Oh my god, I love this episode. Well, maybe it's not one of my all-time favorites, but this always gets a laugh out of me.

"Fire fire fire fire fire fire!"

"Yes. You won. You won more than you bargained for."
    "Woo hoo!"

"Why do we always fight on vacation?"

    "Did you hear something?"
    "No."
    "Hm. Did I?"
    "I don't know!"

"Sorry, I can't let you off until we get to the top of the hill, and even then it's...sort of tricky."

"And this doorknob, properly turned, will allow us access to the cabin."
"No going through the window for us!"

"Wow, look at all those avalanches. You think they could have covered the cabin?"
"I'll tell you one thing. They didn't come here for the Mountain Music Festival."

"Lord, please protect this rocket house and all who dwell within the rocket house."

So just a silly little episode that I like to watch every now and then. 4/5.

Underated. Just watched it tonight. Possibly one of the top five lines in the season comes from Lenny right near the end when the rocket-cabin is bearing down on them.

"Hey, I think there's something wrong with it's brakes!"

Great episode, 4/5! not excelent but I't awesome nonetheless.

the scenes with burns and homer together were the best part of it.

    One of season 8's weakest episodes. A 'B', or a 4/5.

It's not my favorite, but it still has some great laughs.

Mr. Burns remembered Homer's name in this episode...odd.

One of my all time faves.

Homer: You know you're the richest guy I know. Way richer than Lenny.
Burns: Oh yes. But I'd trade it all for a little more.

IMO this is the second funniest episode in Season 8, behind "You Only Move Twice"

(I'm bumping because I just saw this episode)

Mountain of Madness...hmm. Over the years, I have been grappling with whether or not I actually like or dislike this episode. Watching it now, I would have to say that my feelings actually fall somewhere in between. To be sure, it is boring in parts (the subplot really drags - Smithers' travails were more arduous to watch than they should've been) and the ending didn't really do anything for me.

However, I quite liked the first act and I thought that the second act (where Burns and Homer are trapped in the cabin) is quite good once it gets going. It is hard to detail what the third act would be - I guess when the rescuers search for Burns and Homer? If that's the case, it's not bad, but nor does it hold my interest.

Technically though, the episode shines: good overall characterisation, good animation and sterling voice-acting. Even the premise sounds delicious (as far as a Simpsons episode goes): A mountain trip gone horribly wrong with the protagonists being Homer and Burns - who are arguably polar opposities. One is naive and poor-to-middle class, while the other is calculating and wealthy.

Oh well, too bad. I guess the episode, like much of Season 8 (in truth) is somewhat less than the sum of its parts. In other words, it had potential, but it failed to capitalise on it fully. A strong B-.

4/5, a very underrated episode of "The Simpsons"
Kids, let me tell you about another so-called ``wicked'' guy. He had long hair and some wild ideas. He didn't always do what other people thought was right. And that man's name was...
I forget. But the point is... I forget that, too. Marge, you know what I'm talking about. He used to drive that blue car?

-- Homer's parable of the guy in the blue car, ``Homer the Heretic''

    Ralph: I Won! I Won!
Principal Skinner: No Ralph this means you're failing English
Ralph: Me fail English? That's unpossible.

The commentary kind of sucked for that episode, since they had that contest winner in... a great opportunity to meet some of the important figures on the show and ask interesting questions we all have, and he BLEW IT!

deffinitly 5/5, this is the episode I watch the most on my season 8 dvd. The story and jokes where nailed out. My favorite part is when Homer & Mr. Burns with their funny imaginary war friends.

Heh, yea. The only thing he did is introduce himself. Then he was told not to walk around the room. After that, he was dead silent.

    Anyway, underrated. 4/5

If anyone cares, the contest winner wasn't really a contest winner, just Dave Thomas, who played Rex Banner in 'Homer vs the Eighteenth Amendment'.

I have to give this one a 5, it's actually one of the few that feels like a classic (read: not stupidly unbelievable) in an otherwise overrated season.

Edit: It looks like you're not the only one to say that. Weird. I don't really get what the point of the joke was, but OK.

One of the funniest, original, downright weird episodes of the simpsons (much like season 8 itself) . Loved practically every line spoken in it:

Carl:According to the map, the cabin should be right here.
Lenny: Hey, maybe there is no cabin. Maybe it's one of them metaphorical things.
Carl: Oh yeah, yeah... Like maybe the cabin is the place inside each of us, created by our goodwill and teamwork.
Lenny: [in a flash of insight] Ohhh! Nah, they said there would be sandwiches.

    Hah!

Misfires in some spots, and others still make me laugh to this day (especially the John Muir joke).

Smokey: Only who can prevent forest fires?
[Bart chooses the "You" button over the "Me"]
Smokey: You pressed "you," referring to me. That is incorrect. The correct answer is "you".
Bart: [kicks the robot] Mom, can Lisa and I play outside -- away from the bear?

Homer: You know, Mr. Burns, you're the richest guy I know. Way richer than Lenny.

Ranger: Hey, what is going on here? Who are you people? This is a lookout post. Where is Ranger McFadden?
Drunk: [slurred] I was just happy to see some of the nice people!
Ranger: Quiet, you drunk. Where's ranger McFadden?
McFadden: Right here, sir. Right behind the drunk.

Bart: Teamwork is overrated. Think about it. I mean, what team was Babe Ruth on? Who knows?
    Lisa+Marge: Yankees.
Bart: Sharing is a bunch of bull, too. And helping others. And what's all this crap I've been hearing about tolerance?
Homer: Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
