I used to love this one and give it an A- and always wondered why people gave it such low grades. Now I realise it's pretty meh. C+

Nothing special, but I'd love to have a dog that smart.

Along with The Homer They Fall one of the worst of the golden era. It bores me to tears;it is incredibly mundane and barely raises a titter. Bart is irritatingly whiney and the whole episode just seems utterly pointless C-

1st act is great, but it quickly goes downhill once Laddie is introduced.

Good episode, but some really poor moments let it down. I used to be a big fan of this episode, but have changed my mind. Wiggum singing "Jammin`" at the end was gold.

this episode is brilliant. it contains 2 of the best lines ever :

    1) Homer's rant about bart crying and how he almost had bart eating dog food.

    2) Milhouse - "remember when he ate my goldfish, but you lied and said i didn't have any goldfish? well why did i have the bowl, why did i have the bowl?"

Wow, a total lack of reviews for this episode. It's a nice and sweet episode, I usually enjoy ones between Bart and SLH and this was a solid episode.

Really solid episode with great humor, and felt bad for Bart for losing his best friend. An underrated episode to say the least.

Honestly, this may be the most boring episode of Seasons 3-8. Not the worst, but the most boring. Aside from a few good Act 1 jokes ("Santos L. Helper"), the humor is dry and the direction that the story takes with the blind man is very uninteresting. The Bart/SLH relationship has been done better. This rare Season 8 misstep gets a 2/5

on the flipside to the humour, i think the story is great too. amongst all of bart's product purchasing, the thing that truly makes him happy was SLH. the episode also was ahead of it's time in terms of social commentary by making a comment on the apparent ease of getting a credit card at the time, which was one of the pieces in the puzzle that is the financial meltdown.

but the main thing is it was hilarious.

i'm not really a fan of this episode. I don't like the Simpsons episodes with the dog in a leading role and this one is no exception.

The first act is obviously golden simpsons, then it slowly goes downhill, for a great ending.

This episode is one of the low-lights of season 8, for sure, but it has one of my favorite jokes ever. For some reason, the visual of Marge bobbing her head to the frying pan radio while "You Really Got Me" plays... I dunno why, but I just crack up. Somehow, probably by accident, it's just perfect.

    Anyway, 3/5

Not one of the best episodes of its season, but then again it's from when the show could pretty much do no wrong. Love a lot of the stuff surrounding Bart and his credit card. The Laddie thing is a little silly but no doubt amusing. I think it's interesting how all the acts are related but are defined by very distinct ideas (credit card -> Laddie -> retrieving SLH from blind man). Some good laughs and of course characters that I still cared about. 4/5 (B+)

an good episode, nothing particulary wrong with it, the plot was kind of boring, but there were still some great gags sprinkled about such as "There, there, shut up boy" . and other classic jokes. still, much more preferable than that imatation gruel they are giving us now.

Forgettable, unfunny and largely boring, if well executed. Worst of season 8. C+ maybe a bit higher.

    Love the Jamming ending though.

    Edited From Episode Club

A very average episode, however it has it's moments.

    Best Quotes:

Comic Book Guy: Now, make like my pants and Split!

Lisa: You can't afford this, how can you afford this.
Bart: Ah, you've been all edgy and suspicious ever since I gave you those pep pills.
Lisa: What are you talking about, I don't need pep pills to be suspicious, if I want to comment on it, I'll comment on it, who's gonna stop me, you pep pill boy, pep boy pills beverly sills, oh boy oh boy oh boy...

Bart: 1200 bucks! I better just get one.

Credit card rep: Hello, Mr. Halper, I'm calling from Moneybank credit services department. I was wondering if you had a chance to read the threatening letter we sent you.

Homer: i don't know about this dog, he's kind of snooty.
Marge: Homer, are you wearing a tie to impress Laddie?
Homer: Do you think he noticed?
    Marge: Mmmmm (applies make-up)

Milhouse: He's nothing like your old dog.
Bart: Santa's Little Helper? I guess I was the only one who liked him.
Milhouse: You got that right. Remember the time he ate my goldfish and you lied to me and said I never had any goldfish. Then why'd I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

Bart: I'm sure he'll be happy as a police dog.
Homer: He better know how to keep his mouth shut.

Homer: You gave both dogs away! You know how I feel about giving!

Homer: Well, crying isn't going to bring him back. Unless your tears smell like dogfood. So, you can either sit there crying and eating can after can of dogfood until your tears smell enough like dogfood to make your dog come back, or you can go out there and find your dog.
Bart: You're right, I'll do it.
Homer: Rats, I almost had him eating dogfood

Groundskeeper Willie: Yeah, I bought your mutt, and I 'ate him. I 'ate his little face, I 'ate his guts, and I'ate the way he's always barkin', so I gave him to the Church.
Bart: Oh, I see. You hate him, so you gave him to the Church
Willie: Aye, I also ate the mess he left on me rug. Ya heard me!

Highlights include Homer's CARtoons, Bart filling out the application (whatever I finds, I keeps), Bart's gifts for the family, TRUCKER'S CHOICE pep pills, Laddie's credentials, Bart destroying his credit card (We didn't see nuthin' if you didn't see nuthin), Laddie giving Mr. Burns the "secret handshake", Bart's fantasy (MORE DOGS!), Bart thinking Rev. Lovejoy crucified SLH, the Dead Parrot (Polly, want to say hello to our guest. Fine, be that way), and the Jammin' ending.

One of the forgettable episodes from the classic era. It has its moments, but that third act really is boring.
