Meh. Some good points, but Homer really gets on my nerves towards the end. Barely scraping a 3/5.

Solid and humorous episode, but Homer constantly injecting himself with morphine was really stupid.

It was good, but some of Homer's antics did it in too much, and I still don't get the joke on why Skinner was having heart surgery on the night of the award ceremony.

Never seen it. Is it anything like "Children of a Lesser Clod"? If it is, it's a good Scully-era episode, but with its faults. 3/5.
Bart: "Please don't call our parents!"
Chief: "I'm afraid I have to for hijinks like these. Hijinks - it's a funny word. Three dotted letters in a row."
    Eddie: "Is it hyphenated?"
Chief: "It used to be, back in the good old days, you know. Of course, every generation hyphenates the way it wants to. Then there's *NSYNC! What the hell is that? Jump in any time there, Eddie, these are good topics."

Though very funny at times (stuff with Rainier Wolfcastle and Krusty was brilliant), it's ultimately a flat and pretty mean-spirited episode. C

according to the SNPP capsule it's not a reference or something, so I think it was just supposed to be a joke.

good, solid and funny episode for me.
Homer's behaviour is a little bit annoying in some scenes, but overall, not much to criticise for me.

Sometimes funny, always painfully wrong at characterizations (Homer taking care of children?). 4.5/10, because it's not boring.

I watched this episode on DVD today, and suddenly realized that I hadn't seen this episode before.

Which is really weird, because I was pretty sure I had seen everything from Seasons 1 through 16. Every time I'd see a list of Season 12 episodes, I'd just gloss over the list and not think about them. It's not like this episode is talked about or debated much. I kept watching it, thinking that I would eventually remember the episode, but I didn't. In fact, the joke about Homer's scab healing over Ralph's hand pretty much confirmed I hadn't seen it. I would've remembered that joke.

Anyway, I enjoyed the episode. One of the nice things I liked the best was that it was a pretty well-rounded plot, without any Act 3 ridiculous wackiness. The whole YMCA opening was unrelated, but it was still pretty funny overall and felt worthwhile.

The writers did a pretty good job of making Homer's connection with the kids feel organic. It's not the likeliest story for Homer, but they make it work pretty believably. His story-telling to Rod/Todd started it off and it expanded from there. The dynamic worked between Bart/Lisa being bitter about the situation and Homer, who is blissfully unaware of the fact.

The jokes were a bit hit-or-miss. There were a couple jokes that reminded me it's a Scully episode (like the aforementioned scab joke). Still, several jokes hit the spot.

Overall, probably a low-end 4/5, if that makes any sense. Like a 3.8 or something.

I thought it was another Scully bleccch fest. 1/5, from what I remember.

Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

Quite funny in spots and most of the daycare stuff was okay. When he kidnapped them was a bad plot change. I think they could have done the amusing helicopter chase by just having run from the mob on his own.

I liked daycare jokes and the plot was nice, but it lost some points for when Homer kidnapped the children. overall nice plot with only one bad thing that i remember, 4/5

What everyone else said...the first act is golden but Homer becomes way too mean to his own kids...it's exaggerated way past the point of being realistic at all, and I hate it when the writers intentionally make Homer unlikeable. 3/5 is about right
