    R&R Hungry, Hungry Homer

I know there's a thread New Kids... v Hungry Hungry... but there seems to be no reviews just the obvious answer HHH!.

So what did you think of the ep?

I thought it was excellent. Infact I couldn't find hardly ANYTHING wrong with the episode. Homer was excellent. If felt like a classic year episode. Very funny great plot and a nice ending

CLASSIC A/A+ peerhaps not an A+ due to the idea of Homer not eating food for 12 days is a bit OTT!

PS Sorry forgot 2 put poll in other thread!

A really nice episode that, as I've mentioned, feels out of place in Season 12 because it doesn't carry any of the hallmarks of the Scully era. Hilariously funny when needed, and Homer is the hero and gets what he wants in the end. Lots of unexpected humour (The snowglobe, river made of blocks) and hilarious stuff too (Homer sticking up for everyone, the mirage, and the ending). Definitely in my top 5 for this season. Grade A-

You think THAT's bad? What about that time when I was turned into a Tetris block?

4/5. Pretty good episode, a gem stuck among poop.

This is, easily, one of the best episodes of the Scully Era. Somehow, in spite of everything, they managed to make an episode that makes sense, stays grounded in reality, and keeps the characters in character. Not to shabby. A/A-

This is one of the best episodes of season twelve and the Scully era in general. Homer was very empathetic. Jokes never stopped, and for once, they didn't fall flat.

4/5 - an interesting episode, playing with three different plots in a "smooth" way.

Good idea, some good gags but a little boring overall. Seems more like an Al Jean episode than Scully´s one. 4/5, being VERY generous.

    Fantastic episode - 5/5

The state Homer gets in with the hunger strike is all hillarious stuff.

Overall an above-average episode for Season 12. My main complaint is the opener in Blockoland - they had done this WAY too much in the Scully era. Other than that, the plot flowed smoothly and it was pretty funny. I gave it a 4/5.
Bart: "Please don't call our parents!"
Chief: "I'm afraid I have to for hijinks like these. Hijinks - it's a funny word. Three dotted letters in a row."
    Eddie: "Is it hyphenated?"
Chief: "It used to be, back in the good old days, you know. Of course, every generation hyphenates the way it wants to. Then there's *NSYNC! What the hell is that? Jump in any time there, Eddie, these are good topics."

Really don't like this episode as much as I used to, and a lot of that problem is that it's still a Scully-era Homer episode with typical Scully-era trademarks. There's too much of a shtick-of-the-week feeling in Homer's characterization, his compulsion to help the little guy not developed in a way that is logical to his character, but more in that over-the-top "That's the kind of guy I am this week" kind of way, where he gets an interest/occupation/ect for whatever reason (hippy, body guard, inventor, ect) and goes completely overboard with that interest in wild, wacky ways. Not to quite the extreme as those examples, but more in tune with that kind of characterization instead of any real development. Not to mention the plot has another of the many evil Scully corporations that just seem to pop around a lot during his time as show runner (though again better than the norm). And the episode has its fair share of those just plain weird lame gags as well ("'You knocked his block off' 'Come with me'", Marge fattening the kids, and the entire ending sequence to name a few). However, there's a lot of good points too. There's actually a plot in here, the story not shaped simply around Homer's strange obsession, who's crusade to help the little guy isn't just for easy laughs at Homer but actually used in a coherent plot. The evil corporation is actually pretty relevant with the new Duff owned Springfield Isotopes (which as an aside Duff buying the Isotopes is probably the best use of a topical issue in the Scully era I can think of) trying to move the team, not a zoo forcing octuplets to perform or conspiring restaurant owners or some shit. And the episode is pretty funny too, the spirit of Cesar Chavez, pretty much everything Duffman said and did, the Peanuts tribute, "I'm kinda like Jesus, but not in a sacrilegious way", and Blocko Land sticking out. So it's by no means a bad episode, second best of season 12. But lacking in a lot of ways, and outdone by many, many, many episodes since. B-

Hungry Hungry Homer is easily the best of Season 12, and I haven't even seen the last two episodes. For once, you could say, Scully got Homer right.

4/5. Good episode, a highlight of the Scully era. Still, a few things stop it from being a 5/5.

    R&R Hungry, Hungry Homer

    Terribly underrated.

Homer is in great character and the jokes are excellent. Great plot too. I sometimes wonder had this of been in the Jean era it would of been liked more. A
