hol-e shit...to be honest, i think it looks quite nice, but are you sure it's gonna fit on the shelf? and how the hell would they do marge? Maybe that's just an outer coating for the dvd, with the real set being inside...

and what is it made of? it looks plastic to me...

It's not the change that bugs me about this. It's the fact that this is UGLY as sin. I've never liked box sets shaped as anything (or rounded box sets). Plus, way too much yellow, and only shows off one family member. I mean, Homer's popular, but having a big Marge or Maggie head for one of the next seasons is not appealing at all (plus, the Marge design will undoubtably be lame since her hair will be chopped off). THUMBS DOWN

Yep, I have to agree with everyone else is saying. Looks cheap and the old ones are much much better.

I wish they did this in Season 9 or 10, then it would stand out The nice ones; glory years; the tacky ones- not the glory years!

    Well here's my prediction:

In a few weeks we'll find out that this is a just outer packaging that encloses the real case, which is in the exact same style as the previous five box sets.

It makes sense. Imagine seeing a huge box in the shape of Homer's head sitting next to a bunch of plain boxed DVDs. Which would you be more interested in? And if the same creative team is behind the box set's design, they're not going to give up the beautiful packaging style they've been using - especially since Fox has never changed any other TV series' packaging (other than going from regular to slim cases). It wouldn't make sense to suddenly completely redesign their best selling TV-DVD set. Plus, it would be easier to just add an outer case than to design entirely new (and very unique) packaging that will hold everything. My guess is that they only wanted to release this image for now, and we'll have to wait for the press release to see the real cover artwork.

But then again, I could be entirely wrong on this.

If you look at the image closely, you'll that this is clearly ust a thin front piece. There's no hinge (or seam) on the visible edge that would indicate that Homer's head can be opened and the disks found inside. My guess is that this fits over a rectangular box which can be fully detached from the head (and which may or may not have a design in keeping with the older sets).
    Season rankings: 4, 7, 2, 3, 6, 5, 8, 15, 1, 16, 9, 14, 13, 17, 12, 10, 11

NOOOO! Why have they changed it? I would have much preferred a simple box design to this very odd-shaped DVD! How will it fit with the other DVD's on the shelf?
Nevertheless, I'm glad they are doing all 5 family members - it'll be cool once they are all in a line on the shelf. I only wish they could have done this from the beginning with different characters for the sake of continuity.
Something that's puzzling me, though - what are the dimensions of this boxset? The same as the others, or slightly bigger? From the picture it looks too thin to hold 4 DVDs? I suppose when you open it, they will be arranged in Homer's brain as thoughts.
Mixed feelings about this overall - it looks good, but just doesn't go with the others.

Hmmm. I was hoping for an 'inanimate carbon rod' green, with the same box format of the first five seasons, but I can't say this pisses me off. Kinda like it. As long as the eternal greatness of season six is enclosed within, I don't mind. I didn't exactly plan on lining up the seasons on my shelf and staring at them all day. I like the fact that it's annoying so many people. Kudos to Fox.

Guys, it's clearly obvious why they're doing this.........with 25 episodes in Seasons 6-9, they couldn't possibly make the old box style work.....a disc can hold six episodes with commentary and perhaps a tiny extra feature or two.......I guarantee that Season 6 will be a five disc set, which means they would have had to change the box structure anyway (make it larger)......

I rather like the change so far.

So many things are wrong in this post. First, Fox officially announced that it will be a four disc set over a month ago. Second, there's no way you, not being part of the production of these box sets, could possibly say how many Simpsons episodes will fit on a DVD disc. And lastly, even if a set would need to have more than four discs, it can easily be packaged in a fold-out case. Have you ever seen any of The X Files' box sets?

  13. #73

In my opinion, even if the sixth season will consists of five dvds, old style box is also appropriate. It is not a good explanation, because box-sets can contain much more than four or five. For example The X-Files box-sets contain up to 7 dvds.

Another negative point I've just realised - they've given the DVD covers up to S10 away, as they will be each family member, so there'll be no more cover art surprises until S11!
Also, that Homer head cover is awful, as the hairs don't appear on it - it shows him as bald, which isn't right, adding insult to injury!

  15. #75

Ridiculous. Seriously, someone is going to have to e-mail FOX about this. Perhaps if we can find out if it does contain the standard boxes inside before release, and if it doesn't we MAY be able to stop it if we bombard FOX with angry e-mails.

I am reluctant to buy this set if it's released with such a cover. And that's coming from the person who probably most wanted this season. I've only seen 8 or so episodes from Season 6, and I'd willing pass them up to avoid having such a horrible thing adorning the darkness of my cupboards. And the R2 version will look even worse, with an oversized "12" certificate on.

Count me in as a person who likes the design... the other 5 sets look rather boring on the outside, they're just cardboard boxes.

Of course, there are plenty of reasons why you could hate the new design as well.
Bart: "Please don't call our parents!"
Chief: "I'm afraid I have to for hijinks like these. Hijinks - it's a funny word. Three dotted letters in a row."
    Eddie: "Is it hyphenated?"
Chief: "It used to be, back in the good old days, you know. Of course, every generation hyphenates the way it wants to. Then there's *NSYNC! What the hell is that? Jump in any time there, Eddie, these are good topics."

Thompson and Butters and others can you please stop saying "someone is going to have to e-mail fox" I mean if your so concerned then why don't you do it?

Also people that aren't buying the boxset (Butters) because of the cover are being silly IMO. I mean the reason your buying it is for the episodes/commentries....right?

Sorry if that sounds rude but it's true...

yes, but i'm not having some horrid tin box, which will most likely be fucking freezing, sitting around. it's a horrible way to treat the fans, as nearly everyone else said they liked the design of the previous ones, and i am honestly not going to have such a bland and awful bitch of a cover displaying the set with 5 other sets that i love dearly.

    I HATE IT!

Also this will undoubtedly affect sales. Think about it, most Simpsons fans are male, a lot of them teens. How many of them are going to want to go and buy a giant Lisa head in their local shop? Not many I imagine. Poor show Fox

I'm sorry but that's silly. It's a bit tacky? a shame. But surley not buying it becuase of that is madness!!

Maybe there should be a poll

" Do you like the new cover "

Then maybe fox will read it and see the fans don't like it...

I am one of those OCD types who hates discontinuity. If this is the actual casing, it's going to unnerve me for a long time. But on closer inspection of the picture, I see that, except for the top of Homer's head, the rest of the case is clearly a box with corners. It also says that this box is a "collector's edition." I bet that the inside will contain the box we all know and love and that the Homer head is just going to be the casing when the DVD is first released. Then after a while, they will start selling the dvds without the Homer head.

This looks like a damn kids toy! Maybe Fox should lay off the Macky D's, playing with their Happy Meal toys. Obviously the poor diet and tacky toys has gone to their heads! Please say this is a horrible dream, and the real box is inside. Then I can disgard that tacky coffin of a case and burry it in the garden where it belongs...

Season 6 of all Seasons, my favorite Season, why oh why cruel cruel world? This should have been Season 11's case as a joke, it would have been the most funny thing about it...

While I'm not a big fan of the art, I have to say that I'd rather have it August 16 than have the set delayed so they can change it.

All the boxed sets say "Collector's Edition". I'm astounded at how angry everyone is over the box. Who cares if it doesn't match your others? It will match the upcoming ones and will look awesome with them by its side. This box looks much more fresh and the mettalic cardboard on the others did get dented pretty easily. I'm also sure they'll have the regular box inside, which I think would make it even better than it already looks. Can't wait 'til it hits store shelves.

I feel the complete opposite, I'd rather wait an extra month or two. I know it seems a bit sad and obsessive but these are probably my most prized possesions that are being messes with.

The discs are inside; not a regular box. This is a completely new box style, which will match seasons 6-10.

Very true, unfortunately. Assuming this is just an overcover (new post above me says it isn't...DAMN IT. Time to send some e-mails) it would probably work better if they issued all five heads at once and allowed collectors to gradually get all five as more sets came out. On their own, some of the future sets are going to be hurt because some people just don't like Marge or Lisa, even people here like Silverlimit. I wouldn't want to see these sets have to slow down to a halt due to a poor marketing choice.
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

I dislike it too, mainly because it doesn't match. I also find it a little ugly, same idea could have been done in a less odd-looking way. This seems too big and 3D. It's the kind of thing that would look good in a shop but it would look weird in your home shelves. The only good thing is that it looks more difficult to bent or break, while the other sets were a little easy to get bent.
