Rate & Review King of the Hill: Harlottown

Well, after all these years, we finally learn the origin of the name "Arlen", and the foundation of it. That's ONE KotH mystery solved.

-This was an earlier entry in the Season 9 episodes, but has come to be a bright spot for an otherwise gloomy Season 10.

-I've always wondered who Arlen's mayor was. And with our hometown under the watch of a control board, I can fully understand the context behind Arlen's City Manager.

-An interesting pair-up with Kahn Soupinousinphone and Ted Wassonosong.

-A chunk of this story involved Peggy's new job for the Bystander, which makes the delay of "Bystand Me" more shameful (sorry, but you can't undo the past).

-I'm gonna go out on a limb and make but a superficial comparision to The Simpsons' "Lisa the Iconoclast". I always enjoy any story that focuses on town heritage. And this was just the type of premise that King of the Hill was badly in need of.

-In-between, there were great characterizations and good jokes, all strung together in a smooth, vivid storyline.

Again, this was much-needed relief for what has become the norm for King of the Hill these days. I'm gonna give THIS bad boy something that I haven't given in a LONG time...a GREAT grade. They truly earned it. :thumbsup

This was a good one, I thought. Laughed really hard at the Katzenjammer Kids reference, for some reason.

I didn't realize it till now, but over the last two seasons, Peggy's career as a substitute teacher has pretty much been eliminated from the show. I don't think she's done any teaching work since "Dale Be Not Proud" in season 8, and now all references to her work are to her job as a writer for the newspaper.

Best episode in quite awhile. Maybe I'll elaborate later. 4.5/5 by our current standards.

Solid and memorable in an era of the show where things were starting to really blend together in a mundane jumble, but unfortunately the show's recent preachiness reared itself towards the end (the heavy-handed blanketing of all porn as a terrible thing) and really started to grate.

this is the first episode i have seen from the new "season" and it was wonderful. great use of peggy's new job at the bystander. i initially feared that peggy working there could be a "jump the shark" moment, but it has added new dimensions to the show. the new preachiness did rear its head towards the end, but it didn't have that negative of an impact on the show, really. the "she cleans up nice" (or something along those lines) comment by peggy was a very memorable, albeit borderline sappy, close. 4/5

Probably the most memorable KotH in a long while. 4/5.
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.
