Rate/Review - "Another Simpsons Clip Show"

After re-watching this episode I realised just how horrible it really was. Almost as bad as the dreadful "Gump Roast", it gets a generous 3/10.

The concept of using the reused animation to take a clip show one step further was interesting assuming it was intentional. If it was intentional, it gets a 2/5. If it wasn't, it gets a 1/5. Right now I'm siding with 2/5.

Overall, it's poorly made as a clip show. They use very long clips, making it very boring to watch. It's mostly like what you would expect on a sitcom clipshow. Something The Simpsons should be making fun of.

    Ugh!
I hated this, I gave it a 2/5 because its hard to do 23 epps a season without doing a clip show

I'd also like to say that Gump Roast was much more enjoyable

Well it's a clip show, but it's also one of the worst clip shows. They seem to highlight clips with no real humor in them, and then wrap a crappy "Romance" storyline around it. Terrible idea. 2/5 (And that's being generous)

I don't mind clip shows (sometimes I even like them), but this is just awful. After watching it on DVD, I'd probably say it's my least favorite episode ever.

Not as bad as people say. The part at the beginning (with the fireplace in the bedroom) was great, and since most of the material is clips recycled from great episodes, there's not much new stuff there to go wrong with. 4/5

This episodes suffered from many problems, but the one in particular is one that is always mentioned. The clips went on for too god damn long! It is not that I hate clip shows; in fact, sometimes I enjoy them. The first clip show was really well put together, and doesn't get a half bad rating. This one however, dragged old clips on forever, and sometimes the content in some of the clips had nothing to do with the them of the episode love(in the room service clip, they showed the monkey scene which could have been cut). The plot of the episode was incredibly weak, and from the beginning could not sustain 22 minutes. I am not saying I could have created a better center theme for a clip show or that they didn't need it because they did. But the fatc remains they could have made a more interesting one like the first. They only thing that saves this episode from getting a 1 or 2/10 is the fact that some of the new lines were funny.

    Final Score: 3/10

I found it's possible to enjoy this episode a lot more if you don't view it as a clipshow but as watching a condensed version of these episodes.
yeah it's very lazy but that was the point it was a scapegoat so they could make the other episodes better.

It wasn't funny, clips were too long (I'll just put another DVD in if I want to see part of the episode), the ending was mushy, and almost all of it was recycled animation. So It's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show is a lot better.

Worst of season. Easily. As sad is this may seem, Gump Roast owns this. The theme was actually a good idea. It was just terribly executed, especially when compared to the first clipshow. Bart's prank calls + Homer's Mmmm's = Only well-organized clips.

Some of the clips are okay but the rest of the episode was a cheap way to make an episode. Bah, humbug!

Besides being a clip show not that much was bad about it. But it was still a clip show which is a cheap way to churn out episodes. I actually liked the clips though. 2/5

its bad, but its not as bad the "Very special" episode Gump roast (I did like that song at the end), but I do like that they were just really tired after writing so many episodes. 2/5

It was, and I always knew it was. This episode is good for a few laughs, and isn't horrible to watch like "All Singing, All Dancing" or "Gump Roast" are at times. I'll give it 3/5.
Bart: "Please don't call our parents!"
Chief: "I'm afraid I have to for hijinks like these. Hijinks - it's a funny word. Three dotted letters in a row."
    Eddie: "Is it hyphenated?"
Chief: "It used to be, back in the good old days, you know. Of course, every generation hyphenates the way it wants to. Then there's *NSYNC! What the hell is that? Jump in any time there, Eddie, these are good topics."

Here's what people thought when it aired (snpp.com)

    Reviews

Merrick Weintraub: Kudos to OFF staff. This Clip show makes up for the
last one. The writers saw a thread of relationships throughout the
series and assembled them nicely for this episode.

Aaron Varhola: The new material had deadly meta-humor; even the board
scene and (recycled) couch gag made fun of the idea of a clip show.
Lisa's cynical comments about love and about no coats on Valentine's
Day were perfect; Homer's (unspoken) moral would be: "You only have
to get love right once, and Marge and I did." New material: A-.

Don Frega: Tonight's episode was the same recycled, repackaged,
premasticated product that network television has been subjecting
audiences to for years. Are we supposed to eat it up just because
it's another Simpsons episode? [...] I don't need burned out
writers telling me what was funny 4 years ago.

Chris McPhee: This is ridiculous. Shape up or you risk losing even your
loyalest of fans. At least make it look like you are trying and let
the show die gracefully. That is, unless Bart's comment about the
Cosby show was right and you do plan to "run the show into the
    ground."

Carl Mueller: What was the point? It sucked. Bad. At least the first
clip show had a funny subplot.

Blair Dillman: Last night's "show" was astonishingly bad and an insult
to all Simpsons fans. Hey, if it's clips we want, we can refer to
    our tapes of old shows!

Douglas Ferry: I could barely even keep my eyes on the tv during last
night's show. Were it not for my fanatical devotion to taping every
Simpsons without commercials, I would have turned it off during the
    first 5 minutes.

Don Del Grande: F - if you're going to do a clip show, use a lot of
short clips, as opposed to huge chunks of clips. (WARNING - BAD PUN
COMING UP) Looks like a case of (writer) Penny Wise being Pound
Foolish. Of course, the real problem was that she DIDN'T write
    enough of this episode...

Max Payton: Another clip show? Aw, gees. Even the spliced-in humor
didn't liven up the thing. When the best part of the show is the
assortment of "Mmm, <fill-in-blank>" and prank calls to Moe...that's
a sad commentary, people. Really sad.

John Smolka: The real funny part about Sunday's episode is everyone who
is mad that it was a lame show. When Lisa said: "It's a composite
of old shows.." it proved that the producers knew what they were
doing. It was like a 22 minute Rake Scene, and therefore it was
    hilarious.

Matthew Kurth: An opportunity wasted and a family diminished. The
recycled footage gag was nice and the Moe montage kicked ass.
However, the clips were poorly-assembled, the narration was awful,
the selection was poor, and the characterization was abysmal. 4/10

Tony Hill: I don't know how to compare this to a regular ep, but this
was definitely better than the first clip show. Some of the clips
ran too long; they could have used more and shorter clips. I give
    it a B+.

Raymond Chen: What the hell was that? [a 9F19 quote, everyone - ed]
    [well duh - ed]

Yours Truly: I never thought I could like the original clip show (9F17),
but it was _worlds_ better than this one. How embarrassing for
whoever wrote this episode. Grade: F.
Edit: I may quote snpp from time to time if the reviews are interesting and not too numerous. Pre-'97 there usually aren't too many.

Clip shows like these don't even count as episodes. The only amusing bit was the reused animation jab.

Worst of the classic era, and quite honestly one of the worst ever

(and believe me, I NEVER give those...I think it's the only episode below a B between early S3 and The Principal and the Pauper! I gave "Take My Wife, Sleaze" a B-, for reference (although I have a reason for that, if you read my review)

Yeah, the S6 boxset was the first one I bought (20 bucks at Wal-Mart) so I'd watch it occasionally for the clips--but now that I have all the episodes the clips came from it's just so damn pointless!

I thought I'd reviewed this one but I can't see my review so obviously not. This episode was very poorly thought out, boring, predictable and the plot and premise for the clip show didn't even make sense -it took Marge and Homer all episode to figure out a resolution that should have been obvious from the very beginning. I don't think they were even trying with this episode.

I'll be generous and give this 3/10 because at least the characterization of the Simpson family were largely well-done in the non-clip segments (contrast this to later clip episodes such as "Gump Roast"). But this doesn't belong in the classic era IMO

My second least favourite of all the clip shows and probably one of the worst episodes up to that point. Nothing really interesting in the connecting scenes and they basically retell the stories more than anything. On the other hand, considering there are clips of better episodes that has to be worth something. It's clearly still a leg up IMO over some episodes I've seen the last few seasons. 2/5

This was a bad episode (IMO). It's dull, unfunny and it shows little to no effort. 2/5
