I'm not losing sleep over the different cover. It's not like I'm gonna have to re-arrange my living room to accommodate the change, and I doubt my friends will stop coming over because my season 6 cover looks different than the rest...sheesh. With apologies to Bobbi Fleckman, "look at The White Album...there was nothing on that goddamn cover."

    And I won't doubt if Marge's cover will be a cardboard fold-out...

edit to add: BTW, ALL the DVD sets say "collector's edition", not just season 6 (in response to one of the earlier posts)...

Now that we know this will be the actual box, I'm wondering why there isn't any label on the spine. How will we be able to tell them apart if they're stored against each other on a bookshelf? Other than that though, I like it. Though I'm hoping it'll be designed well inside too, and not just blank yellow plastic. One thing I'm going to miss is how the pictures on the disc fit with what was under them on the fold out case. But oh well, maybe they'll think of something even better now.

You know, this also means they might possibly re-release the first five seasons in this type of packaging later on.

So there's not another box inside? Shit.

*Sigh* Maybe I can learn to like this one...

Not only that , but since the four discs will all be nessled snuggly against the inside walls of the head, where will the guide book and Matt Groening's note be placed? Is it possible that there could still be fold out pannels?

They will probably shrink their heads down to a size that will fit in the racks at Wal-Mart.

I wonder if they are going to use the hard plastic, like the Star Trek O.S. DVD sets, or if they will use cheap plastic that dents and cracks easily.

By the way, I would buy a DVD set that looks like Lisa's head. I want it for the content inside. If you are too insecure to walk into a store to buy a set with Lisa or Maggie's head on it, you are very pathetic.

THIS HAS BEEN A FILMWAYS PRESENTATION!

Don't know if this is directed at me or VeryJammy at all. For the record, I very much agree with you (and I'm sure Jammy does also), and would even buy a Lisa head FIRST if given the chance, but in terms of marketing it to certain groups of people (especcially, say, idiot 15 year old males) it could prove to be problematic for them.
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

Personally, I like the idea of a solid box rather than the thing with the sleeve. I keep misplacing those damn sleeves.

And I'd like to say that the idea that having boxes shaped like the heads of the female characters will hurt sales of those seasons is absolutely ridiculous...but having seen as many "OMG Marge and Lisa episodes suck cuz girls is icky!!!!!!!!!!!" posts as I have, I can't.

Meh. I, for one, am a member of the "teen male" demographic, and I'd be perfectly fine buying a box with Marge or Maggie on it. It's the actual content that counts, right? As long as they have the episodes and commentaries with some special features, I'll be perfectly satisfied.

That's ridiculous...they didn't have to change the box structure just to change the normal size. Season 1 has only 3 discs, but it still got along just fine with the same struct as 2-5. Take a geometry lesson, structure is almost completely unrelated to size.

Erm... i doubt that if the second set of 5 are the family tjhe first 5 would have to be town members and it would be wierd with oe like season 1 or something . they are going to keep the original for 1-5

Anyway i like the new ones

Hmmm, I'm not too keen on the new format. As many have said before me, it would have been cool to have each one lined up nicely on the shelf. But as an actual single design i think it's quite cool.

This is what's irritating me the most. Has anyone got a DVD that doesn't say what it is on the spine? It's the most basic of things, how can they not incorporate it into the design? What sort of design team do they have working on this project!

Pathetic Fox, you've really messed this one up.

Why is the apparently blank spine annoying so many people? It's not like you won't know what it is. It's a huge yellow box! You'll have four others come 2007/8, each with its own distinctive character shape assigned to a season. I'm just wondering how they're gonna do Marge...I mean, it has to be Marge's standard head and hair, otherwise she'll look really shitty.

I certainly have no problem with it, Lisa episodes are my favourite in general. However having been to the official forum and seen all the 'Marge and Lisa SUX!!!! They are SO BORING, they should kill Lisa off' threads, I do think that they may be likely to suffer. I'd be interested to see final sales figures for all of those.

In fact does anyone have sales figures for the first 5 seasons? Just out of interest....I wouldn't know where to start looking for them.

It is too late - if you think writing a petiton will make even a slight amount of difference, then please go ahead.
The new boxes will sell better, because they are more eye catching. I don't know about all of you, but if I see an interesting or unique looking box in a store, I am more likely to pick it up and look at it.
I happen to not like the new style very much, but I think that it's a smart marketing move.

But that's just it, it's not a smart marketing move, because it looks like a childrens toy, and the sales probably wont be so good for marge and lisa boxsets.

That's the most annoying that fox constantly do, not only do they screw fans over, their moves don't make good marketing sense.

  22. #112

I don't understand people's thinking that these sets will sell better. If you're a diehard fan, you already have some of the sets and will most likely buy this one. A casual fan who doesn't own any seasons won't all of a sudden buy the sixth volume just because it's the most eye cathing (ugly) thing on the shelf.

Who did they test it on, five year olds? I have a hard time imagining that most adults and older teens would like it better than the old ones. And most dvd sales will be from people who are between say 15 and 30, who probably don't like this design as much as the old one.

As for the spine, they should have one, because every book, cd, vhs, and dvd, that I have, have writing on the spine. It won’t be that much of a problem until both the Lisa and the Maggie sets are released because those two would look similar from the side.

Yeah, because you might have to look through FIVE whole boxsets until you find the one you want.

This is the most horrible thing that has ever happened in the history of human existence.

FOX is anally raping the loyal fanbase by doing this.

I'm not buying this, and I'm going to put all five previous seasons in the oven and melt them because it's not fair.

    Come on guys... seriously. Chill.

Bad news that this is definitely the box, I was hoping it would be a case and the more I see it, the more it looks like a stupid children's toy. I never thought the DVD's would go the same way as so much cheap Simpsons merchandise, but this DVD proves it. The only thing Fox hadn't previously messed up is now ruined!

I'm wondering who exactly the Fox reps tested this set on? A bunch of casual viewers probably. They should have consulted the real fans before making such a huge change to the presentation. Also, did they test the Lisa/Maggie/Marge box sets on them too? Because they are likely to be much more unpopular than a Homer head.

Maybe they'll figure out that Marge, Lisa and Maggie won't really get bought before they make them. Then they'll switch to some new format right away, and all we'll have for heads are Homer and Bart head DVDs and nobody else in the family to go with them.

Marge set is going to look ridiculous, the only way I can see it being possible is having just a short stub of hair...

I don't really see the problem, Paul (unless you were being sarcastic)...can't you just put things in order?

Yeah, we know that it's not a case with the box inside it...so, sorry if this has already been confirmed, but does anyone know how the discs are packaged inside?
