I'm sorry, but I kinda like this one. The way I see it, N Sync are already a parody, joke band anyway, and the episode making fun of them seemingly without them realizing it isn't so bad, even if their appearance (and well the episode in general I must admit) was incredibly stupid. It had good gags here and there, a change from the "Homer at the helm of everything" formula, 'Yvan Eht Nioj', and Ralph's bass voice.

5/5, it's official: I'm not allowed to hate many episodes of this show
My vote for the worst of season 12. The plot was iffy to being with and it wasn't very funny. That being said, it's not a total waste. There is some salvageable stuff in there. 2/5

This is my favorite Scully-era episode. I think both the plot and humor are great. I thought that the YVAN EHT NIOJ thing was very cleaver. On top of all this, I think the music is catchy. 5/5

1/5 One of the all-time lows. Awful episode.
This episode is stupid, N'SYNC sucked, the whole army thing came out of nowhere and it wasn't done right. The jokes were lame. The videoclip in the episode was awful and it ran for 1 full minute, in a show with only 22 minutes.
I was so bored by the end of act I that I almost didn't watch the rest. Wich I hadn't. The episode it started bad and it just keeps on going downhill. ACTs 2 and 3 look like they were written in 5 minutes and them nobody had the courage to re-writte it. 1/5 Thanks Tim Long for another masterpiece.
2/5. It just sucked. This episode gets a![]()

You're the writer's new best friendo. I mean really, Homer could be taking a poop in the middle of the living room and you'd be saying: "OMG! that's the coolest poop ever! The way it swirls around and makes a nice point on top, it looks like DQ soft-serve!".
Anyway, I actually did enjoy this until the shitty "Join the Navy" crap kicked in. A more satisfying ending would've been having LT Smash get thrown in jail for embezzling money, or something, and Bart and the rest of the kids could've wound up back to normal in a more believeable manner.
Oh, well, what's done is done...
3/5 for the first 2/3rds and a 1/5 for the last few minutes.
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

I disagree, I think it's terrible the whole way through.

I liked it!!! 4/5

I still don't and will probably never understand why this episode gets so much flak, some even calling it the worst ever. I mean it's not great, or even good but worse than the likes of Mad Marge, Mangled, and Safari? Preposterous.
Blecch. By no means worse than "Mad Marge", "Mangled", and "Safari". But still. F

it's not THAT bad 3/5

When N'Sync is the guest star, you know the episode is going to be just plain awful. The producers would have been better off not releasing this stink bomb on the public. Worst episode ever. 1/5
Despite not being a favorite, I don't see this one as a candidate for Worst Episode Ever at all. I kinda understand why it is usually an unpopular episode, in so far as it's another wacky and crazy show with serious problems to make a proper storyline. But in all that seemingly terrible scenario, the episode was pretty solid from my point of view in terms of characterization (nothing remarkable in that way) and, above all, humor. It was indeed one of the most hilarious from its season.
I agree the appearance of N'Sync was pretty unnecessary and dull but anyway it wasn't such a terrible thing like some of you state. I'm not bothered at all by them (I think that, for example, Magic Johnson's appearance in Homer Defined was equal or worse).
And, surprisingly, the third act's conspiracy was something I could sit through at. It had good jokes, and in first views the "Yvan Eht Nioj" thing was interesting. The Mad Magazine bombing was too much but for some reason I didn't dislike it.
So, it seems I don't have a bad opinion of the episode. Does it mean I find it good? No. It's still a show of wackiness, with typical season 12 mistakes. The fact that it doesn't suck like some other episodes is obviously a point in favor, but in no way it's the kind of show I would relate to my point of view about the series. 5.5/10

On re-watch it's better than Tennis the Menace but still pretty poor. At least the singing in this one has some kind of purpose. A 2/5 remains my rating.
I dunno, I kinda liked this episode on re-watch.
The premise of the Springfield Elementary kids being in a boy band is utterly ridiculous, especially with the voice synthesizer cheat. Still, if you can deal with the premise, the first two acts are pretty solid overall. Each of the songs are complete dead-on parodies of such corny lyrics that were prevalent in that music era. I thought NSync's appearance was funny too, in a tongue-in-cheek way. I kinda like the huge wacky fangirly "IT'S NSYNC!!!" that Milhouse yells, and their entrance (to the music) is both silly and fitting for them, for some reason.
Like others, I do think the episode really falls flat in the third act. Pretty right when they introduce the Mad Magazine thing. The plot is already hanging by a thread, and then they have to go and blowup the Mad Magazine building? Pretty, um, questionable decision right there.
3/5. Pretty funny overall, but dogged by a lousy Act 3 and a gimmicky premise.
I actually love this episode.
"That hippie fantasy again?"
"They're getting less frequent, sir."
"It's a three-pronged attack. Sub-liminal, liminal and super-liminal."
"Superliminal?"
"I'll show you. HEY YOU! JOIN THE NAVY!"
"Uh, yeah, all right."
"I'm in!"

Unbiased, in terms of the quality of the episode, it's about a 2.5/5. Not that great of an episode.
This episode has, though, become one of my biggest guilty pleasures. It's one of the most quoted episodes between my friends and I.

2/5
Only I laughted with the machine that change of kids's voice. The rest is very boring.
1/5, I know I want it.
Guilty pleasure - 2.5/5 rounded down to 2.
The third act didn't do good to the episode IMA
A 1.5 rounded up to a 2/5 for the polls.
