Definitely what the Simpsons should be all about. Excellent.

"Gum used to seal crack in cooling tower."
"I'm as shocked as you are!"
I've always wanted to use the line "the voters now see you as imperial and god-like" in a political story.
"You're looking lovely this evening. Have you decreased in mass?"

A wonderful episode. Great family portrait, great depiction of Burns as evil incarnate (I LOVE the Citizen Kane references - was this the first time they dipped into that well?), great lines ("You are noble & poetic in defeat, sir" amongst others) - a classic. 5/5.
Good episode with good Burns characterization and a good look at politics interesting way of fitting the simpsons and a pretty solid episode.4.5/5

"Look, Marge, you don't know what it's like. I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And i'm not out of order! You're out of order. The whole freaking system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth! Because when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it, Marge. It's Chinatown!" - Homer's rant.
A early, and great example of the Simpsons knack with political humor. Hilarious and very clever, especially for early season 2. 5/5
"Attention Duelists!"

This is the #1 Citizen Kane reference ever
Definitely a great eraly episode with Mr. Burns and an interesting storyline with Mr. Burns campaigning to be Governor. 4.5/5
overrated, 3.5/5 (C)
4/5, Exellent!

Absolutely brilliant. One of the best and most well-written examples of political satire I have ever seen. Characterization, plot and dialogue were well above excellence. I think this is perhaps one of the best episodes of the show in its history. 5/5
Sideshow Bob Roberts just beats it in political satire, but it's still pretty damn good. a

2/5, i'm sorry, but this is such a boring episode with hardly any jokes. maybe later i will rewatch it and my grade will be higher
Classic episode, great satire and the first episode to give a secondary character a starring role. Burns is in perfect form here (even if his voice is still a little off), and this is the best Homer characterization thus far, too. I love this exchange at the beginning:
BART: I'm Bart Simpson, who the hell are you?
DAVE SHUTTON: I'm Dave Shutton, and in my day kids didn't talk to their elders that way
BART: Well, this is my day sir, and we do!
Also, I love Burns talking about having the Simpsons killed. Like most of Season 2, it goes for the emotional ending, but this time it doesn't seem too sappy like it does in some episodes ("Bart Gets Hit by a Car"). This is probably the first really laugh-out-loud episode of the series, and, needless to say, the first I give a 15/15

I really don't like it much. (Maybe because I've never seen Citizen Kane)

Hard not to like this one. One of the edgier episodes of season 2 in regards to its political satire. I think I'm appreciating season 2 more now. 4/5
I think this episode is overrated. I've never really liked this episode. I just think it's dull and boring. 3/5
You can do anything if you put your mind to it.
Everything happens for a reason.
Just be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.
Don't worry about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.
^ Incisive criticism!
But seriously what's not to love?
The plot is too slow and uninteresting for me. I also don't remember many funny gags. The animation is also not very good, but I can't really complain because it's season 2.

Well I believe the plot develops at typical Simpsons speed, introducing a conflict in the first act only to develop in the second, and then resolve it in the third. The episode is even replete with montages that speed things along. Quite a quick pace if you ask me. I suppose it is your place to call something uninteresting, but Burns running for governor is one of the most dynamic ideas for a story, oozing with plentiful opportunities for trenchant political gags. I failed to notice any frame-rate errors or instances of inconsistency, save for a close-up of Homer's mouth that gets the coloring wrong. Animation seems smooth to me, with quite the sufficiency of cinematic directorial techniques. Are you seeing something I'm not?
You don't have to respond; I'm just in the mood for essay nerd-ism.
To be fair, I haven't seen this one in awhile. I guess I'll give it another go. Those things I mentioned might not apply to my opinions after another view. I'll also try not to dismiss it for being season 2.
Great episode, 4/5.
Guns don't kill people. Physics kill people!
Mr Burns drunk
deserves a 4/5 just for that. A bit boring here and there I suppose.....
