    R&R: Mountain of Madness

I've changed my mind quite a bit after really disliking it on first viewing. This is a rather slow-paced episode where nothing much seems to happen, but the quality of the jokes is surprisingly good for a silly premise.

This is one of the best episodes for Lenny and Karl dialogue; everything they said was very funny but felt realistic.

    "Did you hear that?"
    "No"
    "Did I hear it?"
    "I don't know!"

"Aw, nuts. I mean [...] aw, nuts"

Homer and Burns stuck together wasn't quite as funny as I would've liked, but there are some good moments. I love the animation as Burns an Homer stare at each other. Homer is probably more quiet in this episode than ever; it's kind of strange how normal he is.

There are plenty of amusing things that got better for me in subsequent viewings. Lisa with the hurt animals, "eagle's eye view directly below", "yes, I have been working on my figure". And the last gag was perfectly timed.

A small but enjoyable and satisfying outing. All of the jokes feel organic, despite the plot.

Looking back on my old reviews, i gave it a 7/10, but thinking back on it, it was a pretty good episode with some great moments and quotes. So i'll bump it up to 8/10

When I was reading the Oakley/Weinstein Q&A where they said that a few episodes in S8 simply turned out boring, this was the exact episode that popped in my head. It has a pretty entertaining first few minutes with the fire drill, but after that, it got seriously unfunny and dull. The subplot with Smithers also felt pointless. I liked the animation during Burns' and Homer's fantasy sequences, but that was really it.

Yeah I think this is a really strange little episode and my enjoyment of it seems to differ every time I see it. I hated it the first time I saw it, I just found it slow and boring. I still think it's quite slow, quelle surprise, but I don't find it boring anymore. Although there are a few moments that make me wonder if they were just trying to fill up time such as Marge watching the projector...no idea what that was all about.

    I think a B is about right.

Yeah, I thought I was missing something...was that a joke? Maybe O&W could answer that one

Funny start, but after that the episode feels quite bland in parts and the story feels quite long even for a twenty minute episode. Not the best of episodes but still worth a watch. B

Okay episode. Funny in some parts, but the plot really drags along. 3/5 or C

Could this be among the last times in the series we saw classic Burns (I always liked his justification for cheating in this episode)? Solid episode; the humor seemed a bit Seinfeld-like somehow. B

This is the most underrated episode ever. A*

It has fantastic snow gags (Mr Burns and the gun, Homer and the snowmobile), the car parking gag on the ice is perfect, Lenny and Carl's routines are hilarious, and the fire drill sequence is pure gold (so much so that every time our shool has a fire drill me and my friends act it out).

It's one of my top 5. HUGELY underrated. A laugh-a-second episode.

I don't think the premise is silly but it seems as if I have already seen something similar in other animated shows or in some sitcom. Anyway it is a good episode with good Burns' characterization and funny stuff with Smithers and Lenny before becoming an overused character. It also takes place in a nice scenario. But it's not very memorable and it seemed average at that moment. 4/5

Plot problems aside, this is one of the funniest episodes of Season 8, about on par with The PTA Disbands, I think. 4/5 overall.
Bart: "Please don't call our parents!"
Chief: "I'm afraid I have to for hijinks like these. Hijinks - it's a funny word. Three dotted letters in a row."
    Eddie: "Is it hyphenated?"
Chief: "It used to be, back in the good old days, you know. Of course, every generation hyphenates the way it wants to. Then there's *NSYNC! What the hell is that? Jump in any time there, Eddie, these are good topics."
