    Worst of season 5 :

The first appearance of Jerkass Homer
    Disjointed and paper-thin plot
    Some horribly off-model animation

I'd still give it a B- because it still manages to be very funny in parts ('heeello, that sounded like a pig falling') but it really is a precursor to how Homer would become under Scully

    3.5/5

Good episode, though slightly overrated. The deleted scenes from the episode seen in the Season 5 DVD are actually funnier than anything in the cut version.

It's a funny gag episode, but Homer does get annoying at times and it's basically the Family Guy pilot. Not a bad thing necessarily. B/B-

Maybe a bit overrated, but it is one of season 5's funniest episodes.

I liked it. Turns out Homer really sucks at school; first he didn't get his high school diploma, and then he never actually went to college.

I agree with most of the usual faults of this episode, but probably to a lesser degree. I voted 4/5 because this episode is so damn funny.

This is NOT the birth of jerk-ass Homer.
Anyone ever see "When Flanders Failed", "Lisa the Greek", or "A Streetcar Named Marge"??

Even further back: "World War III". Now that was a jerkass thing to do.

As usual people are confusing Jerkass Homer with Homer being selfish and ignorant which are character traits of his.

There is a world of difference between Homer being uninterested in a play, or not really considering Lisa's feelings about daddy daughter day, and running over the Dean, shouting out at nerds etc. This is the episode that tipped him over from dumb, ignorant but ultimately good-natured Homer, to thick, idiotic, loud, mean-spirited Homer. Luckily this was the most dislikable I ever found him until season 9.

    4/5, though it would've been a 5/5 episode of Family Guy. Hi-larious.
Bart: "Please don't call our parents!"
Chief: "I'm afraid I have to for hijinks like these. Hijinks - it's a funny word. Three dotted letters in a row."
    Eddie: "Is it hyphenated?"
Chief: "It used to be, back in the good old days, you know. Of course, every generation hyphenates the way it wants to. Then there's *NSYNC! What the hell is that? Jump in any time there, Eddie, these are good topics."

Look at me, agreeing with do what donny don't does...for the most part.

This is a pure classic, and if Homer is a jerkass here, I love jerkass Homer.

Definetely one of the worst of the classic era. Jerkass Homer is in his full glory, ill even go as far to say that he is actually worse here than in quite early season 9 (real jerkass started around middle season 9 imo, before that he was annoying but still bareable.) Also humour is pretty average and the plot is slightly rushed. At the time quite alot of fans must have been pretty worried about Mirkin and what he was going to do to the show. (was this his ffirst EP'ed ep?) C

Rosebud was the first episode of the Season 5 line but Homer Goes to College was aired a week before it. So I imagine fans were worried, but at least they got a stone-cold classic the following week. Not that the SNPP episode capsules reflect that, but the reviews in those capsules are nothing but bitching and moaning anyway.

It fails in plot development and has lots of Jerkass Homer, but I find it funny, so... overrated, but still good.

    3.5/5 rounded up.

It's kind of the birth of jerkass Homer but he is still funny and likeable. He only hurts the Dean and maybe the pig, but he befriended the nerds and acted like a normal person with Marge. My problem is more that he was too stupid, I dislike the scene with Homer and the other dumb twosome being in charge of the bee...and Homer still being the dumbest of the group by leaving the bee escape (it's kind of a silly joke to begin with). I watched it recently and the animation seems kind of rushed for today standards. Anyway I really enjoyed the National Lampoon's rip-off spoofs, the nerd characters and some Burns and smither's lines in the first act. 4/5

Almost forgot...I also liked the deleted scenes. None of them were silly and they would have worked pretty well in my opinion.

Oh, and I agree with California Prunes statement, Homer is near to his early season 9 self and it wasn't the only time for Mirkin. He was more annoying in the whole A Star is Burns and in the third act of Boy Scoutz N The Hood (luckily first act of that episode features great classic Homer lines).

Jerkass Homer? Man, he's hilarious in this episode. I don't really know what 'jerkass' constitutes, but it can't be worse than 'constantly crying and screaming Homer'. This is nothing less than genius, (the best bit being when Homer laughs for around a minute at the professor), but it's also a sore reminder of how brilliant Conan O' Brian's episodes were before he packed up and left.

Ha ha, I love that part. It's Amazing how something so simple can be so damn funny.

P.S. Youre talking about the professor dropping his note cards in class, right?
