    Viva Ned Flanders

Flanders 60? Not funny. A lot of lame jokes and Homer didn't seem to care that he was married. Had it's moments though. B-/C+

Not the worst episode ever by any means.
Ned Flanders is always an interesting character and he remains so here. The scenes with him and his family are well done.
There's also a few good gags, ie the car wash scene, Lance Murdocks stunt, Homer imagining having two wives, and the Moody Blues.
Downsides - Homer is about as irritating as he can get in this episode. I actually end up hating him.
Too many bad jokes - will Homer ever shut up about gang-probing aliens???.
Neds newly discovered age - I'm sure they didn't have to make us believe Ned was 60 to get the same message across.

An average episode whlch I give 5/10

    3. Some of it was kind of stupid, and it had too much wacky stuff in it. And Ned is 60 years old?!?! !@#$!@#$% off.

    4/5

I'm sorry, but I found the episode absolutely hysterical the whole way through. The only real quibble was Ned's age. They could have come up with a better excuse for Homer to take Ned to Vegas.

It's "The Homer Show" - the only Simpson we see after the opening minutes of act 2 are Homer. The only Springfieldian we see after the opening minutes of act 2...

Scully used the episode idea grab-bag*. He wrote down a bunch of inane ideas nobody would like, drew one out...then drew out a load that were too down-to-earth and decided they were all practises**.

    D+

Not only is the plotline ridiculous and the marriage situation incredibly sitcommy, but Homer is irritating and the majority of the jokes are just woeful - the whole casino bit just serves to remind me how much better Jean has since done meta-references, the car wash is lame, there's a routine for Scully-era chase scene, an ending that makes exactly zero sense and....how could David Stern of Duffless brilliance have been a part of this?

Veryjammy makes sense. It was also a poor gimmick, revealing Ned Flanders to be 60. Doesn't make sense, since his parents were beatnicks. D

This is one of the worst Homers in history. As Terrier Williger said, they didn't have to make us believe Ned was 60 to get the same message across. It's a good story idea, he thinks his life has been boring and he wants a change, but he doesn't have to be 60 to feel that way.

The situation with the wifes is not great, but it's probably the most decent part in the episode, which makes it a little memorable.

I remember the animation to be awful in this one and yeah, the ending is pretty dumb (what a strange thing during Scully era).

    Anyway, it's a D.

Erk. Another one from Season 10 I hate with every inch of my body. For starters, it completely ruins Ned's character, not only by revealing his age as 60, but having him want to be more exciting. Homer was a jerk to Ned throughout and the Vegas wife 3rd act was a poor attempt to parody (?) "Friends". Throughout the entire thing, there's not even one decent joke that can keep you pre-occupied during this really dull travesty of an episode. In fact, I can't even recall ONE attempt at a joke, even a decent one, it was just a poor quality episode that had one of the worst plots ever. The entire opening scenes just switch from completely confusing and unrelated things. Casino getting exploded, garage, Ned's 60... they all just come out of the blue, and the fact there's no jokes to make you forget that it's completely random doesn't help at all. Not to mention we finish this trash-TV-style episode with a personal favourite of Scully: a Homer (and Ned) pain gag. I'd much rather be raped by a zebra with a hat on, than sit through this utter piece of garbage. The show has wasted 21 minutes of my life and I feel violated. F

I rewatched this last night and it's actually worse than I remembered. I agree with Butters, there are basically no jokes in this episode at all, Homer is AWFUL (pretending to phone Maude for example is so mean, the way Flanders says 'thanks buddy' and then Homer sniggers) and the plot is dreadful. Really poor animation too.

D- redeemed only by 3 funny moments, Homer's dream about 2 wives, Cletus at the car wash, and Homer saying 'Welcome to my world'

A very bad episode. The 'follow up' to it was even worse, and of course was voted best episode ever on Sky's top ten a few years back.

Yeah, I loathe how in nearly every single episode in the Scully era Homer says "suckers" to someone he's just tricked, at a volume where they can hear him no problem. It's ridiculous.

3/5 It wasn't too bad. Can't understand why everyone hates some episodes, I usually like all of them, all I care about is entertainment, and I found this one preetty entertaining, but not too great. B-- or C+

Good, very good infact. Lots of good jokes and the plot is fine, but the only bad point is Ned's age, which is stupid and pathetic.

Looking back, Viva Ned Flanders has all the makings of a bad episode: a huge continuity error in the middle of it (Flander's age), Homer acting like a wanker, the unnecessarily ambiguous ending and Ned's out of character Homer-isms, not to mention the virtual silencing of Bart, Lisa and Marge. The premise is also cliched: a trip to Vegas gone bad. However, I find myself enjoying watching it through to the end, for some bizarre reason. Maybe that's because it has its moments - Homer and Ned's drunken marriage and the following chase through the casino, as well as their entrance into Las Vegas. For these reasons, I cannot give Viva Ned Flanders a low grade, as it is to me, equal with critically-acclaimed overrated episodes like King-Size Homer. In other words, it gets a C+, as it is at least better than the Italian Bob.

When I first saw this episode I considered it a classic. I've brought it down a point or so since rewatching it a couple of times. The premise though ridiculous, is still very funny. The backstory can be excused because the idea of getting Homer and Ned together in Vegas is delicious. Some of the gags wear a little thin, for example the Lance Murdoch sequence, but the highlight surely has to be the sight of the boys waking up in the hotel room and the ensuing chaos. "Smooth move, Flanders!" 4/5.

The only joke I remember liking from this episode is the "flawless Flanders"/"stinky-pants Simpson" sequence, I enjoyed Homer's glee in rubbing that in Ned's face. The rest of the episode is utter crap. Calling the events of the last third sitcommy is an insult to sitcoms. Most sitcoms I've seen are much more intelligent than that. 1/5
