    Either a dig at silly ol event driven songs (like that Israel/America song that was on Jon Stewart tonight), or a scene that was inserted as filler material. Since there weren't any other clear signs of this episode being low on content (that I can remember), I'd be willing to go with the first excuse. Having said that, I think the joke was a little silly, a little long and a little on the unfunny side.

    Not too bad of an episode, actually. Homer's subplot was a bit disturbing at more than a couple moments (him dribbling Maggie around the house like a basketball was too much for me), but I thought the main plot was pretty good and had some solid gags. I loved the little dig at Jasper repeating the same joke and the other elderly people getting a kick out of it every time. The third act got a little out-of-hand (in usual Scully fashion), but it did at least progress to that point somewhat logically, unlike so many S10, 11, and 12 episodes. And yeah, tying together the two plots in such an unorthodox way was fairly clever, if ridiculous.

    I don’t know what do people hate about this episode, except for the ship ending. It’s not one of my favorites, but I really enjoy it. Grampa and the seniors have always been my favorites in the show, and they all shined in this episode.

    We have a wacky idea of Olympic games being held in Springfield in the beginning, and also many memorable gags, such as Homer’s springy mascot, Bart’s comedy routine (this was absolutely insane), and Bart thinking he’ll be working at a Fireworks, candy and puppydog store, before realizing he’ll have to work at Retirement Castle.

    Then the seniors start bringing in some even better classic moments: Grampa being happy because of winning a banana on bingo, ‘’You sunk my battleship’’ , ‘’I want some taquitos’’ and many other hilarious lines. Meanwhile, Homer’s subplot wasn’t quite as fresh and original, but it was still very funny, especialy because of Homer’s ideas of using the springs. I disliked the joke with a spring in Lenny’s eye, though.

    The scenes with seniors having fun to the tune of ‘’Can’t by me love’’ were a bit too weird, but still OK. I thought the way the plot got solved was an interesting link between the two stories, but it was another one of those unrealistic moments in the show that I don’t accept.

    The way to lead the subplot to the main story is quite brilliant, but the rest is pretty average. 3/5 or B-

    This used to be my favorite of the 1oth season, but now I don't like it so much. Favorite parts:

    1. Bart doing the imitation: "Kiss me or I'll crush You!" {Plus the fact Homer was laughing}
    2. Gone With The Wind: "Frankly My Dear, {Voice over} "I love you, let's remarry!" {Edited For Seniors}
    3. The folks doing all kind of crazy stuff outside to that NRBQ song

    Season 10 continues when Bart is forced into community service! DUN DUN DUUUUUNNNNNNNN!!!!!! But first the official Olympic committee, inspired by a letter written by Springfield's own little miss Lisa Simpson, has decided to bring the Olympics there. In anticipation Homer has even thought of an annual mascot: Springy the Springfield Spring! When the committee arrives everything goes off without a hitch until Bart starts doing a standup routine. He insults them all and they leave. The town is upset and Bart and his fellow classmates are punished by being forced into doing community service. For Bart this means spending time at the Springfield Retirement Castle!

    Bart is appalled at the way they treat the elderly. Lisa, who volunteers of her own free will, explains that this is appropriate but Bart disagrees. Meanwhile Homer has received a shipment of Springy springs and must now try and somehow either sell them or just get rid of them. Eventually Bart manages to convince the elderly that they need to have some fun and they go on a boat. Unfortunately it breaks and not even Jack Lalanne can save them. Thankfully Springy comes to their rescue as we end the episode with Grampa and Bart sharing a bonding moment.

    This one hits me rather hard because I also had to volunteer at an old folks home because of school, though I was much older than Bart. Still, I can definitely relate to some of the sentiments here particularly the scenes involving bingo...anyway a fairly solid episode overall. I love the Springy B plot and all the scenes with Homer and the springs are very funny. I love him using Maggie as a basketball. The tieing up of the two plots with the springs is also very nicely done. Other highlights include the edited version of Gone with the Wind, the several Cuckoo's Nest references, and Grampa-Homer. I'll say a 3.5/5, rounded up to a 4/5 on the poll.

    A Decent Episode For Season 10, Nothing Special Though

    'The Old Man and the 'C' Student' probably sits somewhere in the middle in the middle in terms of Season 10 episodes. It has strengths, then again, there are problems with some aspects of the plot.

    Humour wise, the episode is quite good. There were some funny moments in the first act. The 'Intercourse' and 'Lake Titicaca' jokes weren't great, but I can sort of appreciate them, because they are the kind of jokes that nowadays would be dragged out and explained, despite their obviousness. The second act was probably the funniest of the three acts. There were some pretty funny scenes at the old folks home, including the changed version of 'Gone With The Wind' and Bart playing with Grandpa's face. I also liked how the old people found Jasper's 'You sunk my battleship!' hilarious. Homer's spring subplot gave some funny moments, like when he attempts to sell them to Skinner. However, the joke where Lenny and Moe get the springs in their eyes caught to each other made me cringe - not because it was bad, but because it was pretty nasty. The third act had some funny moments.

    The plot was not so good. Holding the Olympics in an American town did seem kind of stupid - then again, with a nuclear power plant, a gorge, numerous ecosystems, and God knows what else, Springfield isn't the average American town really. The Olympic thing seemed kind of unecessary - it went on for most of the first act, and the connection with the rest of the plot was weak. The plot was generally strong throughout the second act, but did become wacky in the third act, with the way Bart, Lisa and the old people being saved. However, it was good to see the plot and the subplot link together, rather than exist as two separate entities. Jack LaLanne seemed a bit unecessary, as his presence didn't really advance the story much. Still, nothing too bad.

    Overall this is a decent Season 10 episodes. There are a fair few episodes from the season that are worse than this, but this lacks the 'oomph' to be one of the best of the season.

    2/5. The Olympics part is great as is everything involving Homer and his patented Springy. Other than that, bleh.
