Dolph and Kearney were older then Nelson and Bart. I'm probably wrong, but that's what I thought.

Yeah I think they are as well, but Nelson teams up with Jimbo and co...

But Nelson IS in the same class as Bart, and I assume the others are higher

Kearney is supposedly about 30, Nelson is 10 like Bart, and Dolph and Jimbo don't really attend a class, they just hang around beating kids up.

I don't think Kearney is supposed to be that old. I always assumed he was around 16 or 17.

Well, we know that he was the only kid in the school old enough to remember the national bicentennial, plus he can drive, he has a son and he's been divorced, so that would suggest that he was at least early 20s, but it's just a running joke (that I think is a little odd) that has only been mentioned a few times, I don't really think about (or even actually care for that matter) how old he actually is. As for why Nelson is often friends with Bart and Milhouse, yet bullies them sometimes, well Nelson only seemed to be a real figure of menace in his first appearance in Bart the General, but from there onwards they began to use the trio of bullies instead. I suppose Nelson can just change, you see the battle he has with himself in Lisa's Date with Density, he must make a decision between being a bully or actually befriending somebody. I suppose that it's just an observation of what kids do. There are plenty of kids that will beat up others on one day, befriend them the next and return to beating them up again the day after that. Sorta similar to the Bart/Milhouse relationship, I always thought that was a great example of the sort of friendships kids can have at that age when one friend is clearly dominant.

Kearney should be under 21, since he needed a fake ID to buy alcohol in Much Apu About Nothing. But didn't he remember the war, in another episode?

On a related topic, which classes are Rod and Todd in? I'm guessing one of them is in the third grade, maybe the older one. Though we didn't see either in BvLvTG...
